This movie was based on a best-selling novel by Noah Gordon's "The Physician". The book was recorded in 1999 at the Book Fair in Madrid, in the list of the ten most popular books of all time.

In Brazil, the movie was wrongly titled "O Físico", which translates as "The Physicist", whereas the original titled is "The Physician", which in Portuguese means Doctor.
