Rani has huge doleful expressive eyes. She breathes life , respect and honor into her role of a courtesan. Starting as a young girl who is very much aware of her circumstances she meets Shahid in a shayari evening . Surprised at her knowledge and skill at poetry when women were hardly given a voice , he starts pursuing her. Predictably his family refuses to give their consent to their marriage . He ends up marrying another girl of his own status thanx to his father's manipulations.
Shahid looks innocent and raw . It was one of his early movies . He shows a lot of promise. The ending is sad . She accepts her situation and retires from dancing and dies before Shahid could come back to her .
