Sentry

'SENTRY (2022)' is a sci-fi short film in which a pair of men find themselves locked in a tense long-range gun fight. The cinematography is crisp and the special effects are really convincing. Plus, the action is staged well and there's a fair bit of tension built up over a small amount of time. The piece is short, sharp and to the point, but it ultimately feels a little empty. Don't get me wrong, it's enjoyable enough for what it is, but it just feels as though it's lacking a bit of punch. Perhaps that's because the story is very thin, or perhaps its because the ending has an odd pace to it that undercuts its impact (if literally one shot was trimmed a little, the ending would work much better). Still, it's an entertaining and well-achieved effort overall.

Sentry doesn't really have much of a plot. Essentially, it's a futuristic shootout that showcases the director's vision of high-tech weaponry used in future combat-or in this case, a duel between two unnamed men in what appears to be a post-apocalyptic world. I think this sci-fi short would work best as part of a full-length film. As it stands, we know nothing about the characters-who they are or why they're engaged in this high-tech standoff. I don't know... maybe it was created to pitch a concept for a larger project. Or maybe it was just made for fun. All in all, I actually liked some of the futuristic weapons that were featured.
