Vin Diesel’s Underrated 58% Rotten Tomatoes Sci-Fi Thriller Is a Streaming Hit in America
Image
When it comes to action franchises, Vin Diesel's name might be best associated with the Fast and Furious series of films. However, to some, there's another that is certainly underrated and perhaps even better: The Riddick films. The franchise began with Pitch Black at the turn of the century, then followed in 2004 with The Chronicles of Riddick, and eventually landed on 2013's simply-titled Riddick, although the next entry in the franchise, Riddick: Furya, is reported to be on its way.

It is the third of these movies that is proving popular today, despite being the worst received by audiences, according to review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. In spite of this fact, 2013's Riddick, which also stars the likes of Dave Bautista, The Boys star Karl Urban, is officially one of the ten most-streamed titles on Tubi in the US, as of July 7, 2025. This success comes in light of Diesel's recent...

‘How To Train Your Dragon’ Review: Live-Action Take Subtly Stretches The Original’s Wingspan – Annecy Film Festival
Image
Fifteen years and some change after Universal and DreamWorks launched the first of its three successful animated How to Train Your Dragon movies, their live-action remake, complete with CGI dragons, cruises along with a nice tailwind from 2010’s first adaptation of Cressida Cowell’s books, which earned an Oscar nomination for Animated Feature.

While certain details in specific scenes were modified and some dialogue subtly shifted to enhance the story, the new version follows the original plot’s three-act structure to a tee. While some might question going to see a movie that swaps in real people and follows the original story almost exactly beat for beat — give or take a cut scene or additional moment — there is comfort in knowing what to expect, while still seeing the relationships, emotions and overall human dynamics re-interpreted. An added line of humorous or genuine dialogue in big moments also helps the film feel less formulaic.

Netflix Releases List of Most Watched Movies and Series of Second Half of 2024
Image
Pictures: Netflix

For data nerds – it’s our favorite time of the year – the second half of 2024 viewing data has just been released! We’ve got a lot more to come, but what are the most-watched movies and series of the second half of the year? Let’s dive straight in.

What are the key points that Netflix has cited as being the most important for this data drop? Netflix reiterated that Engagement (time spent watching) is the best metric to gauge member satisfaction and that this data drop covers ~99% of all video watch time on Netflix and that no single title accounts for more than 1% of total Netflix viewing.

Squid Game S2 had the most hours viewed (0.7% of total viewing), and their total watch time for this period of July to December 2024 was 94B hours (5% increase YoY). Their most-viewed series was Squid Game S2 (87M views) despite premiering only 6 days before year-end.

The 34 Funniest Moments in Movies in 2024
Image
What films cracked you up in 2024? Or, more specifically, what moments in movies made you laugh the hardest? Sometimes, a film can be generally meh but contains a scene or a performance so funny that you can forgive its shortcomings. Likewise, a serious drama might include something so darkly hilarious that’s shockingly effective precisely because it’s completely unexpected. And, of course, there are the unfortunate unintentional laughs that can happen when a woefully inept movie falls flat on its face. Hey, we’ll take our laughs however we can.

Below, I’ve counted down the 34 funniest moments in movies this year. Maybe the films themselves weren’t amazing — although some of them certainly were — but they had something so clever or amusing that I never forgot it. Also, I left room for a few instances in which internet users enhanced a movie’s comedic impact by introducing a...

Netflix's 2024 Action Movie With 95% Rt Score Reclaims No. 1 Spot On Global Chart
Image
Rebel Ridge reclaims the number one spot on Netflix's global chart. Aaron Pierre leads the Rebel Ridge cast alongside Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, David Denman, Emory Cohen, Steve Zissis, Zsan Jh, Dana Lee, and James Cromwell.

Now, Netflix's new action film with a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score has reclaimed the number one spot on their global chart. Streaming Ratings: ‘Rings of Power’ Season 2 Opens Lower (But Still Big)
Image
The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power opened to big viewing numbers in the United States — just not as big as its first season.

