Black Canary was cool. Batman: The Animated Series (Btas) is the definitive Batman in my book. Put the two together and you’ve got amazing potential. Paul Dini, one of the writers for Btas, talked about this with Cbr recently mentioning that the reason Black Canary wasn’t introduced was to feature Robin in more episodes. Dini states:
.Yeah, the Black Canary/Catwoman episode was a casualty. They [Fox] wanted more Robin in the series, and each time we wanted to drop him from a story, we had to fight for it. Not that we had anything against Robin, we just wanted to stretch now and then and do solo Batman stories or episodes that focused mainly on Gordon or the villains. After the experimentation of the first season, the network felt we might be leaving the boys behind, so we got the edict, add more Robin. Other than that, there...

When Batman: The Brave and the Bold debuted on Cartoon Network back in 2008, many fans were understandably hesitant when it came to seeing a lighter take on the Caped Crusader than had been witnessed in animation for some time. But lo and behold, said animated series found much success throughout the course of its three seasons by retaining the tongue-in-cheek nature of the TV show starring Adam West and utilizing the vastness of the DC Universe in a way similar to Justice League Unlimited. Really, it’s no wonder why some felt it rivaled Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond in terms of quality.
Since its cancellation in 2011, none of us thought we’d ever be seeing the Hammers of Justice again, especially since no direct-to-video movie swiftly followed the series finale. Now, six years later, the folks at Warner Bros. Animation have decided to dust off the franchise...

In case you didn't know, this week marks the 25th Anniversary of Batman: The Animated Series! I can't believe that it's been that long since this amazing series aired. It's considered by many to be one of the best-animated series of all time, which I won't argue with because it is.
Today we have some really cool early character design work to show you that has surfaced online that was created by artist Kevin Nowlan. He was brought in early in the development process to help craft the look of the series. He worked alongside Bruce Timm, Eric Radomski, and the rest of the team. Looking at this art, it's not hard to see the influence that he had on the series.
The character designs here include Batman, Man-Bat, Joker, Penguin, Killer Croc, Robin, Catwoman, Ridler, Ra's al Ghul, Talia, and Commissioner Gordon. The art comes from 13th Dimension and they interviewed the artist.

Actress Margot Robbie, aka 'Harley Quinn' in "Suicide Squad", has signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros. to produce new films including the developing feature, "Gotham City Sirens", showcasing more of DC Comics' female 'anti-heroes':
'Harleen Frances Quinzel' aka 'Harley Quinn' was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, debuting in "Batman: The Animated Series" (1992).
The character later appeared in DC Comics' "Batman" comic books, debuting in "The Batman Adventures" #12 (1993)
"...in 'Suicide Squad' flashbacks reveal that psychiatrist 'Dr. Harleen Quinzel' fell in love with the psychopathic supervillain 'Joker', during his time as her patient at 'Arkham Asylum'.
"Joker manages to convince Dr. Quinzel to free him, and after his men take over the asylum, he gives her electroshock therapy.
"Quinzel then willingly jumps into chemicals that created Joker, at the 'Ace Chemicals' plant, bleaching her skin and completing her transformation into 'Harley Quinn'.

Flashpoint is the new name for The Flash movie, it's been confirmed...
It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend that the Flash movie is now called Flashpoint and will adapt Geoff Johns' famous and controversial storyline, which saw Barry Allen go back in time to save his mother from being killed by Reverse-Flash. The change had huge ramifications for the future of the DC Universe, altering many things and eventually leading to a brand new timeline known as the New 52 in the comics.

While that's unlikely to happen here, it could allow for a refresh of some of the more controversial elements of the Dceu. More importantly, though, this opens the door to a significant number of potential superheroic guest stars.

Bryce Dallas Howard has become the latest celebrity to engage in the proud tradition of teasing comic book movie fans, as recent tweets have them excited at the possibility of her playing Poison Ivy in the upcoming “Gotham City Sirens.” Created in 2009 by “Batman: The Animated Series” mastermind Paul Dini, “Gotham City Sirens” features Poison Ivy, Catwoman and Harley Quinn, as they band together to protect themselves in an increasingly unstable Gotham City. Margot Robbie is slated to return to the role of Harley, with “Suicide Squad” director David Ayer in charge of the project. But Catwoman and Ivy...

Well, it’s about time. For the last twenty-five years or so, we’ve had one animated Batman series after another but to be honest only two are really good: Batman the Animated Series and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The latter has been slowly coming out on Blu-Ray with season one in 2013 and season two in 2015. This month, we’re getting the third and final season and the good news is that it is as entertaining as remembered.
After increasingly odd interpretations of Batman, Warner Animation decided to go retro and bring back the Batman of the 1960s, who was not afraid to operate in daylight and would partner with just about anyone in a mask as the need arose. Producer James Tucker saw to it that it honored the comic the series took its name from while modernizing it with contemporary characters and characterizations. The result was...

The movie, TV show, cartoon and comic references of The Lego Batman Movie...
This article contains major The Lego Batman Movie spoilers.
Holy plastic building blocks, Batman! Almost everything really was awesome about The Lego Batman Movie. After years of dark nights and grim glares at other superheroes, the newest adventure of the Caped Crusader, as voiced by Will Arnett’s perfectly overdone gravel, was a breath of fresh air. Not afraid to let Batman’s sidekicks have fun - even if our cantankerous main guy still prefers to wear only black and sing about “darkness” - The Lego Batman Movie is poised to entertain Bat-fans of all Bat-ages.
Still one of its best gags is its shameless (and relentless) use of references, cutaways, and in-jokes to overstuff its narrative with more meta-humor than the most unwieldy episode of Community. As a consequence, it’s easy to...

