Amazing!

If you are a South Park fan, there is no way you won't love this game.

Even though it was constantly delayed and was released way too late, it was worth the wait. For starters, the game is hilarious. It uses the same humor as the TV show, and had me laughing throughout the entire story.

The storyline was well thought out and very fun to play. The graphics are the exact same as the TV show, so it feels like you are actually in a TV episode.

I absolutely love this game, and would recommend it to all South Park fans.

Classic South Park

South Park: TSOT was my obsession for 2 days straight. The humor begins almost instantly. Think of it as a mix between South Park and Pokemon during the action sequences. You basically will run into the 'enemy' i.e. other fourth graders and when you do it puts you in an organized fighting sequence. This is similar to Pokemon where you find an enemy and then take turns taking swings at each other. That is what you do as far as fighting goes. To be completely honest, it sometimes can get annoying to continually get in these but it is your only means of XP. There will be times where you can utilize the environment to kill or K.O. enemies w/o getting into battle. But the fighting will be funny and cool at first, but it sort of gets stale by the end.

The open world is fairly condense, yet sometimes confusing so be sure to use your map often. What I like about this game and is that it isn't a dull and mindless game. You WILL have to think about obstacles and how to get by them. They are not impossible, but remember if you cannot figure out how to get to something in the outside world, you probably just haven't gotten far enough into the game; be patient! If you do not enjoy stupid humor this game will be mind-numbing to you (i.e. farting, unnecessary sexual content, etc...). I must say that there are some parts that are very 'over the top' to the point that even I was saying, "really? how did they get away with this?" or "really? I seriously have to do this?"... I won't give away anything but there are some really messed up things in the game but... it's South Park so I should've known better. Just be aware that it can get kind of nasty.

All-in-all I would give this game a 9/10 because it really was an enjoyment. If you are a South Park fan this game will definitely be right down your alley. As you rank up, you get new materials, new weapons, and new 'abilities.' These abilities can get confusing since there are so many, and there will be many points in the game where you have to utilize all of them at some point. I think there are too many to be honest, but it may just be because I would use the wrong ability for the wrong circumstance and I got frustrated. If you are an achievement/trophy collector, you most likely will have to do two full-game runthroughs so just be aware. Enjoy!

The Greatest RPG of All Time

Epic Adventure

I'm a fan of the TV show "South Park" it's one of my favorite TV shows of all time, this game was just a dream come true. Not only is it one of the best licensed games but it's to me one of those fresh examples showing you can still do more with the RPG genre which is part of what makes the game one of my personal favorite RPG's and video games of all time because this game not just captured the spirit of the TV show perfectly to a tee but most importantly the game is actually fun.

The graphics are great as it's basically just the regular animation like in the original TV show. The game play is great as it pretty much the typical standard mechanics and elements of turn based action as well as any RPG, which isn't anything new but it's everything done right. But to me what really made the game stand out is really in it's story line, humor, and execution which makes the game strong.

This game just like the TV show is just hilarious, the dialog and visual jokes are just great. It's sort of the main reason why I played the game which is the same reason I watch the show for the laughs. There really aren't that many RPG's I can think of with humorous elements except for "Maniac Mancion" and the underrated NES game "Nightshade". OK, those are more point and click games but they had RPG elements which sorta count. But anyway I just loved hearing the dialog along with the actual voice actors from the show just say the lines, they are just deliciously crude and absurd.

I really love how the game parodies and homages certain clichés and elements in the RPG genre. One favorite scene of mine is when you go to Canada and it's an 8 bit over world which is awesome and hilarious as it's an homage to "Final Fantasy" and the "Dragon Warrior" games on the NES.

Or even part of the story line in a way is an homage to the SNES game "Earthbound" just like in that game you have to deal with aliens in your hometown and the protagonists are kids. And like in that game you have a few non cliché weapons and methods. For weapons you have a medical crutch, vibrator, basketball, dodge ball, and any other everyday items along the way. You have an ability option which is the branch for the super moves which are great like putting on a football helmet and charging at ramming speed toward an opponent. And of course farting is the magic powers, yeah I'm not kidding who'd of ever though farting could actually be a tool of great use.

I really loved having some of the essential characters act as party members. Each of them are uniquely playable and have strengths and weaknesses. I love using Stan since he's one of the strongest and he gets to weld the atlantian sword from the film "Conan the Barbarian". However I also loved playing as Butters, the highlight of him is becoming Professor Chaos which is just awesome and with him he just has a vast number of powers that provide strong offense and defense depending on when and where you stop the roulette wheel.

