10 Underrated Romance Anime That Deserve Another Season
Image
Often, romance anime only last for one season. There's only a handful of romance anime, like From Me To You and Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, that have gotten more seasons. Other beloved romance anime are stuck in season one limbo and deserve another season to adapt their immersive story. Yona of the Dawn is a prime example of a romance anime that wholly deserves another season.

Giving romance anime another season gives the series the proper development it deserves. Sometimes, since many romance anime are locked to one season, their story ends up feeling rushed. Fortunately, some romance anime have had a resurgence, such as From Me To You, getting a third season after a decade. As fans of anime head deeper into the 2020s, the future of romance anime is looking more promising.

New Shojo Anime Just as Good as the Classics
Image
Shojo anime had a spike in popularity in the 2000s with the release of classic series such as Maid Sama!, Ouran High School Host Club, and the original Fruits Basket. In recent years, however, there has been a noticeable lack of shojo in the anime landscape. With almost all of the currently popular anime hits being shonen series, it can be hard to find the little shojo out there or know if it's worth watching.

Despite this, new shojo series are still being released, albeit at a relatively slow pace in comparison. Many of these series draw from the legacy of their predecessors, giving audiences the same feelings that shojo classics of the past evoked. As old favorites get picked up by studios once again to continue their stories and new series shake up the formula in interesting ways, there is hope for a resurgence in the shojo genre in the modern day.

‘Beatles ’64’ Review: Disney+’s Illuminating Fab Four Doc Captures the Crucible Moment of the Band’s First U.S. Visit
Image
A clip in Beatles ’64 features Canadian media theorist Marshall McLuhan making a salient observation: “The chances of your understanding anything going on in your own time are very small, except through the means provided by artists. Artists are people who enjoy living in the present.” That perspective is both supported and disproven by the film’s candid access to John, Paul, George and Ringo — surnames not required — on the cusp of global superstardom during their first visit to America in 1964.

The band members are by no means oblivious to the seismic momentum of Beatlemania, becoming virtual prisoners at New York’s Plaza Hotel as it’s surrounded by a mob of screaming fans. And yet they remain at that time disarmingly innocent, almost incredulous — fundamentally still four goofy working-class lads from Liverpool with mop-top haircuts who appear to view the hysteria mostly as a lark. Only in interviews years...

Netflix’s ‘From Me To You’ Anime Seasons 1-2 Recap And Ending Explained
Image
Netflix’s animated series, From Me to You, is a beautiful high school drama that will surely make you nostalgic of all those high school crushes, first loves, and heartbreaks. I personally related to the journey of all these lead characters portrayed in the anime series. There was something unexplainable about their innocence and how they tried to come out of their shells to become a better person. Nevertheless, we will be talking about those complex feelings in our recap of the first two seasons, so without further ado, let’s dive straight into it.

Chuck Chuck Baby
Image
Working class British dramas historically — and still — often fall into a box-ticking exercise of certain tropes and clichés. Musicals have certainly helped shift certain portrayals and representations, with stage adaptations of Billy Elliot, The Full Monty, Kinky Boots and, most recently, West End production Standing At The Sky’s Edge often elevating underrepresented perspectives and voices. While writer/director Janis Pugh’s North Wales-set jukebox musical Chuck Chuck Baby can, at times, fall into those tropes, it proves a welcome female-led addition to the canon.

Despite the oppressive nature, there’s a moving vulnerability juxtaposed with endearing humour at the heart of the central performances.

With a mix of gritty, melodramatic social realism, fairy tale and musical whimsy, Chuck Chuck Baby can, at times, be quite tonally jarring. But the heartfelt and moving performances from Louise Brealey and Annabel Scholey elevate the plucky proceedings, with a sweet and affecting sapphic...

Prepare For Those Beatles Movies With A Long-Forgotten (But Really Good) Box Office Failure
Image
Pop music phenoms come and go, fall in and out of favor and sometimes fade into total obscurity. Very few remain relevant a decade removed from their initial success, and you can count on maybe two hands the number of artists who can knock out a new song or reissue and top the Billboard charts 50-plus years after their debut.

And then there's The Beatles.

