In May 2022, exactly a month after the first season of Heartstopper premiered on Netflix, the coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama received a rare two-season renewal by the streamer. Almost five months after Season 3, the last of the two installments under that deal, dropped on Oct. 3, there is still no word from Netflix on the future of Heartstopper as another half-hour series, No Good Deed, also awaits a renewal decision two and a half months after its Netflix debut.

The streamer’s semi-annual What We Watched viewership data report released today provides more context to the series’ performance beyond Netflix’s weekly Top 10 rankers that may be factoring into the renewal conversations.

Season 3 of Heartstopper amassed 10.9M views from its Oct. 3 release until the end of 2024 to rank #130 among all of Netflix’s programs from June to December last year, according to the report. The show spent two weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10, peaking at #4, vs.

An interesting new rumor from insider Jeff Sneider suggests that actress Linda Cardellini might be in final talks to play Pamela Voorhees in the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake.

According to the report from TheInSneider, Cardellini is close to closing a deal to play the mother of the iconic slasher villain Jason Voorhees. Blue Bloods has concluded its run, and it’s a shame we didn’t get any of these spinoff ideas!

For fourteen seasons, fans made Blue Bloods one of the biggest hits on CBS. Usually, when a CBS show is that successful and runs so long, it’s only natural they try to make it a franchise. We’ve seen it with NCIS, FBI, and even Fire Country.

Which is why it’s amazing that in all that time, CBS never tried a Blue Bloods spinoff. It’s remarkable that they couldn’t find a way to plan some offshoot show, maybe not on the Reagans but connected to that universe. It’s not like they didn’t have plenty of ideas given the long list of characters and possible storylines.

From a couple of the main characters to some recurring or new ones, the spinoff potential was larger than what fans might think.

Paramount+’s Landman continued its upward trajectory in the first few days of 2025, hitting its best viewing-time mark so far in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Squid Game had a second straight huge week for Netflix as well.

The Korean hit drew just under 4.6 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Dec. 30-Jan. 5, topping the 4 billion mark again a week after its season two premiere. The series fell by less than 7 percent week-to-week from the 4.92 billion minutes it had for its long-awaited return.

Landman snagged 1.3 billion minutes of watch time in the week leading up to its ninth episode. The Taylor Sheridan series, starring Billy Bob Thornton, has improved its totals in every week since it first hit the rankings in late November.

Nearly 30 years after the release of the ’90s cult hit film “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion,” stars Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino are in talks to return for a legacyquel produced by 20th Century Studios.

Released in 1997, the film follows a pair of 29-year-olds who realize they haven’t done much with their lives since graduating high school, and decide to make up a story that they struck it rich after inventing Post-it Notes. The film was released by Touchstone Pictures, a release label established by Disney for films aimed at adult audiences.

With the acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, Disney now has that studio and its specialty counterpart Searchlight Pictures to fill the role once held by Touchstone. Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion is getting a sequel with Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow in final talks to reprise their roles from the 1997 film.

The pair of actresses will also executive produce, and Tim Federle is attached to direct.

Production is eyeing a June start date, potentially in Los Angeles.

The reunion of all reunions was teased back in November 2024 when Sorvino told People that a deal had been made with a director and that she and Kudrow were on board as Eps. Then Kudrow shared in January the update that a “really good” script had been written.

Original scribe Robin Schiff returned to pen the sequel film. She has recently been behind Netflix’s hit series Emily in Paris as an executive producer and showrunner. Veteran producer Laurence Marks will also return after his work on the original film.

A sequel to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion is moving ahead at 20th Century Studios, with Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow in negotiations to reprise their starring roles. The pair will also serve as executive producers.

The Season 2 debut of “Squid Game” boosted the Netflix series to reach the biggest weekly streaming audience any show has seen in 2024, according to Nielsen’s streaming charts.