The Prime Video series amassed 1.02 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Aug. 26-Sept. 1, good for first place among original series and second among all titles in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Season two premiered on Aug. 29 with three episodes, and Nielsen says about 70 percent of the show’s weekly total was for those three, with the remainder devoted to season one. (Viewing totals on the ratings service’s charts cover all episodes of a series.)

The 1.02 billion minutes is down about 19 percent from season one’s opening week (1.25 billion) in August 2022. The Rings of Power ranks third among Prime Video series U.S. opening weeks this year behind Fallout (2.9 billion minutes) and The Boys (1.19 billion...

Streaming Ratings: AMC Shows ‘Dark Winds,’ ‘A Discovery of Witches’ Get Netflix Boost
Image
AMC made a bet earlier this year that licensing a number of its shows to Netflix would help them find more viewers. That bet appears to have paid off.

Two AMC shows, Dark Winds and A Discovery of Witches, are among the top 10 streaming titles for the week of Aug. 19-25. They were added to Netflix at the beginning of that week as part of a deal struck in July to place about a dozen AMC shows on the service, complete with branding as the “AMC Collection.” (The shows will be available for 12 months.)

It’s not new territory for AMC, which partially credited Netflix for a huge spike in ratings for Breaking Bad’s final season and has also licensed The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul, among others, to the streamer in the past.

Dark Winds drew 929 million minutes of viewing for the week, good for fourth place overall.

Luminate Streaming Ratings: ‘Rings of Power’ Falls to No. 4 as ‘Perfect Couple’ Leads With 3.4 Billion Minutes Watched
Image
“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 suffered a major viewership drop in its second week on Luminate’s weekly streaming originals chart.

Last week, the Amazon Prime Video series managed to nab second place with 764.7 million minutes watched in the first full week of availability of its first three episodes combined with the first day of availability of its fourth episode. But during the Sept. 6-12 viewing window — which included the first full week of Episode 4 and the first day of Episode 5 — it only hit 372.7 million minutes watched, landing in fourth place. While there was less new content to watch compared to the week before, when the first three episodes has just debuted, it still doesn’t bode well for a large IP title to drop by more than 50% after one week, when word-of-mouth appeal should still be high. It should be noted that Luminate only measures U.

Demián Bichir Joins the Cast of ‘The Black Phone 2’
Image
Universal and Blumhouse will release The Black Phone 2 in theaters on October 17, 2025, and Deadline reports tonight that Demián Bichir (The Nun) has joined the cast.

Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will be writing and producing the upcoming sequel, with Derrickson directing. The first movie was based on Joe Hill’s short story.

Ethan Hawke will be back as The Grabber, with Mason Thames (How to Train Your Dragon, Incoming), Madeleine McGraw (Toy Story 4, Secrets of Sulphur Springs), Jeremy Davies (Justified) and Miguel Mora (The Black Phone) also set to return.

In the first film, Finney (Thames), a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer (Hawke) and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use.

When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they...

‘Rebel Ridge’ Puts Up Strong Debut Weekend On Netflix As ‘The Deliverance’ Gains Traction; ‘The Perfect Couple’ Thrills In TV
Image
It appears The Deliverance is picking up steam on Netflix, putting up 21.8M views from September 2 to 8, marking a significant increase from the week prior.

The film has taken a minute to break through with audiences since premiering on August 16, but after marching its way to third place in the last week of the month, it took the second place spot during this interval.

The top title of the week went to Rebel Ridge, which amassed 31.2M views. The thriller, which stars Aaron Pierre, dropped on Netflix on September 6, making this quite an impressive three-day debut. The film has the potential to put up an even bigger audience this week, as it’ll be its first full seven days of availability, which generally works in a title’s favor.

And, of course, The Perfect Couple also tallied its fair share of views on the TV side of things with 20.3M after launching on Thursday.

‘Industry’ Season 3 Soars Up the Streaming Top 10 | Chart
Image
Netflix has found the formula for audience attention amid the waning days of summer and back-to-school season, and it involves one part Halle Berry, one part Mark Wahlberg, and a lot of action.

