Summary
Reviewers say '1923' offers strong performances by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, yet faces criticism for inconsistent accents and slow pacing. Stunning cinematography and period detail are praised, but excessive violence and disjointed storylines are noted. Historical injustices are explored, though some find the portrayal of religious figures and indigenous people harsh. The Spencer and Alex romance is divisive, with mixed opinions on its execution. Overall, '1923' is an ambitious but flawed series with room for improvement.

Could Have Been A Good Show
I generally like Sheridan's because they present multiple viewpoints, we don't necessarily have to agree with. 1883 was a knockout, for story-telling, history, and character development.
1923 would have been even better than 1883 if not for the gratuitous snuff porn. I'm not talking about the usual sexual violence women face from day to day, as reasonably portrayed in this series, but about Whitman's appetites specifically.
We already know Whitman is a sociopath without any boundaries or redeeming features. Negatives about any character are easy to portray offscreen (assuming they are even necessary). Filming the snuff-porn and giving viewers no option to view a less offensive version does absolutely nothing to advance the plot, or improve the Sheridan brand.

Excellent
I remember watching the movie The Culpepper Cattle Co back in the day (1972) and wishing that American Westerns added a bit more realism and a sense of history. Sadly even to this day we get your Doris Day girl next door and Audie Murphy type offerings
I tried Yellowstone and didnt like it. My Wife refused to watch anymore of 1883 as she said there was too much talking.
1923 on the other hand is a gem. It gives you a real sense of how the West was and how it transitioned into the 20th century. From the plight of the Indians to the hardships the farmers endured it was all there. It gave me insights that I as a European had no knowledge of.
I thought the acting was excellent even if some characters have been heavily criticised.
Alex's portrayal of a spoilt English aristocrat was annoyingly spot on even if her accent at times was dreadful. Helen Mirren's Irish accent was dreadful but her acting was excellent as was Harrison Fords. My wife hated Timothy Daltons character saying he was wicked and evil so he got that spot on. Jerome Flynn was the stand out performance for me personally. Oh almost forgot Spencer Brandon Sklenar) , one for the ladies to swoon over. I could go on but I am no film buff. Just wanted to do a brief review and say if you haven't watched it you should . It wont disappoint.

Loving it
1923 hooked me right from the start! It was so much fun to dive back into the Dutton world, especially during such a fascinating time period. The show juggled multiple storylines, but they all felt equally interesting. And let me tell you, I was obsessed with Alex and Spencer! Their chemistry was undeniable, and I was rooting for them the entire season. By the end, I was practically glued to the screen willing them to get together.
If you're a fan of compelling characters, intricate plots, and a dash of romance, you don't wanna miss 1923. It's a fantastic continuation of the Dutton family saga!

Beautiful
Man... Where do I start. It's short (which is why I watched it - usually don't watch TV Series). It's not very faced-paced, it is really slow at some points, but that doesn't mean bad. It is beautifully shot with a lot of great scenery, animals, countries. Two of the characters are in non-stop adventures which I loved - they go from place to place, trying to go home and meet new people... I love this kind of dynamics.
There are a few stories that cross paths at some point, and it is very well made.
The direction is 10/10, and the script altough cliche and melodramatic at some points, somehow works :D I mean, yeah... Hollywood drama, but made well and really hits you. If you ar esensitive, you will cry! :D
The acting... Man. Altough all of the actors did their job to the max, I believe Julia Schlaepfer stole the show. She just crushed the role, and especially the last episode. They will not give her an Emmy probably, but it is one of the best performances I've seen in my life. Bright future for this one hopefully!
One minus are some not graphic but... disgusting BDSM scenes. I am okay with that, I like BDSM, but this one particular character was too much to me and it was gross (not graphic, that's not the issue, but too much they show how twisted he is, and i turns me off. Creepy disgusting villain.. like sadistic next level.)
Anyway, altough kinda Hollywoodish, there were lots of unexpected deaths, which I really appreciated. Plot armor was there, yes, but didn't last until the end :)
Don't know hat to say. I love mix of all genres - adventure, drama, action, lots of romance and yeah - this one delivers which is rare.
Final Score: 8/10.

Looking forward to seeing more of this series
I absolutely love 1923! It's right up there with Yellowstone and 1883. If you're a fan of those two then you'll be a fan of this to. It takes the best of both of those shows and combine it for this one. This is definitely a show for adults with all the violence and language it that's what makes it so good. It's not for children. At this point Taylor Sheridan can do no wrong. He hits home run after home run. I love everything about this show...the acting, writing, directing, production, cinematography, etc, etc. Are all excellent. I mean this stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren for crying out loud. For those two A-list actors to do a tv show you know it had to be good. I know those two are going to get all the attention, and rightfully so, but there are just so many other great actors in this. Too many to even name. I can't wait to see more of this series and where it goes.

- TriviaThe Depression of 1920-1921 began in Montana in 1918 and continued longer. Between drought and the reduced demand for agricultural products, due to the end of the "Great War" (aka First World War, from 1914 to 1918), many farmers suffered greatly. As a result, Montana farmers would default on wartime loans which lead to widespread bank failure throughout the state. Between 1921-1925, half of the farmers in Montana lost their land. By 1925, 70,000 of the 82,000 homesteaders in Montana left. In addition, 200 banks in Montana failed. Not only were crops affected by the drought, it was followed by locusts infestation and cattle succumbing to contagion.
