Shearing Gang

I am extremely disappointed by the constant portrayal of our industry as being made up of drunkards and no-hoper's. Peter and Elsie Lyons are past and present champions ,along with many others in New Zealand, of all that is good and great in this shearing industry that, still in the doldrums, returns close to a billion dollars to our economy each year. While nowadays this could be said of many industries, this industry's best have received knighthoods in recognition of their achievements and deserve a better portrayal than they are receiving in this series. The amount of driving after drinking seems to be a focus which I believe is insensitive to those lost in vehicular carnage and their families, and skewed in its portrayal of normalcy (I would contend that it would equal any sector of similar ages in our current addled society) Rachel Wilson's direction could ,I think be considered lazy in that the stories that are positive are right there however the focus seems to keep coming back to alcohol abuse in the guise of "fun" and failure (of job expectation) as normal. This is an affront to those of us that strive every day to uphold traditions of physical stamina,mental concentration,personal self-control,and workmanlike attributes necessary to perform at a level to remain considered professional shearing and wool handling staff and Rachel's writers Matt and Keith need to take a real good look at the accuracy in their portrayal of rural New Zealand in this series as I believe it has set back relations between shearers and farmers years which could have severe repercussions to the workforce in this depressed industry
