With Sharknado 5 making a splash on TV screens across the globe these past few weeks, what better time to visit the world of The Asylum? With a myriad of films under their belt, from their beginnings as king of the mockbuster to their foray into original film making, it’s no secret we’re big fans of these bastions of the direct to DVD market and have reviewed a Lot of their output! With that in mind, here’s my pick of the Top 5 (because it’s Sharknado Five… geddit?!?) movies from The Asylum in – shock, horror – order of preference…

Wil Wheaton has had the privilege of playing a Starship crew member and a host of a sci-fi-pop-comedy-talk show on television, a board game aficionado on the web, and an imbiber of Newcastle’s new beers in a Twitter video. Now he can add “matchmaker” to his resume. The actor known for playing Wesley Crusher and his Geek & Sundry gaming web series TableTop stars in a new promotional spoof video from Nerdist Industries for the fake smartphone app Duo.
The video starts off with “relationship expert” Dr. Hank Tannen (Wheaton) explaining how easy his Duo app has made it for superheroes to find their ideal sidekicks, no matter how busy their crime-fighting days may be. The short then brings in “spokespeople” in the form of Captain America and Bucky Barnes, Green Arrow and Flash, and Batman and Robin (both versions of him, as well as the Nightwing interpretation). But as it turns out,...

Meghan Trainor’s song "All About That Bass" is so catchy and addicting to listen to. Nerdist presents a Team Unicorn music video parody that mixes in Star Wars references called "All About That Base: No Rebels."
Team Unicorn is not the first to make a Star Wars parody using that hook. Youtube user Liminal Jay created a music video parody three days before Halloween. Team Unicorn did a much better job in my opinion in terms of lyrics, dancing, costumes, and references to both the original music video and Star Wars.
Details about the music video via Nerdist:
Meghan Trainor’s sassy “All About That Bass” has taken a trip to the galaxy far, far away in our latest Nerdist Presents: a new Team Unicorn music video! The Unicorns have dressed in Empire attire, brought in dancing stormtroopers and astromechs, added some Darth Sidious, and made the popular song an Imperial anthem.

Team Unicorn
Jane Lynch, Alan Tudyk, Tara Strong and Kevin Shinick will provide the voices for Adult Swim's live-action/animated hybrid pilot "Team Unicorn". The four will play Team Unicorn and their cartoon counterparts.
From the creators of "Robot Chicken," this modern satire of Saturday morning kids' shows follows four mythical unicorn heroines who masquerade as culture-obsessed human girls. The show presents darkly ironic twists on 1980s cartoon tropes. [Source: The Live Feed]
Hello, My Name Is Doris
Sally Field will join Max Greenfield, Jack Antonoff and Beth Behrs in Michael Showalter's indie comedy "Hello, My Name Is Doris".
Field will play an isolated sixty-year old woman who is motivated by a self-help seminar to romantically pursue a younger coworker. This causes her to stumble into the spotlight of the local hipster social scene. [Source: Deadline]
The Duff
Nick Eversman ("Get On Up") has joined the cast of teen comedy "The Duff" for CBS Films.

It's that time of year where horror sites and fans present their Best Horror Films of 2013 lists. For some reason I've typically steered clear of top lists in the past. I think it's mostly because of the constant whining and bellyaching that occurs once lists are released. Plus there will inevitably be good films that didn't make the list. However, mostly it's the constant cries of "That wasn't a horror movie that was a thriller stupid!" or "That movie released last year dummy!" or "There are too many mainstream releases here losers!" or my personal favorite "That film totally sucked so you guys suck!", that really get to me.
This year I decided to go ahead and make a MoreHorror Top 20 Horror Films of 2013 list because a lot of people seem interested in our take. Yes there are some mainstream Hollywood films on the list,...

Being a fan of comedic slasher films, the Hatchet series is something I am very fond of. Regardless of which one "is the better one". Frankly, it is irrelevant to me due simply to the fact that it's never taking itself too seriously in any of them.
With the title Hatchet, 1, 2, or 3 you simply know what you're in for when you press play. Hatchet 3 however, is the most serious one of them all. Its a gore pizza with a dash of cheese.
Following Marybeth back into the swamp, starting directly after the second film, it has the same formula as its predecessor. The trilogy actually seems more like one big film, as each one of them follows exactly where the last left off. With a new Director, Cameraman Bj McDonnell from the first two grabs the helming reigns for the third and final installment. It's...