The two Hollywood A-listers have given Netflix a major streaming hit, as their action comedy “The Union” is the most-watched program for the third consecutive week on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report.

“Industry” comes in behind “The Union” this week, as the buzzy HBO and Max series climbs the chart from No. 6 last week.

Netflix holds the next four spots on this week’s chart. “Worst Ex Ever,” the streamer’s latest true-crime docuseries, “dissects the dark side of love” and comes in third this week. No. 4 is “The Accident,” a Mexican drama series.

“The Deliverance,” at No. 5 , is a horror film with even more star power in it than “The Union.” Led by Oscar winner Mo’Nique,...

‘Incoming’ Takes Over Netflix As Streamer’s Most-Watched Weekly Title; ‘Worst Ex Ever’ Tops TV
Image
Netflix’s latest comedy film Incoming was at the top of its class in its first full week on the streamer, racking up 16.9M views. That’s up 71% from its debut weekend to make it the most-watched title of the week.

Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg’s The Union stuck around on the English-language film list for another week as well, this time coming in second place. Its 16.8M views put it neck-and-neck with first place, but it experienced a steep decrease in viewership compared to the week prior, when it tallied more than 40M views.

The Deliverance took a minute to catch audiences’ attention since premiering on August 16, but this week it finally broke through the noise with 14.5M views, which was good enough for third place.

No other films on Netflix could compete this week, with fourth place going to the Nigerian film Tòkunbò, which managed 5.3M views.

“Twisters” (Universal) wasn’t the biggest film of the summer. But it is becoming the comeback kid among the group, both theatrically and at home.

The tornado-focused special effects disaster film just had a very rare weekend in theaters. In its seventh weekend, losing 200 screens, its gross increased 17 percent. That comes in its third week at home on PVOD. And right at the same time, “Twisters” returned to #1 at iTunes, edging out the second weekend of “Inside Out 2” (Disney), 2024’s biggest hit.

The Pixar film retains its top spot at Fandango, with the advantage that its $24.99 rental cost gives it with that site listing by revenue earned, not transactions like iTunes does. In any event, the split decision this week continues a now multi-month trend of no film placing #1 at both for two consecutive weeks.

After a rare repeat at Netflix, where Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry’s...

Netflix's New Superbad-Esque Comedy Fixes The Worst Part Of A John Hughes Classic
Image
"The Mick" creators and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" writers Dave and John Chernin made their feature directorial debut with "Incoming," a coming-of-age sex comedy for Netflix about a group of incoming freshmen attending their first high school party. It's a raucous, raunchy, ridiculous night of debauchery featuring a 14-year-old running a control room of spy cams, plenty of upperclassmen making the beast with two backs in random open bedrooms, a science teacher desperately trying to appear cool by taking shots of Fireball and ripping bongs with students, fist fights leading to broken noses, accidentally falling into a K-hole, running from the cops, and drunkenly sharting out a night's worth of Taco Bell binge-eating.

"Incoming" is an attempt to merge the tradition of beloved high school stories with the over-the-top screwball sex comedies of the 1970s and '80s, and when it works, it really works. Similar to recent high...

Incoming's Dave & John Chernin Talk Making Their Directorial Debut & Directing Teenagers In R-Rated Comedy
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

Dave and John Chernin are taking audiences back to the time of R-rated teen comedies with Incoming. The sibling creative duo first kicked off their career as both writers and executive story editors on the long-running comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, having worked on 30 episodes of the hit show, ranging from "The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore" and "Mac and Dennis Buy a Timeshare", among others. They also went on to create the Fox sitcom, The Mick, which was led by Sunny star Kaitlin Olson and ran for two seasons.

With Incoming, the Chernins are making their feature directorial debut and telling the story of Benj, a high school freshman who, with his friends Eddie, Connor and Koosh, anxiously kick off their high school experience by going to a party thrown by Koosh's older brother. While there, Benj looks to...

