No wonder it wasn't released here (Kolkata)
I watched this movie on 24th Sept 2025.
Experience: Since it didn't even get released in West Bengal, I had to download and watch it on my phone. Obviously, no theatre experience to share. And honestly, while watching, there were several brutal scenes that I ended up skipping.
Movie: No wonder it wasn't released here. With the recent riots, releasing this movie could have triggered things again. But let me be clear - calling this film "propaganda" would be completely wrong. These incidents really did happen in the past, and we need to remember what the consequences were.
The movie is very straightforward - it shows the riots that took place in Kolkata, how mass murders started, and even how Pakistan once demanded Kolkata's land. It's brutal and not for everyone, especially those who don't want to accept the past or the harsh realities.
Today, even if peace exists (even if just for show), it wasn't always like that.
Acting: Performances by Saurav Das, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, and Simratt Kaur really stand out. As for the senior actors, I don't even need to comment - they're already top-notch.
Final Take: This is a movie you need guts to watch. It has blood, violence, r*pe, beheadings - very brutal and sensitive content. So please, don't watch it with kids. It's definitely a one-time watch, and purely as a film, I'd give it 7/10.

HISTORY IS BRUTAL, always.
The Bengal Files is a brutal yet powerful retelling of real history. The actors delivered outstanding performances, truly embodying the characters from the independence era. It gave me a deeper understanding of Kolkata's rich heritage, but also left me saddened by the realization that India never truly attained independence.
Probably the Best film of 2025
The Bengal Files is a soul shattering movie, this isn't just a movie, it's the truth and a sad one, It shows you what really happened and it doesn't hold back
The acting is unbelievable (from almost every actor), you will feel every bit of pain and anger, It's a tough watch, but it's very important, Only negative thing is it's length but it still engages you till the end.

Go and watch
This is a must-watch movie. Those who don't know about Direct Action Day and I guess many people don't, will get to know about it through this film. The performances by the actors were commendable, the songs were truly impressive, and I personally found the second half of the film more engaging. Vivek Agnihotri showed as much as he could in the movie, who knows, in real life it might have been even worse. I agree that some scenes were exaggerated, but at the end of the day, it is a movie. Vivek Agnihotri is a brilliant director, and I think he could have made this movie even better in terms of filmmaking aspects like screenplay and cinematography,. And I don't understand why this movie is banned in West Bengal, since it doesn't show anything negative that could incite riots or create a political issue there.
Hard Hitting
It takes a lot of research.and guys to bring out the real history. Thanks sir for disclosing the unspoken and hidden truth .
The bengal govt has banned this movie cause they want to suppress the voices , and the song called communists are silent .
From The great calcutta killing to Noakhali massacre, from Shahjahan Sheikh of Sandeshkhali to Murshidabad, how you have connected all the points , is so impressive.
Just one criticism sir , we the people of Bengal don't speak Hindi like that "poschima bongal" , I think we have a decent hindi accent. So please don't stereotype it . And what you have shown for the Noakhali chapter , in reality the things were more horrible.
The lighthouse of India is declining, and no one is saying a word . But I am not among of those no one . Jai Hind . Vande Mataram. Bengal will rise again .
