Summaries

  • Patrice Horton, 40s, singer and entrepreneur, has been trying to pick up the pieces and move on after her divorce was finalized in 2012. Battling depression, she decided to finally rededicate her life to Christ. It was during that period of taking new membership classes and doing the exercises in the Beginners Step book where she learned important lessons while she was soul searching. One morning, she made it a priority to go to the gym and live a healthier lifestyle. While exercising, she would listen to The Anointed Pace Sisters Pandora Station. The playlist before the 1st commercial break motivated her to keep moving forward. After reflecting on each song, with each day seeming like a specific theme, she finally started LIVING for herself. In doing so, she was happy with who she was and being single, because she was now, "eating at a table for 1," in reference to Dr. Hilliard's sermon at a Women's Conference. 2 years later, she met Christopher Conwell, 30s, a single father of 3 children, eldest Christyn and a set of twins Christa and CJ who worked two jobs, his dad's barbershop by day and Hobby Lobby at night. He and his children also lived with his parents as he's saving money. After 6 months of dating, he pops the big question and Patrice happily accepts it. However, as the wedding planning progresses, she decides to try and bake an old recipe she found in one of her journals as a teen, "My King's Cake."—Davida J. Campbell
