Probably one of the funniest comedy series since Friends

I know this might come shocking as a comparison, but this series is by far the funniest one I've seen since Friends. It tackles relevant issues - gender identity, social culture, couple dynamics, you name it - with humour and a well balanced POV as it manages to present all these topics in a raw and relatable manner. It's definitely worth a watch if you are into light-hearted comedies that are rich in life content and manage to get through important messages in between the laughs and smirks. We are all human, we all struggle to identify who we are, how we should behave, and, more importantly, when to sit back and stop taking yourself too seriously.

The second season is just as good, if not better than the first, so I can't wait for the next season. Give it a chance - I've binge watched it with my hubby, and we couldn't put it to rest. It's a satire, it doesn't hold back, and that's the beauty of it. Enough with lukewarm dialogues, this one is fun and honest to express all kinds of opinions: enjoy the ridicule of some of the situations and get a chance to reflect.

Very enjoyable and contemporary

Well, what can I say? This has been a pleasant surprise.

In a world in evolution four male friends are facing changes in the society that effects their own lives...

"Machos Alfa" approaches with irony topics that are serious and full of complexities. The result is a very enjoyable comedy in 10 episodes (but a second season has been confirmed) that is well written and supported by a cast that is just perfect.

I noticed that most of the very negatives comments are from men, and I am afraid that's because this series touches some 'exposed nerves' from little insecure and weak males. That level of nasty vitriol against the feminist movement seems to confirm that the show has hit the target. Well done.

Personally, I'm looking forward to season two.

It's a comedy.. not a documentary (for those requesting "realism")

Real life is never like comedy and rightfully so. For comedy to work you have to exaggerate things and characters to a certain level. Look back at all the comedies you have seen, none of the characters are "real". Forest Gump is not real, nor realistic. The same is valid for the "Machos Alfa". They are vessels to carry the story and link the comic events in a cohesive story.

It's true that comic side of "male-hood" is on display here. But that is not a surprise.. the title is not Alfa Women & Men.. or the story of modern couples.. it's not "Coupling" (brilliant British comic series about relationships).. it's about Alfa Matchos and the comic side of that social farce. It's also a valid mirror of all the feministic blind alleys.. if you are able to see it. But the feminism is not on display here.. it's modern patriarchy.

Season 2 just nailed it, begging for the next!

The four protagonists of the show continue to challenge traditional notions of masculinity in the second season, which manages to be even funnier than the first.

The writers skillfully maintain the depth and complexity of the multiple characters, including the return of the female characters from the previous season.

Themes such as non-traditional relationships, identity politics, workplace harassment, feminism, and patriarchy are explored with wit and humor, highlighting the absurdity of modern life. The show manages to entertain while also shedding light on important issues, allowing viewers to learn and laugh simultaneously. In doing so, the show demonstrates that those who are brave enough to learn about and understand different perspectives can gain a deeper understanding of the true meaning of love and peace. It is the brave who are able to find joy and appreciate the beauty of life!

The best comedy I've seen in a while!

Four alpha males trying to find their place and reinvent their selves in the time of empowering woman. Sarcastic, ironic, iconic! And so much fun!

I was looking for a comedy and this Spanish production made it for me.

The acting was great, the plots are surprisingly funny and the production was really well done.

Also you can take a great look at the city of Madrid through the series as they saw it to you as beautiful as it can be.

The idea of talking about how males have to evolve to give women the place in society that they deserve, one of the greatest issues that we are concerned about, makes the whole series essential for one to make up your mind in a lot of things that couldn't even imagined.

Looking forward to watch the second season right away.

... very pleasant little surprise from Netflix

... it's clever-dialogue throughout all ten-consistently-well-done-episodes ... all the characters-actors are engaging-talented ... production-values on-par-better than much-other-European-programming... it really is hoped they bring it back returning it for at minimum another season

... Ishita Chatterjee in her review at Midguard Times has it right: "The series is a tale of four men learning what their specific blind spots are regarding how they view women and working to make positive changes that will make their lives better. As for the comedy, it works well and takes on an absurdist tone in certain situations like the "vibrator" incident at school. And this makes the show more comical. Overall, [I'd] give this show a try if you want to enjoy a good dose of comedy that will tickle your senses and brain. 7/10"

It couldn't be better

Machos Alfa continues to prove that comedy can be a powerful tool to explore social issues with intelligence, freshness, and a bold approach. In its third season, the Caballero brothers, creators of hits like La que se avecina and Aquí no hay quien viva, delve deeper into gender dynamics and the challenges faced by modern men in a world that is evolving faster than many can keep up with.

