Dabbling in narrative filmmaking in-between his many documentaries, it was recently announced Werner Herzog was in production on his first animated feature, The Twilight World, based on his 2021 novel of the same name. Now we have another narrative project to add to his slate, one that comes with quite the intrigue in both cast and synopsis.
For the first time ever, Rooney and Kate Mara will star in a film together, Deadline reports. They’ll lead Herzog’s Bucking Fastard, which he is writing and directing. The film is based on the true story of inseparable twin sisters Joan and Jean, drawing from the lives of Freda and Greta Chaplin, who became sexually infatuated with their next-door neighbor and eventually received a restraining order. The title of the film, which begins production this spring in Ireland and Slovenia, is based on a simultaneous verbal slip the twins made in court.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Law & Order: Svu season 26, episode 9, "First Light."
This article contains references to drug-facilitated sexual assault and to a graphic real-life crime of this nature.
Law & Order: Svu season 26, episode 9, "First Light," was based on the chilling real-life Gisèle Pelicot case. Many cases in the Law & Order franchise are based on real-life crimes. Law & Order: Svu's creepiest cases tend to be ripped from the headlines. Sometimes the series changes details, making it less obvious who the story is based on, Other episodes are more thinly disguised fictionalizations of shocking cases. The series does its best to be sensitive to real-life victims and avoid retraumatizing them through its stories, though it sometimes uses real-life quotes as dialogue.

For those looking for an ending to one of the most contentious Batman stories ever created, even an iconic writer couldn't salvage it. All-Star Batman and Robin remains one of the most controversial stories ever to feature the Dark Knight and it was this close to being wrapped up by a surprising writer.
During an interview with ComicPop Returns on YouTube, Tom King spoke with host Sal Crivelli to discuss his then-recent work with DC Comics such as Rorschach and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. King touched on several subjects, from his relationships with the artists of his stories to his influences as a writer.
Towards the end of the interview, the two discuss Frank Miller and Jim Lee's work on All-Star Batman and Robin. King dances around the subject, but he does mention that at one point, he was hired to write four issues to wrap up the controversial Batman story.

I hate to say this, but Law & Order: Svu is falling far short this season.
This has been my favorite show for decades. It’s the show that inspired me to write my own stories for and about survivors.
But this season, something is missing from Law & Order: Svu despite the fuller cast and some episodes that are worth a second look.
(NBC?Ralph Bavaro)
Contrary to showrunner David Graziano’s promise, Law & Order: Svu has not gone back to basics, and that’s what’s most disappointing about it.
If he hadn’t made that promise, maybe I’d be more positive about this season. The stories aren’t bad, for the most part, and the new character is enjoyable — when she’s actually featured.

Donald Trump scored a decisive win this week, and the cast of Saturday Night Live wants him to know… they had his back the whole time!
This Saturday’s post-election episode kicked off with SNL cast members Bowen Yang, Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson and Heidi Gardner somberly facing the camera and recounting Trump’s victory, adding that many Americans found it “shocking and even horrifying,” and now Trump has “no guardrails” keeping him from taking vengeance on his political enemies. So, as Thompson put it, they want to make one thing clear to the newly elected Trump: “We have been with you all along.

I’ve always found it curious how the Found Footage genre’s greatest weakness is also its greatest strength, with the same realistic formatting that allows for deeply immersive thrills also being responsible for the massive sea of low-effort cash-grabs that gives Pov filmmaking a bad name. That’s why it’s so hard for Found Footage flicks to stand out these days, as it can be hard for viewers to justify paying for what will likely be just another Paranormal Activity rip-off.
However, there are some clever filmmakers who have managed to circumvent this issue by making their movies available online for free, trusting that the quality of their work will eventually lead to more lucrative endeavors. And with Curry Barker’s surprisingly effective Milk & Serial going viral on YouTube, we’ve decided to make a list celebrating six other Found Footage flicks that you can check out on YouTube for free!

Rorschach's popularity stems from his unhinged nature, meant to reflect trauma with every other observation or line of dialogue. Leading to some incredible quotes throughout the series. With the line between his civilian identity and his vigilante persona, Rorschach's psyche is as broken and fluid as his iconic mask. Despite his brutal methods, and twisted view of the world and its people, Rorschach's final act showed a desire for noble sacrifice.
In 1986, Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons released Watchmen, a DC Comics series designed to deconstruct the superhero genre using analogs for the Charlton Comics heroes. Set in an alternate history where vigilantes participated in the Vietnam War and Richard Nixon was elected to a third term, the series combines dystopia with murder mystery. Beginning with the death of Edward Blake, it follows Rorschach through his investigation.

Tom Cruise is easily one of the biggest Hollywood stars of all time. Even though he has been in the industry for over four decades, he is still sought after by the best directors to star in their projects. The actor himself exerts his influence too, often to bring out the best in him, and his decisions have always paid off.
However, he does not always get his way, as Zack Snyder recently revealed. The director confessed that he wanted the Mission: Impossible actor to play a certain character in one of his films, but Cruise sought a different role.

