A beautiful young Black woman sits alone at a bar, waiting for her date to show. When he does, he orders for her, brays about his job in finance, objectifies her “caramel” skin, and later, tries to secretly film her – and worse.
On a different night out, a man tells the woman that she could be a model – not runway, but print – and that while he doesn’t usually go for Black girls, she’s the prettiest one there. She witnesses another man, whose mates are bellowing about taking girls “to pound town”, taking upskirt photos in a club. She makes a beeline for them all, and not because her dickhead radar is faulty but because it’s fully operational and when she gets these men into a dark corner… well, that would be telling.

Daniel Kaluuya has had an impressive career in Hollywood, solidifying himself as a leading man, Academy Award winner, and household name. Despite starting out with TV appearances, Kaluuya made his mark in significant projects like "Black Mirror" and "Queen & Slim," showcasing his range and talent. "Get Out" will always be remembered as a standout film in Kaluuya's career, earning him critical acclaim and accolades, including Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.
Despite his breakout Hollywood film only being released in 2017, Daniel Kaluuya has managed to make waves in Hollywood. In just over a decade, the Get Out actor has taken part in several significant projects, both in film and television. He solidified himself as a capable leading man, Academy Award winner, and household name without breaking a sweat.
Still, this isn't to say Kaluuya hasn't paid his dues. The British actor snagged his first credited role in 2006 in the BBC series Shoot the Messenger,...

Where are the Skins cast now? Short answer: absolutely everywhere.
While the show did earn critical acclaim as well as a cult following over the course of its seven series, when this scrappy teen comedy drama launched on E4 in 2007 few could have predicted just how many household names it would spawn.
Among Skins’ impressive alumni are actors who went on to win Oscars and Baftas, play lead roles in hit movies like Slumdog Millionaire and Get Out, not to mention star in hit shows like Game of Thrones and Peaky Blinders.
Let’s take a look at some of the Skins cast’s best roles:
Joe Dempsie – Game of Thrones

Exclusive: The meteoric rise of women’s soccer is continuing. The origins of the women’s game is to be explored in a feature from director Farren Blackburn and Free Turn Entertainment.
Lily and the Rockets is set against the backdrop of World War I and is based on Rebecca Stevens’ novel of the same name. News of the UK-made drama could hardly be more timely, with England’s Lionesses set to take on Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday in Australia.
Blackburn — who was an England youth soccer player and director of The Fades and episodes of Doctor Who, The Innocents and The Defenders — has written the script and will direct. Stevens is a creative consultant.
Stevens’ book, which was published by Chicken House in 2019 and aimed at pre-teens, was inspired by the true-life stories of pioneering women’s soccer players Gerty Naylor and Lily Parr.

Not too long ago, Netflix was touted as a savior of lost shows. Arrested Development, Lucifer, Designated Survivor, Cobra Kai, Manifest, Top Boy… When a TV network canceled a beloved series too soon, fans looked to the streamer as a potential rescue service. Your favorite TV drama mistreated by its original owner? Let Netflix scoop it up off the streets and rehome it.
Sci-fi and fantasy fans, still smarting from the bad old days of Fox cutting off series in their tracks and messing with episode run-orders, hoped that the home of Stranger Things might also be the home of stranger shows that didn’t fit in elsewhere. British Sff viewers, freshly hurt by the loss of The Fades, In the Flesh and Utopia, wondered if things were finally changing. No more canceled-too-soons? Proper endings all round, yes?

“If you want to make a TV drama about opium smokers, sadomasochists and imperial slavery in the 19th century, then write your own,” whines The Daily Mail‘s Peter Hitchens about Steven Knight’s new Great Expectations adaptation, presumably forgetting that in 2017, Knight did exactly that in 8-part Gothic Regency thriller Taboo.
Knight’s previous series starring Tom Hardy, bleeds into his take on Charles Dickens’ class and snobbery novel, which loses the comedy and grimes up the characters with the addition of adult content. Great Expectations returns to Knight’s constant theme of social mobility, moving away from ones roots, and the upper classes being mad, evil bastards, as explored in six series of Peaky Blinders.
Here’s the impressive cast amassed for this six-part drama.

