I admitt , I do not see this series as an adaptation of novel because, reading it, for me it remains clear than its transformation in a series remains only utopia. This episode, for its cheesy parts , holes and not the best dialogue, temptation to explain obvious things is a proof.

So, I saw it as a continuation of the story offered by book. Especially for the feeling than, being a Netflix, the Procust bed works and the target is the audience who do not read the gem of Anthony Doerr.

The first good point is the presence of Mark Rufallo in the skin of Daniel. The small desepointment - the hair of Werner, the ignore of Evreaux episode and the visit of young Pfennig to Siedler. And the initial beating.

The gift, no doubts, Aria Mia Loberti fascinating as Marie - Laure and the admirable try to offer a decent , nuanced portrait of Werner by young Louis Hofman. . Sure, it could be better , oftem I was tempteted to be ironic about this episode but it is pure and cruel unfair to ignore the impressive effort , crowned by not so awful result of reconstruction of Paris of refugees and Saint - Malo under bombs. And , sure, the models.

A Continuation of Things from Episode One

I'm not dissing this episode, but unfortunately it is heavy on what horrors the Nazis were. This portrayal is admirable, but we've seen it so many times. The reckless disregard for human life, the racism and anti-semitism, the power over their own people. It says to us, "Take a normal person and give him power over others, and he will resort to the basest instincts and use them to subjugate." This simple blind girl and her radio show is the focus of all kinds of oppression. Granted, her biggest adversary has a much less political agenda: he wants that giant diamond and believes she has it. The scenes with the young German boy as he is punished fiercely because he has talents relating to radios are ugly--as he gets pushed into the Hitler youth. He plays the game, but it doesn't matter. But, ultimately, we only learn the brutality of the Third Reich continues to be the benchmark for everything that is horrible.

The address of the house in which Marie-Laure hides in the series, 4 Rue de Vauborel, exist in real life in Saint-Malo, France. Since the current house is built after world war 2 (for obvious reasons) it does not look at all like in the movie. However, the house seen in the movie exists in Villefranche de Rouergue, where most of the exterior scenes where filmed. The ground floor and first two floors are real, the attic from where Marie-Laure broadcasts isn't.

Originally, the SD officer is shown to wear the epaulets of an Obersturmbannfuhrer (Lt Col) then later a Hauptsturmfuhrer (Captain).