However what I also love about the story line is in a way it's somewhat of a love letter to both the RPG and fantasy genre. It's simply about kids playing pretend fantasy to the extreme level literally. But that's what most RPG games really are their really games where you use your imagination; someone reads off on a book on what's happening, you make your moves, roll the dies and imagine the outcome. This game really captures that essence really well, I actually found myself engrossed in the fantasy adventure they were creating and almost wished this was a game that could go on forever, which to me is part of what a good RPG is.

This game is an epic, well sort of.

The definitive South Park experience

I'm not sure if I'm the only one that feels like South Park has been stretched way past its limit or maybe I'm just getting old, but I haven't seen a truly funny episode in a very long time. Along comes SOT and makes up for all that. It's hilarious, ballsy and shameless. Perhaps the greatest achievement is that it hardly ever feels like a video game and certainly doesn't look like one. The turn-based battles are a nice throwback to older rpg games while simultaneously feeling fresh and funny (especially when "Princess" Kenny is involved). If you're a South Park fan and have been watching since the start, you absolutely should not miss this experience. My only complaint is the short length. 8 hours is pretty much the extent of it, but besides that, big love to Trey and Matt for giving us the South Park game we deserve. It's about time.

Short but funny!

First off, I am highly surprised you can look up video games on this website since I have just now discovered this since I am still fairly new to IMDb (as an actual user).

Now for the actual review.

Well, what can I say? 'South Park' is and has always been one of my absolute favorite things on this planet. I have enjoyed some of the games in my life (most being flash games), and the N64 game was lots of fun to me, but this one probably tops it all.

The very best parts about this title are the following: references to the show, solid graphics while not lagging at all, funny and witty jokes everywhere, etc. Simply put: South Park. In case you have seen the entire show (or lots of it for this matter), you will get all the references, places, etc. If you have /not/ seen too much of it, you will still consider most of it funny because, well, it is 'South Park' after all!

Story-wise, this game is pretty good as well since it makes sense for the most part and the side-missions (which I did along with playing through the storyline at the very same time, btw.) are pretty fun, too. Though, I have to complain about a few things. This game is /far/ too short: It took me approximately 14 hours to get done with the story and all of its side-missions, which is not even roughly enough. Plus, once you have played through the game, there is nothing left you can do. That is the only reason I 'only' gave it 9/10 stars because the rest is, as stated above, very pleasant.

All in all, I can only recommend playing through the entire game, for it is highly enjoyable!

A Genius Licensed Roleplaying Game

Who knew we would ever see some licensed games that can turn out this great. South Park: The Stick of Truth is probably one of the best licensed games in a while at the time. This is the kind of game that combines fantasy with a series of raunchiness, and I can guarantee that this is an awesome way. This would have genius premise that lives up to the creativity of playing wizards both on the main story and on side missions, really hilarious jokes that's traditional to the show, neat graphics from television for a Roleplaying game, and top notch gameplay that makes it exciting from the events that would happen in the main story. I will say that this game is not for everyone since I know there are people that are offended from what the game would contain considering this is a South Park game. For anyone that isn't offended and understand the show, I highly recommend playing this one. Not only does this game succeed as a Roleplaying game, but also as to present what the show is about. This is one pretend game I would participate in again.

