16 minutes long yet it feels like it goes forever without any purpose, meaning neither some curiosity to instill on audiences. Artist
Hélio Oiticica and underground filmmaker Neville D'Almeida joined forces to show the New York of the 1970's but they probably got bored with
everything and decided mostly to film themselves or some classic film showing in some film retrospective.
It's hard to get a definition to this
one since there's no sound, the images get confusing after a while and there's no title card to tell us what we are seeing exactly. With the
notable exception of the first five minutes, when we actually get to see New York City, the sights and the street scene, the rest of the film
is pure unexplainable rubbish. Where's the city, after all? It's mostly random images that does not paint any portrait or criticism of the Big Apple. For a better view on the topic, though not visual I recommend Henfil's book "Diário de Um Cucaracha", where he recollects the period of 1973 to 1975 where he lived in the city while trying to establish himself as a cartoonist in America. Those compilation on his coutless letters are hilarious, poignant and very reflective.
As for the "sound", not sure if it's related with the version I've seen or if it's a definite with those super 8images, or if there's some copyright problem with the soundtrack featured. Anyway, it was a real waste of time. Little but still a waste. 3/10.
