Without a doubt, "Me Chama" is one of the most powerful sad ballads of all time and showcases singer/composer Lobão talents as a great lyricist presenting
the usual feelings of a lonely soul who longs for the presence or the contact of a loved one, crying his heart our just waiting for the loved one's call. It
was such an important song for the man that he actually became hugely famous afterwards, launching his career full speed in the second half of the 1980's. And
"Me Chama" received several covers from artists such as João Gilberto and Lobão's contemporary Marina and said before that particular song established Lobão as
one of the most influential artists of his period. But didn't get much of a thoughtufl and well-executed music video, which is kinda sad considering how
marvelous and poetic the song actually is.
So here he and his band mates (os Ronaldos) appear in a futuristic colorful room where Lobão drags himself on the floor and on some couch while
performing the song. The band mates are mere extras who appear here and there, walking around and not doing much. The pain reflected in the tormented singer
is expressed through his expressions and his potent voice that seems to echo a cry of despair ("Where are you? Call me!") while the guitar keeps on weeping
and keyboards eclipse everything around. But I think the video would benefit more with a more conceptual video, some little story, hire some actress to appear
as visions inside the man's mind. So I was only invested in it mostly because of the song, one of my favorite of all time. If you weren't a fan before, you're going to, despite the low quality of the video presented. 7/10.