Netflix's 2024 Comedy With 30% Rotten Tomatoes Score Becomes Global Hit
Image
Incoming has become a global Netflix hit. The new teen comedy is the feature debut of co-writers and co-directors Dave and John Chernin, following a group of four best friends who prepare for their first party in high school, which they believe is going to change their lives forever. The Incoming cast also includes Love, Victor's Isabella Ferreira, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Kaitlin Olson, and The Watcher's Bobby Cannavale. At the time of writing, the movie has earned a Rotten Tomatoes splat with a critic score of 30%.

Netflix has now calculated their global Top 10 chart of the most-watched English language movies for the week of August 19 through August 25, 2024. Incoming has landed at No. 2 with 9.9 million viewers amassing a total of 15 million hours viewed. This is enough to make it the most-watched debut movie in any language on the platform for the week, though it fell behind the...

Netflix's New Superbad Rip-Off Is A Great Reminder To Watch Seth Rogen's $111M Hit Comedy Movie From 5 Years Ago
Image
Incoming is a third-rate Superbad rip-off with no originality or charm. Good Boys is a much better version of what Incoming tries to achieve, with heart and humor. Good Boys came closer to Superbad's critical acclaim than Incoming, which was panned.

Incoming, Netflixs terrible middle-school version of Superbad, is a timely reminder to check out Seth Rogens awesome middle-school version of Superbad from 2019. Incoming is about four freshmen attending their first high school party and trying to get in with the cool kids. The film marks the feature-length directorial debut of brothers Dave and John Chernin, who cut their teeth as writers on Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. But Incoming is nowhere near as funny as a Superbad-esque teen comedy from two of the minds behind Its Always Sunny sounds.

It seemed as though Incoming had everything going for it: two writers from Its Always Sunny at the helm,...

One of 2024s Worst Comedies Is Still a Hit on the Netflix Charts
Image
Quick Links What Is Incoming About? Incoming's Pros & Cons Critical Response to Incoming

New to Netflix on August 23, 2024, Incoming has enjoyed great steaming success despite ranking as one of 2024's worst feature film comedies. The story concerns a quartet of first-year high school students overcoming great trepidation as they gear up to attend their first high school party. The derivative paint-by-numbers comedy by first-time filmmaking siblings Dave and John Chernin adds nothing new to the subgenre, calling to mind much funnier examples such as Porky's, American Pie, and Superbad.

Yet, despite earning a lowly 13% Rotten Tomatoes score, the sophomoric teen comedy has found a viewership groove on the streaming platform that continues to favor quantity over quality to accommodate the current binge-watching trend. Over the past weekend, Incoming ranked behind only The Union as Netflix's most-watched movie in the U.S., further magnifying Netflix's biggest existential question - at what...

Incoming Stars Talk R-Rated High School Comedy, Getting To Improv, Musical Number & How To Train Your Dragon
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

One party will make or break four highschoolers' freshman year in Incoming. The Netflix comedy primarily centers on Benj, Eddie, Connor and Koosh and one wild night for the group as Koosh's older brother hosts a first-week-of-school party, though only Benj is able to get in, which he takes as an opportunity to try and make a move on his sister's best friend, Bailey. Eddie and Connor, meanwhile, embark on their own journey as they steal the former's mom's boyfriend's car and get caught up in increasingly chaotic situations.

Incoming features a cast of young up-and-coming actors, with The Black Phone breakout Mason Thames starring as Benj, with Grey's Anatomy alum Bardia Seiri starring as Koosh and Disney Channel alums Ramon Reed (Just Roll With It) and Raphael Alejandro (Bunk'd) playing Eddie and Connor. The cast also features a number of well-established comedy stars,...

‘Inside Out 2’ Costs $24.99 to Watch at Home, Where It Went Straight to #1
Image
“Inside Out 2” (Disney), the biggest domestic movie since “Top Gun: Maverick” in 2022, finally arrived at home. Released in theaters June 10, it still ranked #10 at the box office last weekend — which is probably why it could debut with a $24.99 three-day rental and take first place at both iTunes (which ranks by transactions) and Fandango (ranking by revenue).

This week Netflix had three of its own original films among the top four, led by “The Union” starring Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry. The secret agent comedy-thriller is #1 for the second week, uncommon among Netflix Originals.