There has been a resurgence of crime-investigation thrillers in Malayalam cinema. The past films, such as Cbi: Our Diary Kurippu (1988) and Anjaam Paathiraa (2020), have paved the way for some interesting stories about serial killers, following the investigation path chosen by the leads in the film. Rorschach, which was released in 2022, also provided insight on how certain revenge stories can be executed. Directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas, the 2024 film tells the story of a tormented insomniac police officer who works to keep his thoughts at bay and finds himself embroiled in an interesting murder case.

In the trailer for only his third directorial feature, filmmaker Zack Snyder was heralded with the title of “visionary.” In retrospect, you might label that many things: aspirational, hubris, or just plain, good old-fashioned marketing copy. Whatever the case might be, it had a point. Love or hate Snyder’s aesthetic, his films are visually and instantly recognizable, and they’ve found a fervent audience that is still tens of millions strong more than a decade after this sizzle reel.
But all that would come later. Back in 2009, the moniker was adorned on Snyder during the marketing push for Watchmen, the ambitious and sprawling attempt to turn Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ most influential graphic novel from the 1980s into a three-hour film (or about two hours and 45 minutes in the case of the original theatrical cut). The film could never lose points for daring, but it was analyzed mercilessly...

DC movies have always incorporated humor and jokes into their stories, despite being known for their mythical portrayal of superheroes. Moments like Hal Jordan's unconvincing disguise in Green Lantern and Rorschach's dark comedy in Watchmen still hold up well. From Batman's dry one-liners to Shazam's endearing joke, DC movies have consistently delivered funny and memorable moments throughout their history.

She then surprised the audience as the formidable madame of a shady brothel in ‘Soothradharan’.Bindu Panicker in RorschachWhen this writer told a friend that Bindu Panicker’s filmography lists roughly 250 films since her debut in Kamaladalam (1992), he pointed out that it was a dismally low number if you compare that to her male counterparts. Even more so, considering her astonishing range and talent. If one were to draw a career chart of the 55-year-old actor, they would find that her progression is staggeringly consistent not only as a performer, but as someone who has casually reinvented herself at crucial junctures in her career. Bindu, however, rarely got the opportunities or scripts to flex her craft like her male contemporaries. Or let’s just say she probably couldn’t afford the work flexibility of male...

Marvel/DC crossovers are a rare occurrence these days, but one recent Spider-Man comic managed to sneak in a hidden cameo from Watchmen’s Rorschach. The violent vigilante made an appearance in Spider-Man: Life Story #3, appearing as an extra in a crowd scene.
There has long been a grand tradition in comics for characters to “unofficially” cross over into other publisher’s titles. Many who enter the comics field started out as fans, so once they are able to create their own stories about the characters they grew up loving, the temptation to include fun little cameos referencing other works is often strong. Whether it's the time an Aquaman story was finished in Marvel’s Namor or the frequent appearances of an unnamed Clark Kent and Lois Lane in Walt Simonson’s run on Thor, comics history is filled with such unofficial crossovers. And in the case of Spider-Man: Life Story,...

A unique piece of fan art for Joker: Folie à Deux, inspired by the Rorschach test, imagines Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn in the upcoming DC sequel. Joker: Folie à Deux will see director Todd Phillips continue the story of Arthur Fleck, played by Joaquin Phoenix. First introduced in 2019's Joker, Phoenix starred as an aspiring stand-up comedian, as the film's run time followed Fleck's transformation into the Joker. The film, which also starred Robert De Niro and Zazie Beetz, earned Phoenix the Best Actor award at the 2020 Academy Awards.
Now fan art imagines Phoenix's new co-star Lady Gaga in a stunning piece inspired by the Rorschach inkblot test. Walter Kovacs isn't the only person to take on the mantle of Rorschach in the world of Watchmen. However, the brief stint of Rorschach's replacement may have revealed the hidden superpower that's kept the original one alive as long as he's been.
Of all the heroes in Watchmen, one of the most dedicated to their work is the brutal, street-level detective Rorschach. Though he spends his days walking among the people, disguised as a simple, shabbily-dressed man bandying a foreboding sign, Rorschach is actually one of the most intimidating costumed adventurers around. Criminals all across the city of New York fear Rorschach, due to his intense intimidation tactics and his eerie tolerance of pain. No matter what is thrown at the vigilante, Rorschach pushes through until he gets what he's looking for. Though he's nearly met his maker dozens of times, it's all just another day for Watchmen's iconic hero.

It seems that the fate of Rorschach in Watchmen all boils down to one decision that even the vigilante himself regrets. Before Watchmen: Rorschach reveals a road not taken for Walter Kovacs, one that could have deterred the hero from the path he ultimately went down.
The story of Rorschach is not a very happy one. Born Walter Kovacs, the son of a sex-worker and a man who abandoned him, Kovacs was routinely abused in his youth by his mother and ostracized by his community. Walter decided to become a vigilante after hearing about the gruesome murder of Kitty Genovese, adopting a new 'face' to distance himself from humanity. For nearly twenty years, Kovacs operated as Rorschach, even after costumed adventurers were outlawed via the Keene Act. Unfortunately, Rorschach was murdered by Doctor Manhattan to keep Ozymandias' false flag mass murder a secret and keep the world from nuclear war.

