This was so beautiful and magical! The Houghs are so talented and they work well together. Derek is unbelievably talented and in a class all his own...Julianne is great too, but Derek is a rare gem. He's so talented. This felt a little rushed with so much to pack into 42 minutes, but the Dirty Dancing homage at the end was fantastic....so beautiful and just the right amount of original choreography mixed with today's dancing. However, even though Derek is amazing, my personal opinion is that Harry Shum Jr and Julianne stole the entire show with their Beauty and the Beast dance. I didn't even know who Harry Shum Jr was before this dance, but omg...you better believe I know who he is now. He could give Derek a serious run for his money. His dance with Julianne was gorgeous...the choreography was absolutely exquisite and their chemistry in the dance is beautiful. I've watched it 5 times on repeat and I'm still amazed. If you have a Disney+ subscription, you have to watch this!
Loved the tap dancing! I wish they would have done more dancing from before the 70's...starting with 20's...both Derek and Julianne so talented! The 80's we're so fun and so much more could have been done for that era.
If you love dancing, especially in musical films, this is an absolute must see film for you. Every number was an obvious love letter to the film it represented. I loved the variety of numbers too, because it didn't just concentrate on one style of dance and music. Oftentimes we will get features similar to this that seem too long, but in this case the only thing that I wanted was for it to be twice as long. There are so many iconic dance numbers from past films that they could easily have a sequel, and I would be among the first to tune in. Even the guest performers did an excellent job with their singing and dancing. Two thumbs sky high for this amazing show.
I adore Derek Hough. Julianne also but Derek for all the OBVIOUS reasons. Man is he dreamy. What I love about him is also what I love about this special. He is a throwback to a time when men were sexier, suaver, and oh so fabulous. I am also a fan of ALL the old Hollywood musicals. I WISH HOLLYWOOD STILL MADE THESE! Enough with the Superhero crap and some garbage... Let's revitalize real artistic expressions and dancing and singing. I would watch unlimited episodes or movies like this.... I want to see them pay homage to The Sound Of Music, Mary Poppins, Cinderella, Xanadu, etx. Moulin Rouge is my all time FAVORITE MUSICAL EVER.... I would LOVE to see all the numbers done by Derek and Julianne. PLEASE SOMEONE GIVE THESE 2 THEIR OWN WEEKLY VARIETY SHOW... a la Donny and Marie in the 70's!
On the heels of the series "The Real Dirty Dancing"---which was a competition designed to celebrate the now-iconic film---comes this offering from Derek and Julianne Hough. "Step Into" is a re-creation of many classic movie dance scenes, and it succeeds wonderfully.
The brother-sister team, as producers and stars, have created a beautiful tribute to the dancing of "Singin' in the Rain" and "Saturday Night Fever", among others. The production values are high. The cinematography and editing are beautiful. And the dancing itself is superb. Derek and Julianne surpassed my expectations.
I have only two complaints: I would have enjoyed a classic Astaire-Rogers dance number. And some of the dances were so good, I wanted them to continue. Well, you can't have everything. But I hope this production was successful enough that they come back with another, longer tribute that is even better.
Special mention to Kenny Ortega who, besides lending his credibility, displayed such emotion and enthusiasm for the project that it was touching.