Exclusive: Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes (1917) has linked up with acclaimed His Dark Materials writer Jack Thorne on a new project for the stage that will explore how legendary acting figures Richard Burton and John Gielgud put Hamlet on Broadway in 1964, with a little help from Elizabeth Taylor.
The result of two years of writing and workshops is a Thorne-penned drama called The Motive and the Cue, which Mendes will direct on the UK National Theatre’s Lyttelton stage in Spring 2023. With such heavyweights attached, it already has the weight and feel of a landmark production.

Netflix’s thriller Pieces of Her is based on a novel by the aptly named best selling author Karin Slaughter. Though it’s set in America, the whole of the series was shot in Australia with the majority of filming taking place in 2021, and many of the cast are Antipodeans and Brits as well as Americans.
It’s a twisty tale of a mother who carries out an act of bravery which suddenly exposes her to a world she had long since left behind, and a daughter who discovers she really doesn’t know her mum at all. Pay attention! But in case you’re distracted by the niggling sense of ‘where do a recognise them from?’ we’re here to remind you.

The revolution is being televised. Fifty years later. Apple TV+’s 1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything highlights how musicians were in touch with what was happening around them even as they were making things happen. Marvin Gaye lays down “What’s Going On” in the first episode, and the remainder of the eight-part docuseries builds the basic tracks which became the soundtrack to a changing world.
Solo ex-Beatles took to the streets and concert halls while The Rolling Stones, as a group, went deep into exile. Aretha Franklin went to the courthouse to post bail for former University of California philosophy professor Angela Davis, charged with “aggravated kidnapping and first-degree murder in the death of Judge Harold Haley.” Bill Withers quit his day job but held tight to his lunch box. David Bowie twisted a knife into the hippy movement, and Alice Cooper went to hell to celebrate.

The His Dark Materials TV series is massive in scope—not only in terms of film production, but in the sheer ambition of the story it is trying to tell. Adapted from the trilogy of the same name from Philip Pullman, the children’s fantasy saga brings together different worlds and the very different kinds of people and creatures who live in them. It’s an enormous project for one storyteller to undertake. In Season 1, the ridiculously prolific Jack Thorne wrote all eight episodes of His Dark Materials by himself. In Season 2, he has help.
Up-and-coming British writers Namsi Khan, Francesca Gardiner, Sarah Quintrell, and Lydia Adetunji joined Thorne in writing Season 2 of His Dark Materials, and in the monumental process of adapting The Subtle Knife from book to screen.

“His Dark Materials” writer Jack Thorne has partnered with actor-turned-writer Genevieve Barr to create a factual drama for BBC Two based on the true story about the campaign for disabled civil rights in Britain.
With a working title of “Independence Day? How Disabled Rights Were Won,” the 60-minute film centres on the people behind a campaign of direct action for disability rights.
The film enters the story through the eyes of Barbara Lisicki and Alan Holdsworth (pictured), two disabled cabaret performers who met in 1989 and went on to become the driving force behind Dan (Direct Action Network).
Their incendiary ‘Piss on Pity’ protest slogan helped to re-frame the debate around disability rights in the U.K., while their spontaneous pickets shut down cinemas, restaurants, stations and even the London underground, until their rights were enshrined into law.

The BBC’s Philip Pullman adaptation is a rich family fantasy that retains the books’ dark power…
This His Dark Materials review is spoiler-free. It was originally published on Den of Geek UK.
Current wisdom teaches that the age of family home viewing is over; parents and kids no longer crowd around the TV in a tumble of wet-from-the-bath hair, pyjamas and shushing. Instead, they’re dispersed around the home and plugged into separate devices.
That may be largely so, but it’s not the whole picture. In 2017, Ofcom reported that 70% of UK families still watch a shared TV programme at least once a week. If you’re among them and open to suggestion, then from Sunday the 3rd of November, make it this one.
In terms of family viewing, His Dark Materials is the real thing: as Douglas Adams might have said, it’s both complicated...

