‘Khakee: The Bengal Chapter’ Cast And Characters Guide
Image
Netflix’s Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, the latest addition to Neeraj Pandey’s regional crime thriller franchise, will not impress you with its story beats or narrative twists—those are pretty predictable even for viewers who aren’t fans of the genre. The highlight, at least for folks who are somewhat familiar with the Bengali movie scene, is the talent pool of the series’ ensemble cast—comprised of the who’s who of the contemporary Bengali film industry. While the characterization is quite basic for a narrative that deals with the treacherous political landscape of West Bengal, some of the performances are memorable enough to warrant the series a watch.

Barun Roy, Played By Prasenjit Chatterjee

Bengali actor Prasenjit Chatterjee is considered the megastar of the industry, having acted in numerous Bengali movies since making his debut as a child actor in 1968. Reaching the peak of his popularity with mainstream,...

Arjun Rampal names filmmakers in his improvement as an actor
National award-winning actor-producer Arjun Rampal, who will soon to be seen in the upcoming web series titled The Final Call, says since he was a supermodel before entering Bollywood, initially filmmakers cast him in characters keeping only his "good looks" in mind. Talking about his career graph that has changed since 2008 with Rock On!, Arjun said, "At the start of my career, filmmakers had a limited vision of me, perhaps that is why I only got to play a millionaire or a boyfriend in a love triangle. Back in 2000, we were not working on bound scripts the way we are doing it today. Therefore, as an actor, I never got a chance to work on my characters which I started doing with films like Rock On!, The Last Lear, Inkaar and so on."

"I also think that working with some great filmmakers like Prakash Jha, Sudhir Mishra and a few...

Omg! One more remix, B-towns latest obession
"Oh God, one more remix?" Karan Johar rightfully asks in the reboot version of "Aankh Marey" in Simmba. Bollywood musicians are increasingly looking back at old tracks and pepping them up with a sprinkle of dance music and serving them to Bollywood buffs -- much to some people's joy and to some people's dismay.

The onset of 2019 has brought along one song recreation after another. "Aankh Marey", "Tere bin", "Chamma chamma", "Paisa yeh paisa" and the latest "Mungda", which was launched on Tuesday.

Singer Subhro J Ganguly, who has forayed into Bollywood with "Paisa yeh paisa" and "Mungda" from the upcoming film Total Dhamaal, says recreations are like tributes to legendary composers.?

"The 1970s' and 1980s' music was so legendary that our new generation is rediscovering it in their own way and recreating it. The current generation is dancing to those tunes and paying tribute to those legendary composers and singers,...

Sridevi in English Vinglish (2012)
Changing times for Bollywood’s women
Sridevi in English Vinglish (2012)
Some women are seeing more empowering roles in Bollywood in the past few years, but is this “a small wave or a tsunami in the years to come?,” asked the Film Bazaar Knowledge Series panel ‘Female Protagonists in Bollywood Today.’

“In the past two years something of a change seems to be occurring in terms of how women are getting portrayed in Indian cinema, in Bollywood specifically,” said moderator Namrata Joshi, National Cinema Editor from The Hindu, at today’s panel, pointing to films like English Vinglish, Queen and Piku.

Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra (Inkaar) said talking about the new ‘trend’ of women-centric films ignores Indian film history from the ’50s to ’80s-’90s, when women like Madhubala and Meena Kumari had as much star power as men.

But he added that new technologies are opening up film-makers to portray more interesting characters, male or female, although this isn’t always in the mainstream where bigger budgets are at...

Akaash Vani Takes On Race 2
Is the independent film directed by a fresh talent and featuring names that are not the marquee rulers here to stay? Judging by the curiously heightened appeal of this Friday’s release Akaash Vani, one would think that the small film with under-exposed faces has finally found its bearings towards the box office.

Some would say sophomore director Luv Ranjan has bitten off more than he could chew by pitching his love story Akaash Vani, starring two semi-newcomers, straight against this year’s first purported blockbuster Race 2.

The earlier plan was to release Akaash Vani on January 18 when Sudhir Mishra’s Inkaar was due. But when the core crew saw their end product,...

Arjun Rampal and Chitrangda Singh in Inkaar (2013)
Chitrangda dances to Sridevis Chaalbaaz track
Arjun Rampal and Chitrangda Singh in Inkaar (2013)
Like all of us, Chitrangda Singh is a Sridevi fan. No wonder Chitrangda was over the moon when last week she got to perform one of Sridevi's most beloved dance numbers 'Na Jaane Kahan See Aayi Hai' from the film Chaalbaaz with John Abraham in their film together I Me Aur Main. Chitrangda, basking in the rave reviews she has received for her performance in Inkaar, had to share the number with Prachi Desai. Not just that the entire song has been turned down from a female-gender perspective to a male one, to suit the leading man's stature. An indication of the male-domination that controls the film industry? Chitrangda laughs her throaty laughter and says, "I told John the revised avatar of the Sridevi song goes well with his character in I Me Aur Main. But seriously, all three of us John, Prachi and I had fun dancing to the number.

Well, literally!"Sudhir's narrative was quite straight forward and linear. He wanted the story of Arjun and Chitrangda to start at one point, go through a trans...

Inkaar Movie Review
By: Shalu Dhyani

Just when you think that Bollywood has finally grown up enough to tackle issues of sexual harassment at workplace, it gobsmacks you with an Inkaar – a film so inept and confused that I wonder what was director Sudhir Mishra’s intention in the first place.

Maya (Chitrangadha Singh), the National Creative Director of a successful advertising agency, accuses her boss Rahul (Arjun Rampal) of sexual harassment. Scared of the negative publicity it will get the agency, the head honchos decide to set up an internal inquiry into the matter. The committee consists of Maya and Rahul’s colleagues and is headed by a Ngo representative (Deepti Naval). As they talk to Maya and Rahul by turns, we get two different perspectives of the same story. Turns out that Maya was Rahul’s discovery and his protégé. A short affair was followed by a bitter break-up and Maya...

Dull start for Inkaar, Mumbai Mirror
The two major releases of the week, Sudhir Mishra's Inkaar and Viking Media and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.'s Mumbai Mirror, have failed to embark on a satisfactory start. Arjun Rampal and Chitrangda Singh in Inkaar (2013)
New Delhi, Jan 16: A film on sexual harassment at the workplace, another on corrupt dance bar owners and a story of the nexus between crime and politics - this week is dedicated to crime sagas and thrillers with "Inkaar", "Mumbai Mirror" and "Bandook" releasing Friday.

Sudhir Mishra wielded the megaphone to narrate the story of sexual harassment through his film "Inkaar", about an ambitious copywriter Maya, played by actress Chitrangada Singh, who works in one of the leading ad agencies and files a sexual harassment complaint against Rahul, CEO of the company, played by Arjun Rampal.

No explicit scenes in 'Inkaar'
Sudhir Mishra
New Delhi, Jan 16: Although Sudhir Mishra's "Inkaar" talks about sexual harrasement at the workplace and word 'sex' has been used 262 times in it, but reportedly the director has not used any explicit scenes to narrate his story.

The film is releasing Friday with U-a certificate, and the real content will revealed only then.

But if sources are to be believed, there was a kiss and few lovemaking scenes between the film's lead pair - Arjun Rampal and Chitrangada Singh - in the script, however, owing to Chitrangada's hesitation, changes were made in the script.
