First couple episodes are terrible but it gets much better!

Hakuoki is a captivating visual novel that transports players to the tumultuous era of the late Edo period in Japan. As you delve into this narrative-rich experience, you are introduced to the protagonist, Chizuru Yukimura, who embarks on a journey to find her missing father. Her quest leads her to encounter the Shinsengumi, a group of skilled samurai with their own secrets and struggles.

Each member of the Shinsengumi is intricately portrayed, with their own unique personalities and backstories that unfold as the plot progresses. The game masterfully weaves historical events with supernatural elements, as the samurai are revealed to be linked to mysterious demonic powers.

Players must navigate through a series of choices that not only affect Chizuru's fate but also the destiny of the Shinsengumi. The beautifully illustrated artwork and the emotive musical score enhance the immersive experience, making every moment feel poignant and significant.

Whether you're drawn to the historical intrigue, the romantic possibilities, or the supernatural twists, Hakuoki offers a richly layered story that captivates the heart and mind, leaving a lasting impression on all who venture into its world.

    An entertaining piece of "history".

Personally, I have been a big fan of Japanese history and culture since I was a kid. And this has tons of history from the end of the shogunate era, focusing on the Shinsengumi.

This is a really fun and entertaining show that will not disappoint fans of samurai anime. It of course is an anime, so even though it has a lot of history, not everything follows that same path. I honestly couldn't stop watching this once I started it, and can't wait for the newest episodes from season 2 to be subbed.

In short, I hope you take my advice and check this out, it won't disappoint!

Great to learn japanese history even if just a bit

Very good reverse harem anime example. I give to ten points this series because its accually a series. Ovas movies more ovas more specials. Its very hard to consume. Also Contains so much efford and very good story and also I found my the dream anime boy in this show -So far- There is the girl -chizuru- and many cute boys around her:) fun to watched very much. But I should point that the attention, love etc to her, Reflected realistically. There is no so much open feelings. It is a history show afterall but also contains fantastic elemants. Anyways I miss S. H already. He is so something.

    Sadness earned

A terribly sad show because it manages to make one care deeply about the characters. The (male) main characters were well developed and their relationships with others are a joy to watch.