Emily Mortimer is to reboot classic British series Rumpole of the Bailey – the legal drama originally created by her father John Mortimer.
The Newsroom and Mary Poppins Returns star is in the early stages of development with the remake, which will be produced by her own indie King Bee and eOne.
The series, which ran on ITV predecessor Thames Television between 1978 and 1992, starred Leo McKern as Horace Rumpole, an elderly barrister in London who defended a weird and wonderful mix of clients. It started as a radio play on the BBC before making the move to television.
The reboot was revealed at a Deadline-moderated Banff Connect event in London by Polly Williams, eOne’s head of scripted development in the UK. The Designated Survivor studio has a first-look deal with Mortimer’s company, which she runs with her husband Alessandro Nivola.
Williams told Deadline that Mortimer has “reimagined” the series...

The BBC One/HBO TV series adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials has already begun production on Season 2.
His Dark Materials Season 2 was made official back in September 2018, per an announcement by BBC director general Tony Hall. It was an enormous commitment, especially considering the lavishness of the trailer footage we’ve seen from the yet-to-premiere series, a joint presentation of BBC One and HBO.
Indeed, Hall explained, via Variety, “We are making two series of Philip Pullman’s ‘[His] Dark Materials,’” adding, “The cost per episode is high – it’s really ambitious.” He also referred to it as “the sort of piece the BBC should make.”
Produced by Doctor Who and A Discovery Of Witches company Bad Wolf, His Dark Materials follows Philip Pullman’s bestselling fantasy book series, which includes The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass, seemingly with...

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” actress Jenn Murray is joining the cast of “Maleficent 2” starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, sources tell Variety.
Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Ed Skrein are also on board to star. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” helmer Joachim Ronning is set to direct.
Joe Roth is producing the film, with Jez Butterworth and Linda Woolverton penning the latest script. Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster wrote the most recent draft.
It is not clear where this film will pick up following the first movie, which was based on the fairy tale “Sleeping Beauty.” The original story centered on an evil fairy who cursed an infant princess to eternal sleep, only to realize the young girl was the only one who could save the kingdom from its dangerous ruler. “Maleficent” broke several box office records on its way to making $758.5 million worldwide.

Timothy Spall gives a moving performance in Electric Dreams’ strongest and most emotionally satisfying story yet…

At the centre of The Commuter is one of those truths that, like the inevitability of death, or how much salt they put in Kellogg’s Corn flakes, most of us prefer not to acknowledge. In a different life without our kids, we might be happier. We’d have fewer wrinkles, a tidier house and a better sex-life. The people we love aren’t always good for us.
The more uplifting side of that truth is that most of us choose them anyway. Whatever the hardship, our family is ours and no other option—even if it’s easier—can replace them.

Colin Trevorrow has been attached to direct Star Wars: Episode IX for a while now, and while the reviews of Trevorrow’s The Book Of Henry probably made a lot of Star Wars fans worried about how he’d handle the end of this new trilogy, LucasFilm itself didn’t seem to show any concerns. Now, though, it’s hard not to think of The Book Of Henry when The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the studio is bringing in a new writer to revise the previous draft of the script that Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly wrote. Again, LucasFilm would probably never say that it was worried about Trevorrow’s work, but this does seem to indicate that it’s not taking any chances.

If Jack Thorne was considered hot property before Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, penning the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s wildly successful story has only ensured Thorne is one of the most in-demand writers on the other side of the pond. Soon after breaking onto the scene with British teen drama Skins, the screenwriter enjoyed a streak that comprised award-winning contributions to This Is England ’88, The Fades, Don’t Take My Baby and This Is England ’90.
Imagine our excitement, then, now that Deadline has relayed news that Jack Thorne was inked a deal to collaborate with War & Peace helmer Tom Harper for The Aeronauts, a true-life period drama said to revolve around two enthused hot air balloonists who scaled higher than anyone else in the 19th century. Both Thorne and Harper are currently in possession of a spec script, meaning this project won’t be ready to fire up production anytime soon.

Following on from making history by scoring three BAFTA nominations last week, acclaimed British scribe Jack Thorne ("Skins," "The Last Panthers," "The Fades") has signed on to pen an event series adaptation of Philip Pulman's epic fantasy novel trilogy "His Dark Materials" for BBC One.
The novels follow an orphan girl who lives in a parallel universe in which science, theology and magic are entwined. Searching for a kidnapped friend, she uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children and a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. In the second book, she is joined on her journey by a boy who possesses a knife that can cut windows between worlds.
The "His Dark Materials" series has been published in more than forty languages and has sold worldwide close to 17.5 million copies. The first book, "Northern Lights," was adapted into the 2007 Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman film "The Golden Compass" which was a critical and commercial disappointment.

