One day, the rich and unhappy Herr Herzinger discovers a child's wish list in his garden. Touched by the little boy's wishes, he goes in search of the child's family, finds what he is looking for in a playground and an idea begins to grow: what if the child's parents or other parents could be supported in finding each other turn more to the happiness that the children so long for? Herr Herzinger and his servant Herr Wagner put the idea into practice and make an irresistible offer to Ines, the boy's mother, as well as Firat and Jasper: If the three of them try to become happier for a year, they will each get a million - no matter how it goes. Ines, Firat and Jasper have to digest this offer first.

Ines, Firat and Jasper decide to accept Herr Herzinger's offer - they want to spend a year trying to be happier in order to end up pocketing a million. The crux of the matter is that all three must remain involved and no one but the "gamblers" may find out anything about it. The first obligatory meetings take place and the three start their sometimes clumsy attempts to turn to happiness - which does not go unnoticed by the partners Natascha, Simone and Max .

Natascha, Simone and Max got wind of the fact that their partners practice being happy for a year in order to end up receiving a million from Herr Herzinger. Meanwhile, the "gamblers" are in crisis mode: actuary Jasper continues to be bullied at work, Firat gets in trouble when he wants to end his forced love affair with Ms. Unger and Ines is offered a position as a lawyer in Brussels, which means that her husband Max, who would then have to put his music career on the back burner, doesn't like it at all.

Trying to be happier is still not as easy as expected: Ines gives Firat out as her husband at a meal with her boss in need - which only almost ends well. The real husband Max is about to embark on a promising tour with musician Clara. Firat's wife Natascha finds out about Firat's affair with Frau Unger and is now also making herself more independent. A tragic accident happens at Jasper's place of work. The chaos is perfect.

Jasper lost his job and is now more at home. Now he can at least take care of his son and the little dog that has happened to him while Simone works as a doctor again. But not everyone has happy moments: Unfortunately, Firat does not yet have the million and has to sell his company due to lack of money. Max plays one gig after the other while Ines' promotion has fallen through, with at least one positive consequence - that she takes care of her children again.

Ines, Firat and Jasper seem to be at the end of their tether: Firat will lose not only his company but also his house if his wife Natascha doesn't intervene inventively. Ines has almost given up their relationship when her husband Max comes home from his tour. The big luck of Jasper and family, the little dog, stupidly seems to belong to Mrs. Unger ... and last but not least Mr. Herzinger gambles. Everything is in question and the million at the end even more so. One can only guess what that means for happiness.
