    Not bad

I read the novel books when I was a child. Can't believe we have a tv series for it in 2023 (there is one already). So excited to watch it. Finished the first season today, not a masterpiece but I enjoyed watching it. The show reminded me of the childhood that I spent with the novel books. The novel books were so special because they made go crazy on horror movie/tv series/fictional stories. The show has been renewed for a second season so I can't wait to watch it. But I felt a bit disappointed because the cree members didn't do a great job on selecting for the additional cast members. The citizens, the townies and some other cast members that were not a big part of the show were bit odd as they didn't fit the reality. Hope this would be solved.

    entertaining but

In the event that there is a 2nd season, I hope they get rid of Isabella's character, what a disgusting character. Not only does she not regret harassing Allison on the internet, she does not apologize, she does continue insulting Allison even though Allison has not done anything to her bad.

    Goosebumps more.

    Season one review.

Slightly playing with my review standardisation here as, though Disney Plus has this as a single season show, with the follow up as a stand-alone season, the IMDB has them as seasons one and two of an anthology series. I quite enjoyed this, though I'd say that it peaked in the middle.

A group of high school students in a small town, in Washington State begin to experience strange and scary circumstances, when their new English Teacher, Mr Bratt (Justin Long) move to town. Bratt has inherited a house on the edges of town, that the students use for a party from time to time. The house holds many secrets, including one related the fiery death of a student, back in 1993, when the parents of the students, were their age.

I found the series to be a little confusing at first. The episodes focus at first on individual incidents that happen to each of the kids, each one I presume taken from a Goosebumps book. But you learn that though you're seeing them one at a time, the stories take place concurrently... until they all understand that something wrong is happening and they can start to piece it together. Here's were I though the show was at it's most impressive, utilising those aspects into one narrative. I thought the last couple of episodes fell away a bit, but not to the level I was disappointed.

I really liked the performances. Only Isa Briones I recognised from anything else, from the kids anyway. Obviously, I knew Justin Long. Rob Huebel is one of the adults involved and I did really like seeing "Weekend At Bernie's" Jonathan Silverman in a small role. It also looks good from a visual effects standpoint, there are a lot of CGI creatures and moments.

It's not the very best must see TV, but it never felt like a slog to get through.

    Predictable and disappointing

I felt the finale was extremely underwhelming. More time is spent focusing on a completely toxic relationship than the actual plot. Villain just gives away everything about himself without question and leaves the children unattended to plot how to stop him. The kid's all of a sudden are master magicians and can resurrect the dead and beat the villain in 10 seconds. Rather than tell a compelling story, the only thing that does any damage is a gun. The twist at the end is predictable and at the end of it we are left exactly where everything started without any consequences of what we just watched. I'm sure they may bring it back for a second season but I don't see why I would want to watch it when everything will be the same. None of the characters grew in any way or learn their lesson.

One additional thing, the guy playing Isaiah is a bad actor. He doesn't fluctuate between his emotions and the love triangle is the worst part of the show.
