Eu Só Queria Ter Você

A relation more than complicated by bisexuality of one of partners, his moral convictions and the fears about his health problems.

In same measure, the situation is less easy for the selfishness of the other partner who , for be sure about his boylover, makes a huge, dirty mistake.

Not a great short film, off course, but interesting for the themes and their decent exploration. And for the construction of story , the twist defining more than fair each character.

A film about love and acceptance.

Not impressive but fair crafted.

And, sure, the message is, in essence, the most significant one in this case.

In "Eu Só Queria Ter Você" ("I Just Wanted You") we follow the modern dilema some couples face during a relationship when they know they want to be in love together with just their partner but there's always something on the way (and with that I mean a third party).

Gabriel (Patrick Fornarni) is deeply in love with Luiz (writer/director Daniel Manhães) who also likes the man, they have many great things in common in between sex and emotions but it also happens that Luiz isn't much resolute with himself since he also has a girlfriend of whom he likes - and there's the questioning that he doesn't identify himself as a gay man which saddens his partner. After a great night in bed they decide to explore their conflicts and one will demand from the other a positioning about their relationsihp status. In between talks, dramatic revelations will force them to see the truth in each other. It's always about twists and turns that never help them in anyway.

Manhães has a small but interesting set of short films that deal with many situations faced by gay men out there when it comes to deal with themselves, their stable partner and someone else as well. I've seen a couple of those films (of which he also stars and he's a very hot man to make things much more interesting) and he always brings some reality in the situations presented. In this one, although there's plenty of reality mixed with cinematic conventions that audiences love to see, I just thought the acting was a little cringe to watch (the crying bits) and that kind of thing didn't happen in "Porta Fechada" or "Mesa Pronta" for example. But he hits the right notes when presenting the couple's dynamics, their conversations and intimate moments in bed - which makes of this one of his most daring movies.

I liked this very much and I'm looking forward to see more of Manhães other movies. The four I've seen were all good (this one is the only that isn't part of a trilogy, where there's another threesome involved dealing with themes such as cheating, jealousy, suspicion among other things). 9/10.