From the moment they scored their first number one hit in the U.K. with 1963's "From Me to You," The Beatles drew on their multitude of musical influences — blues, country, rockabilly, and the sui generis soul sounds pulsating out of Motown — to create perfectly constructed, infectiously catchy singles that earwormed their way into the fabric of your being. Within three years of breaking big in the U.S., they released the pioneering folk-rock LP "Rubber Soul," flirted with psychedelia and raga on the expansive "Revolver,...

The Beatles Break Three Records To Make Music History With “Last Ever Song”
Demi Moore, Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, Melanie Griffith, Gaby Hoffmann, Rita Wilson, Rosie O'Donnell, and Ashleigh Aston Moore in Now and Then (1995)
The Beatles have made music history again with their new single Now and Then.

The song has topped the charts in the UK, making the band the act with the longest ever gap between their first and last number ones.

Sixty years after their song From Me to You sat at number one, Now and Then has made it to the same position. Sir Paul McCartney told the BBC: “It’s blown my socks off!”

And the BBC reports that the tune is also this century’s fastest-selling single on vinyl. And, with McCartney, 82, and drummer Ringo Starr, 83, they are also the oldest band to hit the top spot.

The song emerged from a demo written by John Lennon back in 1978, two years before his murder in New York. His widow Yoko Ono later gave the tape to McCartney, but audio technology wasn’t adequate then to separate Lennon...

Fan-Favorite Contemporary Romance Anime
Image
True love doesn't just belong in the realm of epic high fantasy or in a long-gone era. Romance in the modern era is anything but boring. A random meet-cute in a coffee shop can feel just as magical as the romance between a princess and her knight.

Contemporary romances may or may not have speculative elements, like magical realism or alternate history timelines, but they are thoroughly situated in the modern world. These romances may take place in school or the workplace, and they often explore themes that are relatable to many, like coming-of-age, grief, and finding one's place in the world.

The Kimi Ni Todoke Anime Is Better Than Netflix’s From Me to You
Image
Kimi ni Todoke is one of the best high school romance anime of all time, premiering in 2009 and becoming an instant hit with the fans of the genre. Even with the overwhelming saturation of the high school rom-com genre, Kimi ni Todoke has surprisingly withstood the test of time. It's still worthy of a binge-watch and consistently shows up on recommendation lists. Unfortunately, fans were denied a second season despite the show being an undeniable success.

Now the classic series is finally being revived after more than a decade -- this time as a live-action drama. Kimi ni Todoke is the latest anime title to join Netflix's live-action adaptation streak and recently landed on the streaming platform under the title From Me to You. Naturally, fans can't help but compare the anime to the Netflix series, but the burning question remains: does the new version successfully recreate the magic of the original?...

Netflix Top 10 (Week of March 27): ‘Murder Mystery 2’ takes over, as ‘Night Agent’ continues to find viewers
Image
Netflix has released its Top 10 for the week of March 27, and it was little to no surprise that Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston‘s comedy sequel “Murder Mystery 2” entered the English language films chart in first place. After all, the original 2019 movie was such a huge hit for Netflix.

The action-comedy sequel entered the charts with 64.4 million hours viewed, the second-biggest launch for a comedy film with 42 million views, appearing in the Top 10 in 91 countries with it being the #1 movie in more than 60 of those countries.

Right behind it was the original “Murder Mystery” with 24.7 million hours viewed globally, and the previous #1 movie “Luther: The Fallen Sun” with 12.7 million viewing hours. The lack of strong family films in theaters allowed four animated films to get into the Top 10 with Netflix’s “The Magician’s Elephant” leading the pack with 6.3 million viewing hours.

‘From Me To You’ (2023) Recap & Ending, Explained: Does Sawako Leave Her Small Town For Her Big Dreams?
Image
The manga adaptation is back yet again, this time in the form of a live-action drama with upcoming stars and adorable chemistry. “From Me To You,” tells a story of kindness in a soft, easy-to-watch lighthearted drama with a lot of misunderstandings, love, and cuteness. Amongst all the fact paced content of today, sometimes something cozy is needed as a boost of energy.

Spoilers Ahead

Season 1 Recap: What Happens In The Show?

