Actress Cherami Leigh, who plays Goth teen Anne Wells, has voiced over 50 Anime characters. In fact, the filming schedule had to be reworked to allow her to attend a Megacon panel, introducing a new Anime series. She also was a Radio Disney DJ starting at 8 yrs old.
On the First Day of Spring in March while shooting the burning of the nativity, North Texas experienced an unusual snowstorm dumping 11 inches. Filming continued through difficult conditions while the blowing snow added to the distinctive look of the final film.
The original BTFS screenplay listed Venus, Texas as the story's small town. However, Leonard, TX was found to be the perfect location with a historic town square. The city was very accommodating to the crew. Leonard not only served as the location for three weeks but is the city mentioned in both the BTFS novel and final film. A final week was spent shooting in and around Dallas.
Cherami Leigh did not use real nicotine cigarettes during filming. She used herbal, healthier options, since she works with her voice in Anime and Video Games.
Madison Burge (Becky on Friday Night Lights), India Eisley (Secret Life of the American Teenager and daughter of Olivia Hussey) and Gia Mantegna (13 Going on 30 and daughter of Joe Mantegna) all auditioned for the role of Anne Wells. The role went to Texas actor, Cherami Leigh.
