Umakoti Wethu

Essentially this story is met with a pretty unexpected twist. From the opening scene, it gives us a look into the lives of a newly wedded couple and challenges found therein. The writers play around with the complexities of traditional masculinity and submissive femininity in a contemporary world. Khathu, a young wife, is met with social expectations which subsequently shape who she is. I really love how the writers highlighted this since it is a societal issue which is often overlooked. Thereafter, the female main characters' identities are tied to societal expectations. Yet, instead of letting this narrative play on the writers challenged it, giving us a rather unexpected plot twist.

In summary, I really loved this story and the actors really brought the characters to life. We need more stories like this one, stories that challenge the status quo.
