Abusive language, double-meaning dialogues, cuss words and even naughty punning remain strictly prohibited areas of activity as far as the censor board is concerned.
The latest to feel the brunt of the censorial scissors is Ranbir Kapoor. Some of his tongue-in-cheek dialogues in Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha have been snipped out.
Apparently a risque reference to the Interpol was cut out of the film. Two sexual innuendos also had to go.
Says a source, "They were fun lines, the way young people speak in a team. At one point a character makes a veiled reference to masturbation which the censor board did not want. There was another naughty reference to men and women who hide their relationship. 'Din mein sister raat mein bistar' (sister during the day, to bed at night)."
At one point Ranbir refers to Deepika as 'Saali'. That too has gone.

Says a source from the Cbfc, "The film came to us very late for certification. In fact Piku which is to be released a week after Gabbar Is Back came to us earlier. Gabbar Is Back had to be certified out of turn to ensure the release didn't get affected." 5 verbal cuts, all mildly abusive terms, have been asked to be beeped out. These include the oft-used word 'saala' which is no longer permissible in films open to kids. Not too long ago, multiple award-winning director Sudhir Mishra even made a film title Yeh Saali Zindagi. Mumbai, Nov 3: He has rarely played a loverboy on the big screen, but versatile actor Irrfan says he loves the romantic genre on screen.
"I love to romance on screen. I did 'Yeh Saali Zindagi' and 'Maqbool'. I love to do romantic roles but I need to get a script which convinces me. I can't fake myself in romance," said Irrfan.
The actor will now be seen in Oscar-winning filmmaker Ang Lee's latest movie "Life Of Pi", an adaptation of an eponymous novel by Yann Martel.
Irrfan says he had to capture Lee's vision to play the elder Pi in the film, instead.

People choose to start with a bang, however Aditi Rao Hydari has chosen to silently climb the ladder and slowly enter the hearts of the viewers. She debuted in a Hindi film (after a Malayalam and a Tamil film) with a supporting role in Delhi 6. To our disappointment we hardly saw her in the film. However, she returned with a bang in Yeh Saali Zindagi and gave us a performance that we can only expect from actresses who are not just 3 films old. After playing one of the leads in Ysz, she returned to a supporting role in Rockstar and thankfully this time she didn’t go as unnoticed. But the real commercial break came with her 2012 release London Paris New York, which although didn’t sound loud and proud at the box office, was a solo film to her credit that got her noticed by the industry and audience alike.

Mumbai, Feb 12: Aditi Rao Hydari, who played an unconventional role in "Yeh Saali Zindagi" and got a bit cozy with Ranbir Kapoor in "Rockstar", feels she will not get typecast.
" 'Yeh Saali Zindagi' and 'Rockstar' are films where I am not playing bold roles. I am not a seductress. I am not seducing a man," she told Ians.
"(In 'Yeh Saali...) I am playing a young girl who is in love with her husband and who is going through trauma because she has a kid and her husband is driving her mad. That's not a bold role. What you do with your partner is not bold. I think audience won't take things that way. So, I don't think I will be typecast,".
