A rather fun if slightly flawed take on the game

Taken to a remote island, a random group of people are kidnapped and forced into playing a game of Werewolf with each other where the stakes are to figure out who's the murderous werewolf in the game or get killed off by the creature while dealing with the tyrannical rules of the game.

Overall, this was a pretty enjoyable if ultimately flawed feature. The main focus here is decidedly based on the interactions the group has while sitting around the table waiting for the various aspects of the game to play itself out. Using the tactics and strategy of the namesake game as a guide, the numerous instances of everyone sitting in a circle trying to deduce and accuse each other of being the guilty party while the rest of the guards look on in a threatening manner controlling everything they say and do makes for a generally enjoyable time here. The heated conversations and the stress of trying to make sure everything is sorted out is a fun time as the tension mounts, especially once the bodies start dropping and there are fewer villagers the deeper into everything it lasts. Combined with the strong series of stalking scenes showing the werewolf players out stalking the victims in their rooms, this all makes for a rather fun time throughout here. Beyond this part of the film, though, there's not much that works. Part of that is based on the interactions with the group sitting around between rounds in the game where it seems to overlook how the game is played in favor of escaping their incarceration. It makes sense as that is a far more worthwhile feat to overcome, yet there's hardly anything here about trying to figure out who the wolf is as they spend less time discussing the confines of the game to survive as the identity of the werewolf is quite easy to figure out so there's little reason why they couldn't have worked together to figure out what's going on. Even worse, the attempts at humanizing the group make no sense as it just disrupts the tempo and pacing of what's going on so it lasts longer than it should for no real reason. These are just enough to knock this one down overall.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Graphic Violence.

    Brutally boring...

Stumbling upon the 2025 horror movie "Werewolf Game" by random chance, of course I opted to watch it, solely because it was a horror movie that I had not already seen, nor actually ever heard about.

And seeing that the movie had the likes of Tony Todd, Bai Ling, Lydia Hearst and Robert Picardo on the cast list, I must admit that I was a bit surprised. And while the movie's title, cover and synopsis all reeked to Heaven of a low budget questionable movie, then I figured that there might be an off chance that the movie would be watchable, since Tony Todd was in it. But that was not the case. Not even remotely.

Writer Jackie Payne didn't exactly compile a script and storyline that proved particularly entertaining or enjoyable. And as a horror veteran, I have to say that the movie fell rather short of being particularly interesting.

I have to say that a movie based on Dimitry Davidoff's 'Werewolf' card game was quite a stretch in terms of conceiving a plausible or entertaining script and storyline. I mean, it was even weaker than basing a movie on a computer game.

In fact, Tony Todd, Bai Ling, Lydia Hearst and Robert Picardo were the only familiar faces on the cast list. The acting performances in the movie were actually fair.

Do yourself a favor and give "Werewolf Game" a wide berth. It just simply isn't worth spending 96 minutes on watching. Some of us literally suffered through this ordeal of a movie, so you don't have to; you're quite welcome.

My rating of directors Cara Claymore and Jackie Payne's 2025 movie "Werewolf Game" lands on a two out of ten stars.
