Martial arts sequences in films are often impressive, but they take a lot of work behind the scenes, with a few actors putting in the work to learn martial arts to pull off such scenes. Many of the iconic martial arts films and scenes that come to mind are carried out by martial arts legends like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, but these actors had already trained in martial arts years before they got their start in films.
Other actors such as Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, and Michelle Yeoh learned martial arts in preparation for a particular project, with only a few continuing to be known for their other martial arts films after the fact. The commitment to the physicality that comes with a martial arts role isn't always necessary. Still, it adds an appreciated layer to the actor's performance, improving the overall believability of the film's fight scenes.

Clicking on Netflix’s action subgenre, one of the first films that always comes up is Here Comes the Boom, starring Kevin James as a biology teacher turned Mma fighter. While James is highly adept in the art of fart jokes, it’s almost criminal that Timo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes for Us doesn’t appear in first […]

Alongside Kevin James, the cast of the 2011 comedy, Zookeeper, sees many high-profile celebrities help make it a memorable fantasy movie as they voice several of its anthropomorphic animals. James stars as the titular hero, who is considering a career switch as he feels thats the only way he can improve his chances at finding love. The news comes as a shock to his animal friends, and the zoo creatures try and set him up with someone else to convince him to stay. Zookeeper didnt fare well with most critics but is still worth a watch for family-friendly comedy fans.
What is worth noting about the Zookeeper cast is the stellar voice cast behind the animals and the actual animals themselves. The movie features some iconic animal performers, like Crystal the Monkey who provides the physical likeness for the tufted capuchin Donald, and the late Bart the Bear 2 who plays the grizzly bear Jerome.

Mma has been steadily catching up to boxing in terms of combat sport films. While there are plenty of action films that utilize the practice, boxing has been able to capitalize on more character dramas, especially since Rocky hit the scene (no pun intended). While there have been movies like Warrior and Bruised that have showcased mixed martial arts in dramatic films, the popular UFC brand has been geared more towards popcorn movies like Here Comes the Boom and the upcoming Road House remake. The producers of Hereditary are now set to make a UFC-based drama where two Mma fighters, who fight for their own reasons, find themselves on a collision course.
Variety reports that Lupita Nyong’o and Chloe Grace Moretz will star in Strawweight as UFC fighters. The synopsis is said to “follow the journeys of two fighters who find themselves competing against each other in the Octagon. One...

Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Netflix's The Out-Laws!Adam Sandler’s newest movie on Netflix, The Out-Laws, revived the actor’s cameo rule after two movies went without it. This tradition is most prevalent in films from Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison, and has created a fun throughline in several of his films. However, one unexpected element of this tradition is that it makes films without it seem more notable, if only because they break Sandler’s trend. That being said, it’s fun to see this tradition brought back in The Out-Laws, and hopefully signals similar nods in future Happy Madison films set to come out this year.
Sandler’s most recent Happy Madison film, The Out-Laws, features a star-studded cast that tells the story of Owen (Adam DeVine) and Parker (Nina Dobrev), a pair of soon-to-be newlyweds. However, matters are complicated when Parker’s estranged...

But where does the cartoon excitement comes in? Well, that’s because season 11 of Matt Groening’s beloved Futurama premieres on July 24. Fry, Leela, the Professor, and Bender will all return for a direct continuation of...

Veteran character actor Nicholas Turturro played the memorable role of Brucie in 2005's The Longest Yard, but what has he been up to since? The Adam Sandler sports comedy, a remake of the classic Burt Reynolds film of the same name, tells the story of a professional quarterback who creates a prison football team after a DUI lands him behind bars. Though the film was generally lambasted by critics, it quickly became a fan favorite due in large part to the charisma of Sandler and its memorable ensemble. One member of the supporting cast, Nicholas Turturro, stole the show.

Salma Hayek Pinault Was Told She Was Too 'Sexy' For Comedy Until Adam Sandler's Grown Ups Came Along
As a producer, Adam Sandler has always managed to attract an impressive litany of talent. Although the films released through Sandler's studio, Happy Madison, regularly get terrible reviews, they tend to be very lucrative and high-profile actors keep coming back for more work. This may be because, as the rumor mill has it, Sandler is a relentlessly decent and kind human being that others love to work with. As such, Al Pacino can be seen in "Jack and Jill," Susan Sarandon appeared in "That's My Boy," and the likes of Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Aniston, and Winona Ryder have all played Sandler's wife or love interest in his movies.
In Dennis Dugan's 2010 film "Grown Ups," Salma Hayek Pinault plays Roxanne, a successful fashion designer, and the wife of a talent agent named Lenny (Sandler). "Grown Ups" is about how Lenny is still very close with the circle of...

