Corey Burton was initially unsure about being able to play Captain Hook in a program for pre-schoolers. He then realized he simply had to emphasize the comedy aspects of Hook's characterization, while still managing to remain faithful to Hans Conried's interpretation. Burton credits a large part of his achievement to his chemistry with Jeff Bennett, who voices Mr. Smee and first came up with the idea of playing the two characters as if they were a vaudeville comedy duo.
The Princess Tiger Lily, Indian Chief and the Indians are the only characters that did not appear in this animated series, due to their perceived stereotypical characteristics in the 1953's film.