In one of the most shocking reveals of Watchmen's world, it seems the superhero story also takes place in the world of Taxi Driver. Before Watchmen: Rorschach #3 features the title hero meeting a particularly notable character from Martin Scorsese's classic film.
Taxi Driver came out in 1976 and stars Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Cybil Shepherd, and Harvey Keitel. The story centers around De Niro, who portrays Travis Bickle, a former marine who returns to New York and takes up a job as a late-night taxi driver. As Bickle works his job, the sleaze and decay of New York City disgusts him, causing him to take matters into his own hands to clean the city up. The movie was critically lauded and remains a cornerstone of director Martin Scorsese's career. However, the film was also criticized for its use of graphic violence, as well as its frank sexual themes.

Rorschach is one of the most unsettling characters in the Watchmen story, but he nearly had a much more perturbing appearance. A glimpse at Walter Kovacs' earliest design shows fans just how much creepier the vigilante could have looked without his final tweaks.
The superhero deconstruction series Watchmen is filled with a number of men and women who adopted costumed identities and find themselves drawn into a murder-mystery as the world is on the brink of nuclear war. Arguably the most iconic hero to come out of the series is the most feared vigilante on the streets of New York City, Rorschach. Also known as Walter Kovacs, Rorschach is a street sleuth who isn't afraid to brutalize criminals in order to get what he needs in order to solve a case. His methods, creepy demeanor and lack of personal hygiene makes him one of the more off-putting of Watchmen's heroes.

It's no secret that Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan appears throughout most of the series stark naked, but why is that exactly? A close examination of Jon Osterman's history with clothes reveals why Manhattan decided to bare it all to the world.
The outlandish world of Watchmen may be one filled with superheroes, but few actual superpowers are there to be found. One of the few characters who indeed possesses superhuman abilities is Doctor Manhattan. After being accidentally locked in an intrinsic field test chamber, Jon was destroyed, but his consciousness survived, and he was able to reassemble his body. Jon became Doctor Manhattan, a government-backed superhero and a walking symbol of America's nuclear capabilities. However, with the outlawing of superheroes due to the Keene Act, Jon's efforts were redirected towards research and development of new technologies for the world.

MollywoodWe list some, sadly rather few in number, well-written women characters in grey in Malayalam cinema who stuck to their guns till the end.Neelima MenonBindu Panicker as Seetha in RorschachKanchana’s eyes darken with desire as she stares at her sister-in-law’s karimani (black beads) chain. She hungrily tugs at the chain, describing its artistry at length to her awkward sister-in-law. When she is gifted a sari by her sister-in-law, she is torn between greed and jealousy, eventually succumbing to the latter emotion. Kanchana is an ordinary homemaker with lofty ambitions for material things, which her husband isn’t able to fulfil. At a time when the leading women in cinema were always divided into binaries, i.e., good or bad, Kanchana in Sathyan Anthikad’s Thalayanamanthram (1990) is a startling revelation. At least to begin with, more so because of the sublime nuances actor Urvashi lends to Kanchana. What...

As the sequel finally begins to make progress, Watchmen's Rorschach actor Jackie Earle Haley says that Zack Snyder should return to make Man of Steel 2. After originally breaking out for his work in the original The Bad News Bears franchise and for his Oscar-nominated turn in 2006's Little Children, Haley found new stardom for his role in Snyder's adaptation of Alan Moore's Watchmen as Walter Kovacs, better known as Rorschach, a brutal antihero who acts as a legal outlaw following a government act preventing any vigilante activities. Haley scored widespread acclaim for his performance as Rorschach, namely for his gruff voice narrating the polarizing comic book adaptation.
Snyder would go onto continue his work in the comic book genre with Man of Steel, the Henry Cavill-led reboot of the Superman movie franchise that acted as the launching point for the DC Extended Universe. Though seeing a similarly polarizing reception as Watchmen,...

Comic legend Alan Moore isn't holding back his thoughts and feelings on fans of Watchmen's Rorschach. In a candid interview with GQ, the creator of the lauded superhero deconstruction addressed the unintentional following Rorschach has developed in recent years.
Watchmen came from creators Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons and follows a group of several superheroes who find themselves drawn into a deep mystery at the height of the Cold War. After the government-backed hero Comedian is killed, his death is investigated by fellow costumed adventurer Rorschach. In the years since the original series' publication, Rorschach has been one of Watchmen's most notable heroes, partly due to his uncompromising principles and iconic black-and-white mask fashioned after the infamous psychological test. However, despite being held in high regard by certain fans, Rorschach is also one of the book's most criticized characters. In the past, even Watchmen writer Alan Moore has expressed confusion at Rorschach's appeal.