The single most faithful video game adaptation I've ever played

*SERIOUS BLOODY CONTENT WARNING FOR THIS GAME* I mean, if you know anything about South Park, that's an unnecessary warning, but still, if you're offended by or just don't find the show's signature brand of humour very funny, this game won't do anything to change your mind, so don't even bother. That's because from top to bottom, beginning to end, this game IS the show. They're completely indistinguishable, the animation is the same, the voice actors are all reprising their roles, and it's easily the best thing about this game. The story too, feels exactly like a 10-15 hour long episode of the show, in a good way, with a lot of nonsensical and hilarious twists and turns that really puts the make-believe fantasy war between the kids into perspective. However, I did feel some moments in the story dragged on a bit, and towards the middle of the game, you'll be expected to make a choice that you'd think would drastically affect the rest of the story somehow, but it affects a grand total of absolutely nothing. Bit of a letdown. On PS3, the game does like to stutter a fair bit, but it is mostly made up for by the amazing world of the town, how detailed it is, and how packed to the brim with easter eggs and hilarious items it is. It's so rare to see a straight up comedy game these days, that it's a joy to see one that took any opportunity it could to throw a joke in somewhere, whether that be in the inventory screen, NPC dialogue, or during combat. Speaking of combat though, that feels like the most seriously lacking area of the game. I played the game on the hardest difficulty and it was still an absolute breeze, and overall it's a very shallow RPG, where 9 times out of 10, the best strategy will always be to simply equip the highest level items in your inventory and spam magic attacks, while being able to refill your health or magic before attacking if necessary. For a while, that's fine, and the animations of the special attacks for each character are funny and imaginative, but after seeing them for 10 hours straight, and mostly using the same strategies over and over again, it does end up feeling a little tedious by the end. Still, if you're a fan of the show, you'll undoubtedly find a lot of enjoyment in this, and if you're not someone who already knows they don't like the show, but haven't had much experience with it, give it a go anyway, it's a charming, gross, satirical, outrageous good time.

Best South Park game yet does not make it a great game.

South Park games in general have been pretty awful over the years.

From the terrible FPS South Park on the N64 to horrendous Chef's Luv Shack and South Park Rally. Even the newer games like South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play! and Tenorman's Revenge with there mediocrity game-play hardly stood out.

Then onto The Stick Of Truth.

The good...

This really, really, really looks and feels like South Park. The animation is there, the tone is there the original voices are there. This is the most accurate South Park game made to date. The presentation is spot on and you do feel like you are interacting with the TV show.

You can tell time and effort has been put into this to make it look and feel like the TV show.

The Bad...

They seem to have forgotten this is a game as the game-play is so trite and stale this plays like a game from the early late 90's. Many of the game-play mechanics are so archaic they would have been outdated 15+ years ago. From not being able to sell stacked items as a stack and having to go though each individual item separately....tiresome. To tired old fighting mechanics that RPGs from the late 90's learned just do not work.

This is an RPG first and foremost...and RPG with only about 8 hours of game-play as the story is so short and the side quests even shorter. Plus it only has a level 15 cap, which you will hit WAY before you even get close to finishing the game, leaving you with very little to do in terms of ROLE PLAYING in this ROLE PLAYING GAME. This is an insult to RPG gamers. This game did not "need" to be an RPG and would have suited a simple button mashing beat em' up...which it essentially is as most of the battles you have do resort to simple button mashing. There really are little to no RPG elements in this supposed RPG game.

The map you can explore is only done so on a faux 3D plane, meaning you are really playing within a 2D environment...which does make sense given the show it is based on. But this also means the map itself is not very explorable with very few places to access. It's just not a big enough map for an RPG to be set in and does become very tiresome when you are back tracking over the same locales over and over and over with nothing to do to keep the exploring fresh.

The difficulty setting in this game is unbelievably easy, even on the hardest setting. There is no challenge to this game at all, so much so it may as well have just been an episode of the show you could just sit and watch.

Overall, it's a very dull and uninspired game...South Park or not. This should have been an arcade style game downloadable from XBLA or PSN, etc as that is what it feels like. It's most definitely not worth the full retail price being asked.

For a South Park game, it's full of references and jokes you can relive if you are a fan of the show...or you could just watch the show. For an RPG game, it's just so flat it's not really worth looking into as there are FAR better RPGs out there and cheaper.

What Pokes The Stick Of Truth

I never heard of or watched South Park in my entire life because it was never shown on my TV channels as a kid until I discovered this game.

South Park Stick Of Truth is the most derogatory but still a great game to play. South Park may be South Park by its nature and I am not much of a fan of South Park but there are pros and cons that I can say about this game.

The character creation is very simple and very good for making my South Park protagonist. The combat is absolutely amazing it is both turn-based and interacting moves to know how effective it is, The comedy is really good even though there are offensive parts and the animation in the game plays absolutely just like South Park like I am playing a video game while watching TV.

While there are some very offensive parts like Cartman's faction name which good thing I am from the Philippines. Ally summon assists felt very useless because they won't let me use them in boss battles and collection spots like Chinpokomon will always be permanently locked when going to different locations. And a very rude forced name

If you are a true South Park fan game then this is one of the great games in the South Park franchise.

Just finished this game and it is amazing. I personally think it is better than the other one but they are both still great. I will admit there are some hard parts but you will pass them.

