Edit
The actor Diogo Amaral (Pedro) used to date Vera Kolodzig (Beatriz). They have a son Mateus who went to Coimbra to see his father portraing the King.
The movie centers in the love story that has marked the history of Portugal, it is that of the forbidden love between the infant D. Pedro and Inês de Castro, lady-in-waiting to his wife D. Constança Manuel. Despite the marriage, Infante arranged romantic meetings with Inês in the gardens of Quinta das Lágrimas. After the death of D. Constança in 1345, D. Pedro began to live maritally with Inês, which ended up confronting King D. Afonso IV, his father, who vehemently condemned the relationship, and provoked strong disapproval from the court and of the people. For years, Pedro and Inês lived in Paços de Santa Clara, in Coimbra, with their three children. But the increasing censorship of the union by the court constantly put pressure on D. Afonso IV, who ended up having Inês de Castro murdered in January 1355. Mad with grief, Pedro led a revolt against the king, never forgiving his father for the murder of his daughter. loved. When he finally assumed the crown in 1357, D. Pedro had Inês' murderers arrested and killed, ripping out their hearts, earning him the nickname the Cruel. Later, swearing that he had secretly married Inês de Castro, D. Pedro imposed her recognition as queen of Portugal. In April 1360, he ordered the transfer of Inês de Coimbra's body to the Royal Monastery of Alcobaça, where he ordered the construction of two magnificent tombs, so that he could rest forever next to his eternal beloved. Thus the most captivating Portuguese love story would be immortalized in stone.
