Looking for Maria Sanchez (2013)

Trivia

Looking for Maria Sanchez

Edit
One of the locations was underneath the Brooklyn Bridge, a famous NY location for its beautiful views of the city. The crew had a small window to shoot the exteriors. On that day they encounter seven weddings on line to take pictures on the same spot. The crew had to get on line with all the grooms and brides to get their shot.
Rain was one of the biggest problems in the production. Production was plagued by some many mishaps that one of the production members offered to do a "cleansing" of the office. Producers look at each other like "OK" and gave the go ahead to the ritual, candles and flinging this thing around. Rain was scheduled for the next day. To everyone's surprise it was sunny the next day. Producers later found out that the office for 200 Cartas used to be a school for prepping dead bodies for funerals.
The director wrote the part of Raul specifically for Lin Manuel Miranda. Originally Lin Manuel wanted to do the role it but turned it down because of scheduling conflicts. By pure luck his schedule opened up for a few weeks and he was able to do the role.
200 Cartas is a romantic comedy but also a road movie. There were close to six company moves, over 150 actors including extras, cars, chase scenes, animals and beautiful views. All shot in Puerto Rico in 17 days.
The film was scheduled to shoot for 18 days. Out of all those, it probably rained for 14 days. The production also got hit with Hurricane Irene which delayed production for two days. Due to the rain there were a lot of delays, and also a lot mosquitoes. Lin Manuel Miranda came down with dengue fever that sent him to the hospital for a couple of days. As Lin was getting better Raoul Germain, the director of photography, came down with dengue fever as well. Knock on wood, both are "guerrilla". They got back on their feet and finished production.