With the second installment debuting Dec. 26 on Netflix, “Squid Game” drew 4.92 billion minutes over its two seasons in the interval between Dec. 23 to Dec. 29. Viewership for “Squid Game” was more than double that of Netflix’s “Virgin River,” which scored a whopping 2.25 billion viewing minutes as the second most-watched streaming program of the week.

Dwayne Johnson-led “Red One” also scored an impressive streaming viewership as the holiday movie scored 1.81 billion viewing minutes on Prime Video during the week, clocking in as the third most-watched program of the week. The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.

The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”

On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.

The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

The GLAAD Media Awards is a yearly event that honors outstanding, accurate and inclusive representations of LGBTQ+ people and issues in film, television, gaming, publishing, stage productions, music, journalism and more.

“The GLAAD Media Awards were created nearly four decades ago to champion LGBTQ stories amid a deeply hostile and unsafe time for our community,” said GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.

“Wicked,” “Queer,” “Mean Girls” and “My Old Ass” are among the movies that have been nominated as Outstanding Film at the 36th annual GLAAD Media Awards, which announced its nominations on Wednesday. Other nominated projects included “Cuckoo,” “Drive-Away Dolls,” “Love Lies Bleeding” and “Problemista.”

GLAAD, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer media advocacy organization, leaned heavily toward smaller independent films in its nominations, with “Wicked” and “Mean Girls” the most high-profile films in the top category. It did not nominate “Emilia Pérez,” the Netflix film about a Mexican drug lord (played by transgender actress Karla Sofía Gascón) who undergoes gender-affirming surgery.

Television nominees included “Abbott Elementary,” “Hacks,” “Loot” and “Shrinking” in the comedy category, “9-1-1: Lone Star,” “Arcane” and “Interview With the Vampire” in drama and “Agatha All Along,” “Diarra From Detroit” and “Palm Royale” in the Outstanding New Series category.

But the noms don’t include one of the most talked-about films of 2024 or its trans star. More on that below.

Vying for the Outstanding Wide-Release Film prize are Cuckoo, Drive-Away Dolls, Love Lies Bleeding, Mean Girls, My Old Ass, Problemista, Queer and Wicked. Up for the Limited-Release Film award are 20,000 Species of Bees, Backspot, Before I Change My Mind, Big Boys, Close to You, Crossing, Fitting In, High Tide, Housekeeping for Beginners and A Place of Our Own.

Two original songs will be added to Wicked: For Good, but these won't do much to level out this sequel's disadvantage. Director Jon M. Chu chose to split the Wicked musical into two parts for his on-screen adaptation, ensuring that every detail of Elphaba and Glinda's stories is done justice. While this proved to be an excellent choice for the first film, the second half, officially called Wicked: For Good, is at a bit of a disadvantage thanks to some differences in the Broadway musical's second act. The addition of new songs is promising, but there is one particular issue that this won't help.

Many of Wicked's most notable songs are in the Broadway show's first act. While there are certainly some bangers in Act 2, such as "No Good Deed" and "For Good," they pack a different sort of punch than "Defying Gravity" or "What Is This Feeling.

The Traitors is becoming more than just a cult favorite.

The competition series opened its third season with its largest viewing numbers to date: It registered 499 million minutes of viewing on Peacock for the week of Jan. 6-12, based on preliminary Nielsen streaming figures. Season three premiered on Jan. 9. (Nielsen’s streaming figures include all episodes of a show, so some of that time came from prior seasons.)

That’s a series high for The Traitors, whose previous best showing in Nielsen’s streaming ratings was 402 million minutes the week after its season two premiere in January 2024. It’s also the best premiere week for any Peacock unscripted series to date and was the top unscripted show in the United States last week across all platforms.

Full streaming ratings for Jan. 6-12 from Nielsen will be released in a few weeks, per the ratings service’s agreement with streaming platforms.

Lisa Kudrow is sharing an update on the Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion sequel that is in the works.

The No Good Deed star is set to reprise her role as Michele Weinberger opposite Mira Sorvino in a sequel to the 1997 comedy.

