The film took longer to produce than the director originally thought it would. Due to scheduling conflicts, trying to find actors, lack of funds, and the rigors of animation, the film wasn't actually completed until the following year.
Director Anthony Thurman had a little more money and resources when he worked on this film in comparison to the first 'Detective Downs' film. When Thurman made the original, he scanned in many of his drawings and retraced all the lines in Adobe Photoshop with a mouse. This is why the drawings in part one look less detailed and polished. It's harder to draw with a mouse than with a pen.
On 'Detective Downs 2', Thurman had a drawing tablet that eliminated the need for paper and a scanner. By drawing directly into Photoshop with the tablet, it allowed for much more professional-looking artwork. Also, it saved time and allowed him to make much more detailed designs.