The series follows a group of friends who, despite their different personalities, share a common crisis: their traditional concept of masculinity is constantly being questioned by their surroundings, particularly by the women in their lives. The plot unfolds as each of them tries to adapt (with varying degrees of success) to the new social rules, confronting their own biases, insecurities, and past mistakes.

What makes Machos Alfa so successful is its ability to blend humor with reflection. The series never feels preachy or moralistic but uses comedic situations and clever dialogue to highlight behaviors and attitudes that, while exaggerated at times, are more common than we might like to admit. From the use of inclusive language to conflicts over gender expectations in relationships, the writers tackle relevant issues without losing the light and entertaining tone that defines the series.

The cast remains one of the show's strongest points. Gorka Otxoa, Fernando Gil, Raúl Tejón, and Fele Martínez bring a unique chemistry that makes their characters believable and charismatic. Each of them has their own narrative arc, and it's fascinating to see how they evolve throughout the season. But one of the highlights of this third installment is the role of the female characters, played by actresses such as María Hervás, Raquel Guerrero, Paula Gallego, and Kira Miró. Their roles not only add depth and contrast to the series but are also key to some of the most memorable comedic moments.

The Caballero brothers' direction is solid and effective, maintaining a fast pace that makes the episodes fly by. The series continues to use visual and narrative resources typical of sitcoms, but it also allows for moments of deeper introspection and emotional weight, enriching the viewer's experience.

One of the keys to Machos Alfa's success is its accessibility to all audiences. The series has a laid-back, relatable tone that allows both men and women to see themselves in the situations presented. Additionally, it manages to address complex topics such as machismo, gender equality, and the redefinition of social roles in a natural and understandable way, without going to extremes or losing its humor.

While the show can be seen as a critique of traditional male behavior, it's also a celebration of people's ability to change and adapt. The male characters in Machos Alfa aren't portrayed as villains but as men who, like many others, are trying to find their place in a world that's no longer the one they knew. This humanistic and optimistic perspective is one of the aspects that makes the series so special.

Compared to other recent comedies, Machos Alfa stands out for its courage in addressing controversial social topics without losing its light-heartedness or ability to make people laugh. While other shows lean toward drama or moralizing, Machos Alfa dares to laugh at everything, including its own protagonists and the absurd situations they find themselves in.

The humor, as always in the Caballero brothers' work, is varied and effective, blending absurd situations, witty dialogue, and visual gags with references to current events and pop culture. The series isn't afraid to touch on taboo topics or take some situations to the extreme, but it always does so tastefully and with a clear intention to make the audience think while being entertained.

In terms of production, Machos Alfa maintains a high standard, with well-crafted cinematography and art direction that help create a coherent and appealing visual universe. The soundtrack also deserves special mention, as it reinforces the series' light and optimistic tone.

In conclusion, Machos Alfa is one of those comedies that achieves something very difficult: being both entertaining and relevant. Its ability to combine humor and reflection, along with a strong cast and well-constructed scripts, makes it one of the best Spanish comedies in recent years. The third season confirms that the Caballero brothers remain at the top of their game and have much to offer in the current television landscape.

For those who have followed the series from the beginning, this new installment is a natural and satisfying evolution of the characters and plots. And for those who haven't seen it yet, Machos Alfa is a perfect opportunity to enjoy a smart, contemporary comedy that not only makes you laugh but also invites you to reflect on the social changes we are living through.

Enjoyable Lighthearted comedy

The story follows the lives of four quirky male characters who all have their peculiarities that get them into trouble with the opposite sex.

The series is high-quality film making, with excellent visual storytelling. The performances are strong and the characterisations believable.

Great editing holds the series together along with good cinematography.

At times the dialogue was fast and reading the subtitles was challenging however, the storyline's were easy to follow.

We enjoyed the use of comedy to explore an important social issue, affecting heterosexual relationships.

Overall the series provided a few laughs.

An Absolute Masterpiece of Comedy

This comedy is likely the funniest show I've seen in my life, I'm not kidding. It's beat after beat after beat. The punchlines just keep coming at you. It feels real and based and the situations are relatable far and wide.

The caveat here is.. surprise, surprise.. that you must be native or fluent in Spanish to really get all of it. What's even more, I'd argue that if you're not Spanish or lived in Spain, you will get far fewer jokes.

With that in mind, I'm sure you can enjoy it alright in English.

En otras palabras, si hablas Español, esta serie es una pasada. Sigo esperando ansiosamente las siguientes temporadas.

OMG this is just pure gold, best laugh I've had in a long time

I hope these series will like...never end! This was the most entertaining, hilarious series I've seen in a long time. I'm 46 so I can relate to all these issues they encounter. The dynamics among the guys is hilarious, who needs enemies when you got friends like these? :-D This was so much fun! We watched it with my husband after the child went to bed and sometimes we laughed so hard we had to remind ourselves to be quiet not to wake up the kid. The actors were all brilliant and the storyline was also great. I would have watched it for eternity. We need more series like this, light, funny, entartaining! 10 out of 10 from me! Don't miss it!

negative end of season 1

IMO series is worth watching nonetheless.

