I reviewed the first season of "Bloods" - Sky's decidedly average paramedic-based comedy back in May of last year. I didn't think a second season looked particularly liked and yet, here we are - with a 10-episode second season split into two five-episode chunks. Reading that review back, I described the first season as a "tolerable experience" that is exactly the thought of enthusiasm I have after this second run.
With Maleek (Samson Kayo) and Wendy (Jane Horrocks) now firm friends, their attention turns to her feckless son Spencer (Nathan Foad) who is still floating around London. Jo (Lucy Punch) has two problems, firstly that Lawrence (Julian Barratt) has found love in the arms of another but also that the service has sent a counsellor to work with the team and George (Katherine Kelly) and her are at immediate loggerheads. Gary (Adrian Scarborough) and Kareshma (Aasiya Shah) meanwhile meet Tasha (Grace Fincham) a young woman whose severe treatment is causing problems at home.
These five episodes felt much the same as the as six that made up the first season. There is one new element, with Katherine Kelly joining the cast and sparring with Lucy Punch and a wider role for Nathan Foad who appeared in the last episode of the first run. Each episode has its own story, feeding into the larger continuing stories and culminating in a bit of a cliff hanger to tease us to return for the back five.
I don't know what more I can really say other than the show remains a mildly amusing if largely forgettable time.
