One of a series of second feature films based on Edgar Wallace novels, released between 1960 and 1965 in British cinemas. The films were later sold to American TV and screened there as The Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre (1959).
John Thaw puts up a poster of Tom Courtenay starring in Billy Liar at one point, to cover something on a wall. He pushes his hand into Tom's pictured face. No doubt a little in joke. They were great friends at Rada, but Tom had stolen a march on John in getting big parts in Loneliness of the long distance runner, and Billy Liar.
The telephone number sign written on the betting shop is LIBerty 4291, this was the telephone number for Merton Park Studios that made the Edgar Wallace Series.