First season ends up badly for everyone, and not every men classify as alphas.

It doesn't matter if you're alpha, beta, right, wrong, cheater, betrayed or if you do nothing bad. Men always lose, end up alone and broke, and they just take it like a man.

Women destroy you no matter what; some to gain an advantage and some to gain just the view of pain in your eyes.

Maybe it's a somewhat realistic tv series and should be valued as so. In a world where toxic femininity is on the rise.

I still hope all grieving men and women can get back from the ashes, or to their feet, on the second season.

Clever and smart, a change from the usual Spanish Telenovela

This series is one of the cleverest and well produced to come out of Spain. It's modern, deals with current social media issues as well as the absurdities of modern living. The characters could use more development but that may happen if the series is renewed for a second season. For example, if the creators are serious about the characters exploring all aspects of their masculinity, personality and sexuality, they need to do so in a sensitive and tasteful manner. It would make the premise for series more believable I.e that the men are interested in making the journey to evolve and discover what it means to be "masculine". The negative is that like most of the series from Spain, the audio is terrible. This makes the dialog inaudible at times, especially when the actors deliver their lines as if they are just reading them rapidly from the script.

Unfortunately, the second season loses the innovation and momentum of the first and is not as enjoyable or engaging. The writing deteriorated as did the acting which becomes more mechanical. The rapid fire dialog and poor audio quality makes the speech inaudible and incomprehensible. The characters seem stuck in their stereotypes and show little development. If there is a third season, one can only hope that it regains its uniqueness and momentum!

The third season is a total waste of time. Sadly, the series went downhill so fast that that the rating has to drop as well. It's not worth the time to watch it any longer!

Lighthearted and Refreshing watch

I found the series to be a really entertaining and refreshing watch. Even though it did delve into the topic of gender norms and masculinity/feminism they did well to have a range of the different males/females portrayal of the different typical stereotypes. Found it to be truly brilliant. A recommended watch for those who are enlightened and in tune with the modern world and the direction it's moving in in terms of gender roles; not so recommended for those still very stuck in traditional and outdated views of gender roles as you people would probably just get offended and give this wonderful series a rating it doesn't deserve.

Funny, interesting, could go deeper

It is a funny comment on the situations of couples and romantic/sexual dynamics when men think they are "alpha males", but don't even know the origen of the concept.

Its main characters are the men but they are not the ones calling the shots, which is refreshing; still feels like third wave feminism, but good effort on including a guy constantly calling out on sexist behaviors, they chose to make him annoying, but still...at least it was there.

Overall is funny, entertaining and has a lot of subtext; it is not perfect, but opens the door to the discussion of the toxicity of patriarcal society on men and women.

Season two went off the deep end

So I thoroughly loved season one and most of season two has been fantastic but the character of santi has gone completely off the deep end. I honestly don't know what they're trying to achieve other than to make you feel extremely uncomfortable with the fact that he has no morals anymore and just squirms to come up with any lie to get out of anything. All the while telling every single person they're being too masculine and disrespecting women. It's so dumb and hard to watch. I hope season three makes up for it. I look forward to it improving. Enjoy the first season, and bare through the second.

A brilliant piece of a contemporary art - a tribute to the modern masculinity

The series is ingenious in showing how men think and act. It's so delightful to watch how beautiful men friendship is. The series brings into the focus how vulnerable the modern men have become, despite the common belief that men are the tougher sex.

The characters are chosen extremely well to show some of the most common archetypes of the today's men behavior. The situations are well picked to show the most common issues men (and women) today face. Like a divorce, for example. Or a loneliness. Or a search for a meaning in life, relationships, career.

Finally, the series ends up creating a feeling of "I want more!" Seems like we've only tasted a tiny piece of a remarkably tasty pie. And we're just in the beginning of a wonderful journey to explore the vast subject of the men masculinity and friendship altogether.

I'm so eager to see the next season...

Does better job than similar US comedy series at discussing social issues

Overall I was very entertained and enjoyed the way they tackled everything! I watched the 3rd season's final 5 episodes back-to-back. Being Greek, I've experienced first-hand this (vaguely Mediterranean) machismo. Men like Raúl really do exist! I also found it smart how some plots were self-referential, for instance when in the series they make a TV series called Machos Alfa (no joke), then using this plot device to further discuss the issues at hand.

