While the television series "Firefly" was airing on The Science Channel, in certain areas, a commercial for "Browncoats: Redemption" aired during commercial breaks, making it the first fan-film to air a commercial during the original material which it was based on.
The project officially ended on Labor Day weekend, 2011, a year after the film's release. By this time it had raised over $105,000 (not including production cost coverage) to be distributed evenly among its five choice charities.
Kevin Troy's character, 'Lux Lucre,' is named after the screen name of devoted Browncoat Kerry Pearson, who died of complications from diabetes shortly before the release of Serenity (2005). (During the Fisher's Pub scene, the bartender mentions to Lux his fight with "Kerry 'Nice Guy' Pearson" some years prior.)
Shot in 10 Days.
