This has been a wonderful adaptation.

Stella has been discovered hanged in The Church, but was it suicide or murder? Brenda is suspected, Why on Earth did Lorrimer leave her such a lump sum of money, albeit for her education.

As I previously stated, this is my favourite PD James novel, and I am so pleased to say that channel 5 have really done justice to this terrific book.

I did worry that being just two episodes long, that they could easily have missed out chunks, and if you're aware of the story, you will see a couple of areas that could perhaps have been developed. I definitely think they could and should have spread this over three episodes, but they just about nailed it, what really does work so well, the pacing.

It's visually perfect, from the floral wallpapers, to the candlewick bedspreads and hanging plants, someone went to great lengths to make this look as good as it did.

Margaret Clunie was excellent as Domenica, she got the character spot on, and she looked sensational, exactly as I pictured her from the book. Sam Hoare, Deborah Findlay and Richard Harrington were excellent, as were the whole cast.

If you haven't read the book, please do, I know it's a few years old, but it is such a rich story, it's worth your time.

I am genuinely excited for the rest of the series, this was quite something.

    9/10.

The weakest story so far. But, still excellent.

I figured the abrasive disposition of Dr. Lorrimer would be a clue to the story's mystery being unraveled by DCI Adam Dalgliesh (Bertie Carvel). Oddly, no closing or IMDb credit to Dr Lorrimer.

This was more of a plodding story than edge of your seat tension like the prevous stories. Dalgliesh still grieving is woven flawlessly into the twists and turns. Again, the casting was impeccable highlighted by stunning redhead Carolina Main as Angela Foley, and Deborah Findlay as trouble making nanny Miss Willard.

There was a hint of romance brewing between Dalgliesh and Carlyss Peer as DS Kate Miskin which I don't see actually happening.

Death of an Expert Witness - Part 2

The second episode opens with Stella Mawson found hanging in what could be a staged suicide in the chapel behind Hoggatt's forensic laboratory.

The chapel is also the place where Domenica met Dr Lorrimer for sex. The hymn board used to arrange the date and time for their meet ups.

Both Dalgliesh and Miskin visit various suspects such as DI Doyle and Dr Rollinson.

It might just be good old fashioned jealousy could had been a motive for the murder.

The concluding episode was nicely paced and suitably moody. The period costume and set decoration added a lot to the atmosphere.

Although faithful to the novel, I did find the reveal a tad underwhelming. I did wonder if it could had done with a Sara Phelps type modernisation.
