Andy Kaufman's final television appearance.
Chevy Chase was the original host. At the taping (at KTLA) he came out dressed as a punk and for into an altercation with a genuine punk audience member. He left and the taping went on without him. Later Andy Kaufman was shot doing host inserts.
Despite a live audience, most of the laughs come from laugh tracks.
Chevy Chase was the original host, which made sense because his former SNL cohorts Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray are part of the show. In fact, Dan Aykroyd opens the show, and sporadically returns, nervously complaining about how "animals running the show" while the camera shows people dressed as horses at the controls.
This was a music video show. Andy Kaufman hosts, basically setting up music videos by bands like ZZ Top, Randy Newman and Cyndi Lapuer. Meanwhile, Rodney Dangerfield pretends to be calling Andy from a hotel suite to get his video, Rappin' Rodney, to play, which takes most of the show to happen. When it does, Andy calls Rodney back, but Rodney says he missed the video, having gone to the bathroom.
