The film was originally conceived as a website attraction for Joe Dante's Trailers from Hell (2007), for which filmmaker Daniel Kremer is a "guru." It soon took on a life of its own, mushroomed to feature length, and was packaged for theatrical exhibition.
The footage of Daniel Kremer at age 12 in this film, is from Sundance-winning documentary filmmaker Peter Nicks's Danny and the Scatman (1999). The sequence of Kremer watching Zabriskie Point (1970) at that young age is deleted material never used in Nicks's final cut. Kremer went back into Nicks's archives to digitize that footage for use in this film.
