Saw the movie in Lansing Michigan on 5-22-25. My wife and I enjoy the heck out of this movie. Lots of action, mild violence, some love scenes and assorted things. Northern Michigan is always beautiful and this movie showed why. CDI has another hit on their hands like Wild Faith and Mans Best Friend. Worth a look if it comes to your town. Was sorry to see we were the only two people in the theatre. DJ Perry did a fantastic job with the script adapting the story from the book. Don Most was also great in his part along with the others from CDI. Kudos to all involved. Been waiting a long time for the release of this movie.
This is a new take on a 1920's gangster movie, its set in rural Michigan near Detroit. Pacing was great and it felt like an action/crime movie with good character development. Acting was all over the board with a fairly large cast, but they found some great character actors to fill things in. The film is fairly gritty with a good bit of graphic violence.
It's definately worth watching for the Michigan lore, filmed in Alpena there are a lot of fall color back roads and deep Michigan forest, beautiful shots of Chris Craft boats cruising the St. Clair river.
Definately worht watching if you like 20's era gangster movies or love Michigan.

What a tremendous movie filmed locally in Alpena and Presque Isle, Michigan. This team created a great look into what happened back with the purples and the militia and the battle for the whiskey smuggling back during the Al Capone days. So many level of emotions pulled out from the actors. David Gries (the snitch) stole the show for me. His acting role was on par and better than the bookkeeper in the Untouchables with Sean Connery and Kevin Costner. Don Most played the evil Mr Bernstein superbly and Dean Teaster as Eddie Fletcher was as sinister as Most. Story line is great, a solid film produced by a great team here in Michigan. War is coming to Harsens Island.
Great movie... very entertaining and enjoyable. Loved the period costumes and props. The story line was very good and had a great flow...Lead actor was strong and did a wonderful job playing the lead. All together the acting was on point and unlike another post, I thought the music added a good flare and flavor to the feel of the movie. I was very impressed by all of the community support and involvement. We need more movies like this and we need to encourage more film and film makers locally. It takes a lot of work and dedication to be a creative in the film space. What this company has done is wonderful by sharing this amazing story... I will definitely watch it again.
I really enjoyed Harsens Island. From the opening scenes, the story pulled me in and kept me hooked all the way through. The acting felt authentic and full of heart, and the cinematography was just gorgeous-every shot looked like a painting.
Big credit to the team at CDI for putting together such a high-quality production. High praise to the director, the writing was sharp and meaningful, and the score added so much depth and emotion to the story.
This is one of those films that quietly stays with you. It's a well-crafted, moving piece of cinema that I highly recommend to anyone who appreciates strong storytelling and great filmmaking.