Adam Green's landmark franchise, Hatchet, has been controversial among horror fans since its debut in 2006. While some panned it as a rip-off of Friday the 13th and accused Green of being an overzealous fanboy hack, other fans bonded together to form a fiercely loyal fan club called The Hatchet Army who devour everything related to the series. These fans helped launch Hatchet into the stratosphere and ensured not only one sequel, but two.
Now, we have Hatchet III, the denouement of the trilogy conceived by an 8-year-old Green, wrapping up the arc of this particular storyline and coming across as little more than a gore-soaked love letter to the fans. Green stepped down as the director for the final episode of the franchise,...

We're very proud to debut a new short film from writer-director Axelle Carolyn today here on FEARnet – Hooked, a fun twist on the slasher genre that proves "there's always a bigger fish." Filmed on a beach in El Segundo, California, Hooked stars Texas Chainsaw Massacre III's R.A Mihailoff and Team Unicorn's Clare Grant. It's edited and produced by the acclaimed Neil Marshall (The Descent, Centurion) and features cinematography by Hatchet's Will Barratt and music by Repo! and Insidious composer Joseph Bishara. Check out Hooked, and an exclusive interview with Carolyn, after the jump. What inspired Hooked? How did you come up with the idea? I finished post on my first...

Axelle Carolyn - who is currently prepping a feature film - found some time to knock out a short during a stay in Los Angeles. Hooked was the outcome, a small slice of horror that made its premiere on FEARnet today. The cast is minimal: R.A. Mihailoff ( Leatherface , Hatchet II ) and Clare Grant ( Masters of Horror , Team Unicorn) star. Neil Marshall, Carolyn's hubby, co-produced with Theresa Eastman and Joe Bishara of Insidious provided the music. Take a look. Carolyn, author of "It Lives Again! Horror Movies in the New Millennium," talks about the project here .

If you are sick of hearing about the hot geek girl phenomena--too bad. I'm going to talk about it again and you will have to deal with it. Personally, the hot geek girl "problem" annoys me. It annoys me solely because it's a problem that there are hot geeks. Who fucking cares again? Oh right, almost everyone. And That is a problem.
The thing is, very few people come out of the womb hot. When you start off exploring your inner geek self, slowly and with a mirror in the privacy of your bedroom, you are probably young and not yet at the stage where it is acceptable to shower every day. Get it? The majority of these hot geek girls were probably geeks before they were hot. I mean it. Hollywood does crazy things to people--like give them money so that they can buy nice clothes, have someone do...

Tons of clips in today's update, so keep scrolling till you see Patton Oswalt. ;)
The second part of the interview The Gaming Liberty did with Bear McCreary has been posted (hit the link for the whole thing). No updates on Blood and Chrome after all. Here are a couple of quotes about Caprica & BSG (note - he is working on an *extended* Caprica soundtrack):
Retroplayer - So with Caprica being cancelled without the chance of a second series and BSG over are you proud of the work you did on them overall? How do you feel looking back?
Bear - I’m very proud of the work I did and contributions I made in helping to create a universe on those two series. I feel that BSG had such a profound influence on my life that even to try and talk about it is a fools errand. It changed me personally,...

Odds are if you’re surfing B3K, you have a little geek in you. Odds are if you have a little geek in you, you’ve heard of Milynn Sarley. Hailed by some as the ‘the coolest lady ever’, Milynn has starred in numerous ‘Team Unicorn’ videos which have gone viral, Hosted G4TV’s Attack of the Show! and she’s probably the only person who keeps Chuck Norris from sleeping soundly at night. I got to sit down with Miss Sarley and discuss Anime, guns and world domination.
Aaron M.K.: On your twitter account you say that you’re girl geek and technically you don’t exist, what started you down the path of geekdom?
Milynn Sarley: It was never “Hey I’m gonna set out on a path to become a geek!” My dad was a teenager when I was born and my Aunts,...