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

“Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (Sony/$19.99) hits home platforms this week after its eighth weekend exclusively in theaters. It will very likely lead charts in upcoming weeks, with, among top titles still to come, Marvel’s “The Eternals” not announced and not likely to be available for home viewing before Christmas.
Meanwhile, two other top fall releases, both at $19.99, share the top position at the moment. “No Time to Die” (United Artists) and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (Disney) both took #1 spots among the three charts below. Both were made available last week, with initially the Bond title atop across the board.
That makes sense for “No Time to Die,” especially because of its early (31-day) PVOD release and older, still theater-averse audience. But the strong showing of “Shang-Chi” stands out as a sign of strange times where decision makers look for guidance of what strategies to pursue.

Amazon Prime Video’s epic The Lord of the Rings series won’t arrive until 2022. Thankfully, with its list of new releases for November 2021, Amazon has a pretty major fantasy adaptation to hold us over.
The Wheel of Time is set to premiere on Nov. 19 and will bring Robert Jordan’s massive fantasy universe to life. Rosamund Pike stars as Moiraine, a powerful magic-user who guides five young people on a perilous journey around the world. One of them just might be the reincarnation of the Dragon, a powerful entity who could save the world…or destroy it.

Adam Sandler might be Netflix’s biggest drawing card, with his star vehicles always guaranteed to pull in huge numbers and crack the Top 10 most-watched list whether they’re brand new or two decades old, but the streaming service signed a deal with Happy Madison Productions and not the actor himself, meaning Sandler also gets to put his producing hat on and give some of his buddies their share of the spotlight.
This is hardly a new development, though, and ever since Happy Madison was founded in 1999, the company has churned out a series of movies featuring the Big Daddy star’s regular troupe of frequent collaborators. That includes the Paul Blart duology and Here Comes the Boom with Kevin James, Rob Schneider’s Deuce Bigalow, The Animal and The Hot Chick, and, of course, one of the worst comedies in the history of cinema, otherwise known as Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star.

Wherever Adam Sandler goes, Kevin James can usually be found following close behind, with the duo becoming virtually inseparable since the latter made his feature film debut in the pivotal role of Factory Worker in 2004’s 50 First Dates. Since then, the pair have co-starred in a further ten movies from I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry to Hubie Halloween, while James has headlined Happy Madison vehicles Zookeper and Here Comes the Boom.
After playing a series of supporting parts, it was inevitably Sandler and Happy Madison that elevated the former King of Queens star to leading man status for the first time when he portrayed the title character in 2009’s Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Despite receiving reviews that could be described as tepid at best, the comedy was a massive hit at the box office and earned over $180 million on a budget of just $26 million, proving that there...

Actor and comedian Kevin James, known for one of my favorite series, King of Queens, as well as comedies like Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Grown Ups, and Here Comes the Boom, is now set to star in a new comedy series for Netflix called The Crew. The series will be a multi-cam comedy set in a Nascar garage, where James will star as the crew chief. When the owner of the garage retires and leaves the ownership to his daughter, “James finds himself at odds with the tech-reliant millennials she starts bringing in to modernize the team.”
The series is being written by Jeff Lowell and will come on the heels of the series The Ranch and Fuller House, which are both coming to an end after their upcoming final seasons at Netflix.

Kevin James is set to star in and executive produce a multi-camera comedy that has been ordered to series at Netflix, Variety has learned.
Titled “The Crew,” the series is set in a Nascar garage. James will play the crew chief. When the owner steps down and passes the team off to his daughter, James finds himself at odds with the tech reliant millennials she starts bringing in to modernize the team.
Jeff Lowell is the writer and executive producer on “The Crew” in addition to serving as showrunner. Jeff Sussman and Todd Gardner will also executive produce, with Matt Summers and Tim Clark executive producing for Nascar.
James is a multi-cam veteran, previously starring in the hit CBS sitcom “King of Queens” from 1998-2007. Most recently, he returned to CBS for the multi-cam “Kevin Can Wait,” in which he reunited with his “King of Queens” co-star Leah Remini. James...

When you aren’t carrying the weight of a superhero tentpole franchise on your shoulders, it turns out you can get a whole lot more done. Following the Chris Evans-led Gifted in April, Marc Webb‘s second film of 2017 will be arriving just a few months after in August with The Only Living Boy in New York. Ahead of the release Amazon Studios have now unveiled the first trailer.
Scripted by Allan Loeb (who is on some sort of unfortunate streak with The Space Between Us, Collateral Beauty, So Undercover, Here Comes the Boom, Rock of Ages, and, well, the list goes on…), hopefully this one is an uptick for the writer, even if the trailer sells a fairly chintzy feel-good dramedy — one that seems to be skipping a festival debut. Starring Kate Beckinsale, Pierce Brosnan, Kiersey Clemons, Cynthia Nixon, Callum Turner, and Jeff Bridges, check out the trailer below.