While director David Ayer and actress Margot Robbie are preparing their Gotham City Sirens film for Warner Bros., fans have already started casting the movie for them. I've seen a couple names popping up repeatedly, and they are for Emma Stone in the role of Poison Ivy and Eliza Dushku as Catwoman. I think they would both be decent choices in the role, but I seriously doubt that's the direction that Ayer and the studio are going to go. Regardless, BossLogic whipped up this cool fan art showing us what the actresses could look like in the roles.

Ever since Warner Bros. announced that they’d be moving ahead with their Harley Quinn spinoff in the form of Gotham City Sirens, the internet has been awash in fan art featuring almost every young actress in Hollywood in the roles of Catwoman and Poison Ivy. Of course, the studio hasn’t given us any hints at all about who may eventually be cast, but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating.
Following up on some interesting fan art that saw Megan Fox in the role of Poison Ivy, which generated a fair amount of buzz, we now have another batch of photos and these ones feature Emma Stone as the iconic Batman villain along with Eliza Dushku as Catwoman. The art comes to us from Twitter user BossLogic, who’s clearly quite talented with Photoshop, as the images in the gallery below can attest to.

The DC Extended Universe will bring more Batman villains to the big screen. But there are a few we've already seen who deserve a second go.
Batman has, pretty arguably, the strongest rogues’ gallery of any comic-book hero. Sure, Spider-Man has a few great villains, and Superman has an iconic enemy in Lex Luthor, but these struggle to compare to the brilliance of Batman's diverse range of enemies. From the chaotic evil of the Joker to the fantastical shape-shifting of Clayface, the Dark Knight's villains give him plenty of reasons to use his detective skills as much as his fists.
Over the years, in the big-screen adaptations we've been treated to (or tormented with), filmmakers have struggled to do Batman's villains justice. We could argue that the World's Greatest Detective himself has been under-served, but his enemies have arguably received a rougher deal in their cinematic incarnations.

Contained within that comment section were some of the most violent assassinations of the female gender that I’ve ever seen. No one could have predicted the firestorm that would haunt this film. On the surface, Ghostbusters is merely a new addition to an old franchise that general audiences may -- or may not -- be familiar with. So how has this little comedy ignited an international firestorm? I was one of those not much interested in a reboot, remake, or sequel in the franchise. Dan Aykroyd had been teasing the prospect for so many years that eventually it felt best to just leave well enough...

Telltale seem to have every licence under the sun these days, ranging from adaptions from the Fables series of comics to Jurassic Park, Game of Thrones and more. 2016 will see the studio taking on Batman of all characters as well, which is not without its own gargantuan expectations.
Indeed, with the studio working on so many different titles simultaneously, it’s a wonder they haven’t managed to crumble under their own weight. However, out of all their choices yet, The Dark Knight feels the most befitting of a point and click narrative.
After all, the character has an iconic 75 year history to boast of, and that brings with it a whole host of source material for developers to mess around with and take inspiration from – hopefully more effectively than in the Caped Crusader’s most recent video game adventure. Warner Bros and DC Entertainment's first trailer for Suicide Squad landed this week. More than any other character featured, it's Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn that has been positioned as the star of the show (sorry, Will Smith).
Harley has become one of Batman's most popular villains since she first appeared in the '90s, and has a surprisingly complex and tragic backstory. Here's everything you need to know to get you up to speed:
A Mad Love
Harley has a unique origin for a comic book character in that she wasn't originally a comic book character at all. She was first seen in Paul Dini and Bruce Timm's much-loved Batman: The Animated Series in the 1992 episode 'The Joker's Favour' as one of the titular villain's henchpeople, dressed in a harlequin outfit and sporting a piercing New York accent courtesy of actress Arleen Sorkin.

Many of us are familiar with talented actor Eliza Dushku for her work in Joss Whedon‘s Dollhouse, Angel, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but she has also done a fair amount of voice work for animated productions including shorts (DC Showcase: Catwoman), webcomics (Torchwood: Web of Lies), and video games (Saints Row 2).
Now IGN is reporting that she will be voicing She-Hulk in Disney Xd’s upcoming Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. . Actor Adrian Pasdar (Heroes) has revealed that he has been working with her on the show. Pasdar is voicing the character of Tony Stark/Iron Man (he voices the character for the Ultimate Spiderman Disney Xd series) and will be guesting as that character on the Hulk series.
No date has yet been announced for the premiere of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. on Disney Xd.

Hot on the heels of the release of Batman: Year One, we’ve got a steamy interview with legendary Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy. You’re probably wondering how a voice actor interview can be steamy. Well, Conroy takes it there. When asked about his scenes with Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse, upcoming Ghostbusters III) – who voices Catwoman, both in Year One and in the DC Showcase: Catwoman short – Conroy reinacts some of his earlier “grunts” and “groans” in the booth with voice director Andrea Romano. Conroy also discusses work on Batman: Arkham City as well as his next Warner Bros Animated movie, Justice League: Doom. If you’re a fan...