“We’re as close as we’ve ever been,” Kudrow said on The Drew Barrymore Show. “There’s a script that’s really good, [by] Robin Schiff.”

Barrymore, a fan of the film, added, “Oh my God, I just got chills. I really did,” with Kudrow noting, “So it’ll happen, I mean, we’ll see.”

In the same interview on the daytime talk show, Kudrow revealed that the film was based on a play by Schiff, saying, “So they had to do a backers audition for the play to see if they could even mount the play. And they went to all the [acting] teachers, ‘Who do you recommend to audition?...

‘Twas the season to be thrilled with action. As people settled in and got cozy with their kith and kin this past Christmas, sometimes watching classics like Home Alone, A Christmas Story and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation just isn’t enough. Prime Video’s Red One and Netflix’s Carry-On both had big opening weeks in streaming, with Red One coming out on top in Nielsen’s charts.

Christmas-themed action comedy Red One, which the Amazon streamer touted as its biggest worldwide premiere to date, racked up 2.1 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Dec. 9-15. (The movie, starring Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson, also had a short theatrical run, making about $186 million worldwide at the box office.)

Carry-On, meanwhile, scored 1.69 billion minutes of viewing for Netflix for the week, albeit with one fewer day: It premiered on Dec. 13, while Red One began streaming Dec. 12 on Prime Video. The thriller starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman is currently in Netflix’s top five English-language films to date (as measured over the first 91 days of release).

A pair of Christmas movies topped Nielsen’s overall U.S. streaming ranking for the week of Dec. 9.

Prime Video’s 123-minute Red One landed at No. 1 on the overall chart with 2.1 billion minutes viewed. It was followed by Netflix’s 117-minute Carry-On, which had nearly 1.7 billion minutes viewed.

It’s looking like Amazon’s bet on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Chris Evans paid off. Prime Video’s “Red One” secured 2.1 billion minutes in the second week of December, topping Nielsen’s list of the Top 10 overall most streamed shows and movies. “Red One” is now the most-watched Prime Video movie to place on Nielsen’s Top 10.

Adults aged 35-to-64 accounted for 54% of viewing for the title during the week that ran from Dec. 9 to Dec. 15. The Christmas action flick also stands as the second Prime Video title to surpass 2 billion minutes behind “Fallout.” The apocalyptic dramedy starring Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins saw 2.9 billion and 2.6 billion minutes in consecutive weeks last April.

Harlan Coben's brand-new 2025 Netflix thriller has found itself at the top of the streaming platform's global charts. The American author is one of the most successful mystery-thriller writers in the world, having written more than 30 novels that have collectively sold more than 60 million copies worldwide. 12 of Coben's novels have been adapted for the screen, including The Five, which aired on Sky 1 in the UK, and the one-season hit Shelter, which aired on Prime Video. Coben's stories are known for their mix of interpersonal drama with thriller elements.

Back in 2018, Coben signed a multi-million-dollar, five-year deal with Netflix, under which 14 of his novels would be adapted for the streaming platform across different territories and languages. His debut Netflix show was Michael C. Hall's mystery thriller Safe in May 2018. The psychological thriller series featured the story of a widower father whose daughter goes missing, leading him to discover dark truths.

“Wicked” is continuing its blockbuster run in theaters and awards season, and fans can’t wait for more.

After topping Netflix’s charts last week with 68 million views in four days — Netflix’s biggest TV debut ever — the season picked up another 58.2 million views in its first full week of availability. That brings it to a total of 126.2 million views total across 11 days, more than any Netflix series has ever achieved in that amount of time.

“Squid Game” Season 2 immediately cracked Netflix’s list of its most popular non-English-language series last week, but this week it jumped from No. 7 to No. 2. Only “Squid Game” Season 1 still outpaces it, having achieved 265.2 million views in its first 91 days of streaming, but Season 2 appears likely to outpace it, having 80 days left to continue accumulating views.

Naturally, the season was the most-watched English-language series of the week of Dec. 30 to Jan. 5 — as well as the most Netflix title of the week overall.
