Tall Poppy

"Tall Poppy" is an unusual short film which was directed by Brian Henson and the Henson Company. It's also unusual because instead of the usual hand-puppets, like their muppets, it appears they are using marionettes in the film. Also, it was made for an Australian insurance company and was shown on TV in a truncated five minute version. I saw the full length 10 minute version.

I found out that the term 'Tall Poppy' refers to someone who has become a huge success in the eyes of others. In this case, however, Poppy is also an incredibly tall girl.

The story is set in a world full of grays and shades of grayish colors. However, as Poppy grows, she has an effect on those around her...and the gray, drab world becomes more and more colorful.

So is it any good? Well, I was surprised that I didn't particularly like it. The puppetry was jerky and wasn't as polished as I'd expected. The story, also, was okay but nothing especially special. I see this as a curiosity as opposed to a must-see short film.
