It's kind of fun to use the regular youngsters to play their parents as kids. Just a little tweaking. It all gets down to jealousy of a woman who they feel decided to distance herself from them. She married a surgeon and this lifted her up. But it all gets down to the same night as the reunion but twenty years earlier. We are kept in the dark about a significant event that, if revealed, would reverse the snobbery and put the woman in her place. I don't understand the animus by some of this episode. While it wasn't perfect, there was plenty there to make it very watchable. The whole business with the men and the surgeon/husband who doesn't speak works quite well.
Derry Girls worked for me due to its originality and its simplicity. This storyline of showing elders in their youth and behaving same way as their kids has been done to death in many series. It was the least funny and the younger counterparts just are not funny at all.
This series the best episode was 3rd one and the 4th one worked because of that one kissing scene timed very well.

This last series of Derry Girls has been a strange ride. The excellent episodes ar the start have been marred by the last couple. This one in particular was shockingly bad. With only two episodes to go after this, we get a strange one with barely anything from the Derry Girls and the wee English fella, but a strange back in time episode featuring the parents as their younger selves. I don't watch to see the adults bickering and it's a shame this made it to air.
Honestly I can't imagine why there is so much hate for this episode. I love learning some back story of the parents so they're actual people and not just one dimensional secondary characters. The mammies are Derry girls too, after all. The story in this episode is a bit over the top but definitely not worth such poor reviews; many shows have filler episodes and this one is no exception although I'd argue this one ads more to the overall story. I need more characters to finish out this review so I'll just say overall this show is great, especially as a girl who is just a few years younger than the girls would be in the 1990s. Who doesn't love nostalgia even if it's from a different country?
Absolutely love this show, but season 3 has been weaker than the previous 2 seasons. This episode was a waste of my time. Watching with the family and we all agreed to stop watching just after halfway. Fingers crossed for a strong finish. The series deserves it.

Mary wears lime green, Deidre wears black, Jeanette wears bright red, and Geraldine wears white. Sarah is the only one who wears slightly different colors: she wears purple in the past and bright blue in the present.
- GoofsThe flashback portion takes place in 1977. Two of the songs, Teenage Kicks by The Undertones (from Derry Northern Ireland) and Alternative Ulster by Stiff Little Fingers (from Belfast Northern Ireland) were released in 1978.