With great writing, a strong cast and a gripping story, Jack Thorne’s 2011 supernatural drama The Fades was one of the best…
According to former BBC Three controller Zai Bennett, fans of The Fades have themselves to blame for Jack Thorne’s superb fantasy drama not being recommissioned. We were too few and too old.
The BBC Three remit aimed to attract 16-34 year olds, Bennett explained at the 2012 Edinburgh International Television Festival. Because The Fades found more love among those with mortgages and middle-age spread than it did with fresh-faced teens and twenty-somethings, it didn’t fulfil that remit.
However much critical acclaim (plaudits from The Guardian, The Telegraph, some website called Den Of Geek) or however many awards (a Bafta for Best Drama, nominations for Best Writer, wins for Best Music and Digital Effects) The Fades received, the kids weren’t down so it had to go.

Though 2015 brought an absurd bounty of great television, not to mention the proclamation that we had entered the era of #PeakTV, there’s absolutely no reason to think that 2016 will let up. At all. In the first few months of the year alone, there are a whole host of great returning series gearing back up, as well as a wide variety of new ones. There are so many, in fact, that it took some difficulty to narrow them down to under 30. But here we are.

Everything you need to know about Star Wars Episode IX, including latest news, release date, cast, and much more!
Star Wars Episode IX will conclude the Star Wars saga as we know it. J.J. Abrams, who previously directed The Force Awakens, returned to the director's chair once again for this installment.
Previous director Colin Trevorrow left the project over creative differences. Trevorrow had worked on a draft of the script with Derek Connolly, before Jack Thorne (who has worked on cult genre favorite The Fades and who is currently working on a new adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials) was brought in.
The current script was written by Chris Terrio. John Williams will return to score his final Star Wars movie.
Filming has wrapped and the movie is now in post-production, as revealed by Abrams on Twitter:

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is following yesterday's news of Colin Farrell's Wizard casting with a lesser-known but possibly just as vital addition.
Irish actress Jenn Murray will have a "key role" in the Harry Potter spinoff, according to The Wrap.
Jk Rowling has written the script, expanding her Potter universe, with director David Yates returning to the series.
Eddie Redmayne will play the lead Newt Scamander, a magical zoologist on an adventure in New York.
Katherine Waterston and Alison Sudol have been cast as sisters alongside Ezra Miller and Dan Fogler.
Murray will apparently appear in scenes with Miller, who is expected to be Scamander's rival.
The actress has previously starred in Dorothy Mills alongside Carice van Houten, while she has upcoming roles in Love and Friendship opposite Chloe Sevigny and Stephen Fry, and Brooklyn with Saoirse Ronan. She also appeared in BBC dramas Truckers and The Fades.

Here's one of those 'This'll make you feel old' factoids - it's two years since the last ever episode of Skins aired.
E4's groundbreaking hormone-fest wrapped up on August 5, 2013 - with an older Cook (Jack O'Connell) heading off into an uncertain future at the close of 'Rise (Part Two)'.
Cook was but one of 27 major characters featured on Skins across three 'Generations' - in a total of 61 episodes, split into seven series. But where are the teen tearaways of Roundview College now?
Generation One
1. Nicholas Hoult
Hoult played Tony Stonem - the pre-eminent bad boy of Skins - across its first two series. Later badly hurt in a traffic accident and forced to rely on others, Tony had mellowed by his final episodes.
Now aged 25, Hoult has become a bona-fide Hollywood star with roles in this year's Mad Max: Fury Road and the much-anticipated book adaptations Dark Places and Kill Your Friends.

Harry Potter is heading to the London stage in the summer of 2016...
2016 is going to be a big year for Harry Potter. Already, the first in a new trilogy of films has been set for November 2016. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them will be set around 70 years before the existing Potter stories, and Eddie Redmayne has already been cast in the lead role.
But now we learn that Harry Potter is heading to the stage too. Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is set to open in London in 2016, and J K Rowling has been working with The Fades and Sandman movie writer Jack Thorne to put it together.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Rowling has revealed that it'll tell "an untold part of Harry's story". John Tiffany is set to direct the production.
An official website for the play has been launched, and you can find it here.
