Although completed in 1934 and first shown in Ireland early the following year, this film was not distributed or shown outside Ireland for over 75 years. Its U.S. premiere took place in New York City at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall on September 22nd, 2011.
The director, Denis Johnston, describes the making of this film in detail in his memoir "Orders and Desecrations", published by Lilliput Press in 1992. Many of the cast were drafted from the Dublin theatre companies. Others were friends who "came along for the ride".
