Usually, I don't care for short movies and hardly ever bother to review them, but I'm gladly making an exception for "Gnomes". This is 10 minutes - give or take - of pure and unhinged horror entertainment, chock-full of grueling gore and imaginative little creatures. A lone female jogger is lured off the path by a mysterious trail of glowing mushrooms, but then gets subjected to sadist torturing by little critters that you commonly expect to be cute and harmless. It's an incredibly fun short with great gore-effects and skillful editing. The closing credits are almost half a long as the film itself, but very creative. "Gnomes" is a Dutch production, and there's some involvement from Richard Raaphorst ("Frankenstein's Army"). Hopefully this doesn't get turned into a long-feature, because then they have to build a storyline around it, and the magic will probably be ruined.

No pun intended - curiosity did not only kill the cat .. but we know that. Well seemingly not everyone actually knows that as the short movie here is showcasing. Of course you have to have people doing stuff ... that is not really well thought of .. although to be fair, this is also quite clever from the .. gnome world.

This was quite successful .. so much so, that they are planning to do a feature length movie of it. I heard people question if or how they would do that ... but I am sure they will find ways to ... flesh it out! I just had to - I was working towards that - so no pun intended once again? Well you'll be the judge of that. The short is nothing a sensible soul may be able to stomach ... talking of stomach ... let's leave it at that ... I will not spill my guts .. I mean those of the movie of course. You have to watch to find out - but again: if you are squeamish, this is quite visceral and explicit in its depiction of ... blood and other stuff ... gnomes will never be the same after this!