VOD charts also saw Neon’s low-budget sleeper success “Longlegs” place third at both sites. This came after six weeks of strong theatrical success, with $73 million so far.

Unusually, iTunes and Fandango shared the same top four films. “Twisters” (Universal), last week’s #1, is second at both, while “Despicable Me 4” (Universal) is fourth.

Incoming Cast & Character Guide
Image
Netflix's "Incoming" blends classic teen comedy with a fresh young cast but falls short in ratings due to writing critiques. Mason Thames, star of "Incoming," has exciting upcoming projects like "Monster Summer" and the live-action "How to Train Your Dragon" reboot. "Incoming" highlights youthful talent with praised performances, but faces mixed reviews despite its familiar teen comedy premise.

Incoming is the latest teen comedy to hit Netflix, mixing some recognizable veteran actors with its young, rising star cast. The film follows four freshmen as they plan for their first party in high school, mixing elements of classic teen comedies like Superbad with modern movie tropes. Many of the movie's faces should be relatively unfamiliar to most viewers, as the majority of the cast is composed of teenage actors. However, some of those actors, including the film's star, have exciting upcoming projects to keep tabs on.

Thames, who will portray Hiccup Haddock III, made the reveal to Screen Rant while promoting his Netflix comedy film, Incoming. ‘Superbad’ DVDs Sparked a Major Controversy in Hawaii
Image
It’s been 17 years since Superbad first hit theaters, and its influence can still be felt today, in movies like Netflix’s recent Incoming, Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart and also anytime you see a teenager foolishly trying to drink beer out of a laundry detergent container.

The movie was a huge hit in theaters, making over $170 million at the worldwide box office, to the joy of everyone except perhaps the real-life McLovin, who complained that his old high school friends, screenwriters Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, made his character “the butt of every joke.”

Naturally, the blockbuster comedy received a splashy DVD release that year, complete with special features and bonus collectibles that proved to be surprisingly controversial. That’s because the Walmart exclusive release of Superbad came with a replica of the iconic McLovin fake ID, obtained in the movie by the nerdy Fogell.

This became a big issue in Hawaii,...

Bullying, catcalling, body image issues, abuse, and validation are the kinds of subjects that are covered. A party unveils many things about people, and it is interesting to watch in which direction their arcs head.

Incoming Review: High Hopes but Half-Baked Landing
Image
High school antics hit the small screen once again in Incoming, the newest Netflix production from writer-director duo Dave and John Chernin. Dropped into our queues like an invitation to senior ditch day, this coming-of-age comedy wastes little time plunging viewers feet-first into the reckless rituals of freshman orientation.

Tagging familiar beats from the genre’s heyday, Incoming focuses its lens on the perilous pursuit of popularity among four newbies navigating the social jungle that is Jefferson High.

Chiefly concerned with claiming their place at the cafeteria round table before the final bell, Benji, Eddie, Connor, and Koosh place their hopes in a rager hosted by Jefferson’s lord of misrule himself. But with adolescence come awkward learning curves and embarrassing spills, as the boys will discover their first party is no exception to life’s lessons in failure and forgiveness.

Under the bravado and belching however lies a sweet sincerity,...

Netflix's New Teen Comedy Is The Closest We Will Come To A Superbad Sequel
Image
Netflix's "Incoming" is a modern take on teen comedy similar to "Superbad." The film follows a group of freshmen navigating chaos at their first high school party. "Incoming" may be the closest thing to a sequel to "Superbad" due to similar themes and premise.

Netflix has a long list of a variety of movies coming in 2024, and among them is Incoming, which will be the closest we will get to a sequel to Superbad. While many genres go through good runs and not-so-good ones, the branch of teen comedies is one that tends to keep its relevance and popularity despite many failures. Netflix has its own catalog of teen comedies, both licensed and original, and joining the latter is Incoming, written and directed by Dave and John Chernin in their feature-length directorial debut.

Incoming follows friends Benjamin (Mason Thames), Connor (Raphael Alejandro), Eddie (Ramon Reed), and Koosh (Bardia Seiri...