The birth of South Park RPGs

10 out of 10 A hilarious, bold, and shockingly well-crafted RPG that nailed the feeling of stepping into an actual episode of South Park - and somehow made it all work.

The Premise:

You play as "The New Kid" who's just moved into town, thrown headfirst into a full-on fantasy war between humans and elves... led, of course, by Cartman and Kyle. What starts as kids playing make-believe quickly escalates into something far more chaotic, dangerous, and deeply inappropriate - in true South Park fashion.

The "Stick of Truth" - a simple twig - is the most powerful item in the universe, and everyone wants it. From alien abductions to Nazi zombies to undercover government conspiracies and censored scenes that were so wild they caused regional bans - this game doesn't hold back.

The Gameplay:

Classic turn-based RPG mechanics, but built with simplicity and South Park's irreverence. You pick a class (fighter, mage, thief, or... jew), gear up, and join the madness. Spells are fart-based, summons include Jesus and Mr. Slave, and your weapons range from garden tools to sex toys.

Combat is smooth and surprisingly strategic - timed button presses, debuffs, elemental damage - all layered under laugh-out-loud insanity.

The World:

It's one massive South Park episode, and you're in it. You walk through the whole town: from school to City Wok to the seedy underbelly of an alien spaceship. Every home, every character, every detail is packed with jokes and references for long-time fans.

Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny - all playable allies. Al Gore, ManBearPig, Mr. Hankey, and the goth kids all show up. It's fan service done flawlessly.

Writing and Humor:

Trey Parker and Matt Stone wrote every line, and it shows. The game is absurd, offensive, and perfectly tuned to the show's voice. Every quest is laced with satire, dark humor, and moments where you'll either laugh uncontrollably or wonder how this ever got approved.

Final Verdict:

The Stick of Truth isn't just a funny game - it's a genuinely great RPG. Short enough to not overstay its welcome, but packed with memorable moments and outrageous twists. It's one of the rare licensed games that doesn't just do the source justice - it elevates it.

A 10 out of 10. The definition of controlled chaos.

A great game let down by building boredom

The Stick of Truth is so good in many ways, but is ultimately bogged down by very repetitive gameplay and logs spells between excitement. I hate to complain about a game so imaginative and cute, but it did become a issue with me the more and more I played through it.

You play as a new kid in town, customizable to your discretion, who makes friends with the South Park gang and becomes involved in their fantasy role-playing games when the precious Stick of Truth is stolen from Cartman. A terrifying plot involving aliens, anal probes, zombie Nazis, abortion clinics, and ManBearPig himself, plus many side-quests make up the lengthy adventure which is a hilarious parody of fantasy RPGs, while being a decent RPG in its own right at the same time (but also retaining many of the flaws of the genre).

The voice acting by Trey Parker and Matt Stone is, as expected, brilliant, as well as their cute animation style, and their humor which alternates between satirical and grotesque permeates ever scene. You really will feel like you are controlling an actual episode of South Park. Nods to 16-bit RPGs during the Canada scenes will appeal to older gamers too.

The downside is that there is not enough variation during the short campaign in regards to weapons, armor, and power-ups. The battles eventually become redundant as the XP levels are capped at level 15. Many of the trophies will require multiple play-throughs, and some are even locked-out once the main campaign is over. Bad choices there from the developers.

It's worth playing through once, and will appeal to all fans of the show, but boredom will set in at around the halfway mark and you'll probably be somewhat disappointed with it.

As a fan of the show, I regret playing this game

I'm not sure why this game was made. Every major joke is just a retelling of the biggest jokes from the show, but in a longer drawn-out format, broken up by combat and running around a map. There were 11 major arcs and it took me 22 hours to get 100%, so that's like dragging each 20 minute TV episode out to 2 hours long... The game might be intended for people who didn't watch the show and only wanted to see the highlights, but finding a list on Google of the best South Park episodes to watch would be more enjoyable and take less time than playing this game. The game does have original jokes, some of which made me laugh out loud, but they are too sparse to make playing the game worth it.

The gameplay itself is fine. It's essentially a ripoff of Paper Mario, which works well for South Park's art style. Achievement hunters will be VERY annoyed as there are dozens if not hundreds of missable collectibles, so you will need to heavily rely on a walkthrough guide if you want to complete the game in a single playthrough (and trust me, you won't want to play it more than once).