Since the series' entire premise is macho men stereotypes and the surrounding social context, the dialogues and discussions aren't painfully cringe, and the scenarios and plots come off as quite natural yet contemporary and based on reality. In a similar way to how UK's Sex Education explored sexuality, gender etc, this series tackles monogamy, incels, toxic masculinity, pregnancy, open relationships, homosexuality, sexual curiosity, workplace harassment, etc etc etc. In this way it gives the discussions depth, rather than focusing on just a couple basic, tired, overdone issues. It also shows how pervasive and overlapping these social issues really are: extra points for that!

The humour is not very high brow but does feel based on real life ironies, human egos, human weaknesses, misunderstandings and mix ups. Occasionally the character actions/decisions feel a bit pathetic, perhaps done in the name of comedy, but the plot still feels like it has a realistic flow, e.g. When couples fight dirty, or couples constantly make up and break up.

Compare this to the US series Survival of the Thickest, where a woman's lifestory/environment is used as a means to discuss similar social issues via the comedic route, but which actually feels like one long preachy PSA with unrealistic dialogue, extravagantly staged scenarios, binary portrayals of characters (if you're a conservative you must be evil type thing) and a very forced sense of humour relying on semi witty quips and clapbacks (so, no sense of humour).

Also, Machos Alfa doesn't pretend to solve all the problems it faces, but portrays the real ebb and flow of successes and failures, battles won or lost and general disarray of real life. I often question how Luz could be with/love someone like Raúl, but this feels like a very familiar scenario where a couple's love doesn't always make sense to an outside. In this show, love isn't reserved for those who de facto morally deserve it (we all know idiots who somehow have found someone to love them -- who are we to say they don't deserve it because they are liar or cheaters). In this sense this series feels grounded in the messy unfairness of reality. Yes some things are exaggerated for comedic affect but which in my opinion never lose sight of the issues being discussed.

I also appreciated how issues where not shown as super one-sided, and were explored from various angles, showing how usually there is a grey area, rather than things being just black or just white.

All that being said, the Most Badly Written Character Award goes to Santi's daughter. Their relationship is unbearable to watch. Perhaps Santi feels he can let her treat him the way she does as a way to make up for her being a child of divorce? Their interactions as entirely ridiculous, he is spineless around her, and that girl is insufferable, her character is very one-note: bratty know-it-all with zero redeeming qualities. Then again, when we see how her mother behaves it really helps explain the daughter's character flaws.

Good comedy

It made me laugh a lot. It's comedy so don't expect it to be real with way too complex characters.

. I finished watching all of it. It showed the irony of the modern society. The "good" and "bad" of feminism

Some of the comments here are people who only watched 5 episodes. So to me that doesn't count. It gets better with time. It shows a lot of scenarios that are happening currently that makes "making everyone happy" an impossible task.

. At the end it gives the idea that we all make mistakes, that we are not perfect And that it is extremely difficult to fit in everyone's ideals. But overall I liked it cause it was fun to watch and made me laugh a lot.

I love this

This is something I put on to listen to while doing jobs around the house but I started listening and found myself watching the tv rather than doing the housework, in fact I got nothing done and became a couch potato growing roots, but it was the weekend so it doesn't hurt every now and then.

I was into this series straight away. I found myself laughing out loud and ended up binge watching both series.

It's funny and refreshing. The guys have great rapport as the four friends and Raquel guerrero is brilliant in her role.

The writers of this are extremely talented. And I loved all the different perspectives and the way their stories unfold and the topics that were covered in a humorous lighthearted way while still making a point while giving you something to think about

Can't wait for series 3 *****

Superb

This is the best comedy show I've probably ever watched. It is consistent and entertaining. Pretty much every episode is 10/10. The writing is superb. It's not PC but that's not the point of it. In its own way, it gets the viewer to look at things from a different angle, it is brash and subtle at the same time. It genuinely made me laugh out loud time and again. It is full of wit and charm and the acting is excellent throughout. Yes, much of the show is exaggerated but that is part of what it is. It is a truly brilliant piece of work and I feel like I have waited all my life to see these characters on screen, it exposes the many different personalities of people.

Love it !

I had so much fun ! I absolutely love this series !

It's a series that has it all: humor intertwined with realistic elements and an exploration of male psychology. As a psychologist, I appreciate how the final season delves into the sensitive and often overlooked topic of male suicide, shedding light on the fact that men are less likely to seek help when struggling emotionally. This portrayal not only highlights a critical societal issue but also opens the door for conversations about breaking down stigma and promoting mental health support for men.

The series balances its comedic tone with deeply human moments, showing how societal expectations and gender norms can weigh heavily on men. By addressing topics like vulnerability, emotional expression, and the importance of support networks, Machos Alfa challenges stereotypes and encourages reflection. It's not just entertainment; it's a narrative that fosters empathy and awareness, making it relevant for both viewers and professionals in the field of mental health.
