Episode #1.1

Jonathan and his wife Claire are splitting up, only he refused to accept the situation.

I saw the super high scores for this show, and thought it was going to be a scream fest, let's just say it isn't.

Romesh appeared in that Lee Mack comedy, Semi Detached, I see that's been axed, maybe because The BBC have taken a vow of removing humour from comedies. What a shame that was axed, the budget clearly hasn't been well spent here.

I hate to say it, as I am a big fan of Romesh, but this was a very poor start, surely comedies are intended to have some humour? Jonathan is such a tragic figure, so sad, so in denial, the guy needs The Samaritans.

It's a comedy with a complete absence of humour.

I'll give the second episode a try, but it has to be better than this, it just wasn't good, 4/10.

Avoidance is meant to be a dramedy or a bittersweet comedy or a black comedy.

The word comedy does not apply. It is not funny, the whole thing was lousy.

Jonathan's (Romesh Ranganathan) marriage has fallen apart. Jonathan cannot accept it and face telling his son the bad news that his parents are splitting up.

So Jonathan runs away with his son to stay with his lesbian sister.

You can guess that in post production the makers knew this was dreadful. They filled it with songs which was more entertaining than the script.

Jonathan is meant to be a loser everyman. Ranganathan is not a strong enough actor to do much with the character.

It does not have an interesting premise, there are no laughs, I did not like the characters, I will not be returning for the second episode.

A big problem is that this character is the opposite of the sort of 'attitude' we usually see from Romesh. Romesh is so funny when he is being himself, but this sad character is nothing like his usual performances. Watching a man in denial like this is not entertaining at all, and certainly nothing to laugh at.
