It's another cop show but this time it has some character and realistic story in the episodes. It's so nice to see a female lead as the commander and how she portrays herself is admirable: respectful, firm and fair. Unlike the other cop show FBI where the female lead is disrespectful, rude and obnoxious in the show but i do think that's her normal characteristics.
This show is worth watching good acting, good script and engaging.
Can't understand why I need to write 600 characters to review a show.
So I will have to repeat myself, good show watch it if you like cops show. Very realistic about the drama police persons face on a daily basis.

It's my modern day, Hill Street Blues! I absolutely adore the show, the characters, the story line! In my humble opinion, it's all that a bag of chips and twelve Snapples to go! It has all the ingredients to be truly worthy of an Emmy Award. The show grabs you from the start and leaves you eagerly waiting for next week's segment. I actually think that if it's fleshed out, it could be great on the big screen as well! Everyone that I have spoken with that has seen the show has it on their must see list as well. It's on the list of my top cop shows, including Blue Bloods and Chicago P. D. in short, it's a qualified winner! Please see it and you will also become an ENY Addict as well!
I am a crime/law show junkie, especially all of Dick Wolf's offerings. This show is written just as well, has just as interesting as characters and scenarios and I can't believe it hasn't been renewed! Jimmy Smits-what a pleasure to see you on the small screen again! Whatever role you take, you excel as an actor and solidify the cast. Amanda Warren is such a fresh breath and really stands out as a strong independent woman and effective leader. Richard kind is his sunny, engaging, and oh so perfect yet in his role as Captain; wise, someone old school, but more than willing to work with a younger woman and actually support her. Elizabeth Rodriguez and Kevin Rankin do have shades of their compatriots, Marissa Ramirez and Donnie Wahlberg on 'Blue Bloods', but still have plenty of their own talent not to feel as if they are copycat characters. The 'rookies' on the show, Olivia Lucarrdi and Lavel Schley, show excellent potential to becoming strong acting presences. So many police procedure shows are set in Manhattan so it's nice to see another borough being featured and one that has been sadly neglected. The show also shows the tightrope that comes with police versus politics and very realistically. I hope they reconsider renewing for the 2024 season!
Thankfully not your usual procedural!
The acting is good. Refreshing approach that doesn't follow the tired procedural storyline franchises. Character driven story lines are engaging and allow for many possibilities in the future. I've only watched three episodes so far and each one has started developing characters. The idea of a policeman living in the crime ridden area to connect with the people is interesting. The premise of the story at this stage is to restore some peace to the area. However the new police chief and the characters of the various beat cops and detectives is also a focus.

I love cop shows. Been watching them a long time. I'm particularly fond of Chicago PD right now. But East New York is kind of different. In a good way. I really like Amanda Warren in this role. And Jimmy Smits is always great. Olivia Luccardi and Ruben Santiago are standouts as well. It's fast paced but also takes time with the characters. It has the usual 2 to 3 situations the officers are dealing with per episode. It's got a good vibe to it. I hope the writers stay true to the storylines and characters. I'm impressed so far. Give it a shot. Looking forward to episode 3. Go East New York!!!!!

- TriviaAccording to NYPD Department policy, Members of the Service are prohibited from being assigned to work within the confines of their residential precinct except for school crossing guards and civilians who began working for the NYPD before July 2009. The rationale behind the rule, to avoid conflicts of interest, perceived or otherwise. That being said, as a matter of good Community Policing Policy, a member of the general public is less likely to take an adversarial tenor with a police officer, if it is a person they know very well.
