This show used a majority of dialogue and jokes from The Pee-Wee Herman Show (1981), although due to Phil Hartman's death, Captain Carl's dialogue and storyline is given to Cowboy Curtis.
Both Paul Reubens and Drew Powell have been on the show Gotham (2014) with ties to Penguin. Reubens played Penguin's father, Powell played Penguin's right-hand man. Reubens also played the Penguin's father in Batman Returns (1992).