“From Me To You” or “Kimi ni Todoke” follows Sawako, a freshman in high school who is misjudged by her peers as a scary and gloomy girl who wants no friends. She’s mislabeled as Sadako, the ghost of the popular Japanese horror franchise “The Ring,” because of her gloomy appearance. Sawako, though, is a very kindhearted girl who wants to help her classmates and takes on all the odd jobs that the teacher asks for because she...

‘From Me To You’ (2023) Review: High School Love Like Fresh Cherry Blossoms In The Spring
Image
With the oversaturated world of teen coming-of-age content on Netflix, it is easy to fall into a rabbit hole of overly sexualized teen shows that just glamorize the tricky parts of being a teen. Compared to the western teen world, the east prefers to teach life lessons through cute little romance shows inspired by popular anime or manga. Japan is not new to high school dramas, and “From Me to You” rekindles fond memories of school rather than bringing anything new to the screen. As someone who hasn’t watched the anime, I can absolutely understand why it would’ve been translated into a live-action show for high school students in Japan. The show subtly tackles issues such as school bullying, feeling like you’ve brought a knife in a gunfight, high-school exams, the fear of growing up, and many such struggles of a school student without ever coming across as a life lesson.

Netflix's Anime Deal With Nippon TV Brings 13 Beloved Anime Titles To Service, Including Berserk, Monster
Image
Folks! It is finally happening. One of the best anime shows ever made, as well as the one good adaptation of one of the greatest manga of all time, is finally coming to streaming.

At a time when availability is becoming an important issue in media as big corporations are erasing entire titles from existence with the push of a button, concepts like piracy as historical preservation are being discussed in a new light, even by creators. If there is literally no legal way to watch a show, should you pirate it? Does it hurt a show when, after years of unavailability and bootlegging, it finally becomes available? "Neon Genesis Evangelion" was a hit on Netflix when it finally became available to stream and got everyone talking about it for the first time in years.

Thankfully, we don't have to debate this any longer, at least not when it comes...

Paul McCartney was playing air guitar when he showed up at New York’s Grand Central Terminal Friday night around 7:40 p.m. His livestreamed YouTube concert was starting in just a few minutes, but first he wanted to give us in the audience a few instructions. He’d start the broadcast alone on camera, with the crowd in complete silence. “Then I’ll just move a little more over this way and sing, ‘Hey Jude…'” he continued. “And you’ll sing, ‘Don’t make it bad…’ And that’s your big moment!

Full Trailer for the Live-Action Version of The Tiger Mask Anime
Here's the full trailer for the live-action adaptation of the 1960s anime and manga classic, Tiger Mask. The character was created by Ikki Kajiwara, and the story centers on a wrestling hero who fights evil to protect the children of an orphanage.

The film stars Eiji Wentz (Brave Story) as the hero, Natsuna Watanabe (Gantz, Kimi ni Todoke) as the heroine, Ruriko and Show Aikawa (Zebraman) as Mister X. Here's a little more information on the film and its story, thanks to Anime News Network:

"Tiger Mask" is the alter ego of the character Naoto Date, a pro wrestler who goes against an evil wrestling organization and fights for children in an orphanage. In the new setup for the film, Date dons a special suit and "transforms" into Tiger Mask with enhanced mobility and muscle strength. His mask has also been redesigned with a nod to American comic action heroes such as Spider-Man and Batman.

Teaser Trailer For Live-Action Tiger Mask
The film stars Eiji Wentz (Brave Story) as the titular hero, Natsuna Watanabe (Gantz, Kimi ni Todoke) as the heroine, Ruriko and Show Aikawa (Zebraman) as Mister X. This new interpretation focuses on lead hero Naota Date, who fights in opposition to an evil wrestling organization and to save a children's orphanage. Date was actually at one time a member of the evil organization, Tora no Ana, before setting down the path to become a hero. The original manga ran from 1968 to 1971 in such publications as Weekly Shōnen Magazine while the anime aired in 1969. Many real-life Japanese wrestlers have donned the 'Tiger Mask' persona over the years. The manga recently became popular again in Japan after a mysterious donation was made a few years back to a children's organization which sparked others to contribute in what became known as "The Tiger Mask" movement.