With Adam Sandler enjoying great success with his string of Netflix exclusive movies (god only knows how though), it was only a matter of time till so good buddy Kevin James got in on the action, and now we have the first trailer for True Memoirs of an International Assassin, an action comedy with a plot so old school i could have swore I saw this in the 80’s. James plays a mild manner author who is mistaken for a master assassin when his fictional novel about a globe trotting killer-for-hire is published as a true story. When the book is huge success, he is kidnapped and forced into a real life assassination plot. I really try to like Kevin James, and sometime he makes it incredibly easy with the likes of King of Queens and Here Comes the Boom. But other times, he stars in Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

Remember Here Comes The Boom, the movie that inexplicably starred Kevin James as an aspiring Mma fighter? As poorly as that went, his career as a hitman in True Memoirs Of An International Assassin seems like it’s going to go even worse—although, to True Memoirs’ credit, Kevin James getting involved in something that is significantly beyond is abilities is sort of the point this time. As seen in this trailer, the movie stars James as a writer whose spy thriller gets released as non-fiction to help boost sales, leading people to believe that he’s actually a retired assassin. As anyone who has seen Tropic Thunder (or any other movie ever) can probably guess, that eventually leads to him getting kidnapped and swept up in an actual international assassin plot, complete with foreign bad guys, a mysterious spy woman, and Rob Riggle as an amped-up CIA bro.

Netflix has released the first trailer for True Memoirs of an International Assassin, the latest film starring Kevin James. Adam Sandler got a globe-spanning mistaken-identity movie on the streaming service earlier this year, so it's only fair if James gets one too.
James plays Sam Larson, a mild-mannered would-be author who gets mistaken for a killer-for-hire when his fictional novel about an international assassin is published as a true story. When the book is a huge success, he is suddenly kidnapped, taken out of the country, and forced into an assassination plot.
I rolled my eyes a lot during this trailer, but I will admit that this looks way better than Paul Blart, Zookeeper, Here Comes the Boom, or a lot of the other crap that James has been pumping out over the past few years. What do you think? Will you be checking this out? True Memoirs of an...

Kevin James is a simple entertainer. His blue collar-friendly brand is designed to appeal to undemanding middle-aged schlubs, or at the very least, easy-to-please hard-working people who just want to kick their feet back, gulp down a couple beers and enjoy themselves for a few hours. The kind of people who don’t expect more than the familiar pleasures they’ve been given before. And there’s nothing particularly wrong with that either. James’ style might be boring and repetitive to some of us (well, maybe most of us), but he’s a smart businessman. He knows what his fans expect from him, and he tries to meet their modest demands. That logic drives Kevin Can Wait, James’ return to CBS and broadcast television.

Recent tabloids suggest things are not going swimmingly for Will Smith at home, so constant work may benefit the former Fresh Prince's good spirits. He's got Concussion coming this Christmas, Suicide Squad still in production and now, in just a matter of months, he's got the lead role in Collateral Beauty, the highly buzzed-about Me & Earl & the Dying Girl follow-up for director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, to keep his mind preoccupied at the moment. Smith takes the role from fellow superhero star Hugh Jackman, who departed last month from the role he received in June due to his final Wolverine commitments in James Mangold's 2017 sequel. Rumors persisted on Johnny Depp taking the turn, as part of his dramatic comeback expected to kickstart with this fall's Black Mass and, while the filmmakers did court the actor at some point in time, he either turned it down or Smith edged him out. Whatever is in the script for "Collateral Beauty" penned by Allan Loeb ("The Dilemma," "Just Go With It," "Rock Of Ages," and "Here Comes The Boom"), it has attracted some big attention. Hugh Jackman was attached for a spell before he dropped out when his scheduling couldn't work, and then Johnny Depp was taking a peek for a moment. Now a big name has finally signed up to replace Jackman and star opposite Rooney Mara in the film. The usually quite picky Will Smith is putting his name down for the flick, reports Deadline. "Me And Earl And The Dying Girl" director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon will helm the tale that follows a New York City ad executive who slips into depression following a tragedy and embarks on an unconventional method to get out of his funk. Although Hugh Jackman will soon say goodbye to Wolverine with X-Men: Apocalypse and James Mangold's upcoming Wolverine sequel, in the process of putting away the claws the actor has to give away some other roles in the meantime. That would include the lead role in Alfonso Gomez-Rejon's much talked-about Me & Earl & the Dying Girl follow-up Collateral Beauty, also starring Rooney Mara. It was only last month when the Aussie actor signed onto the project, but time commitments apparently won't let Jackman play the role when production begins this fall. Producers don't seem too discouraged, though, for they've taken their efforts towards bagging another big-name star: Johnny Depp. Even if the Mortdecai's star seems to be fading these days, Depp does have the buzzed Black Mass coming up, in addition to another Pirates of the Caribbean sequel set for release in two years time. So don't rule out a comeback,...
