Deepika Padukone was given the first choice of playing Meera or Veronica. She chose the latter because Meera's character was similar to her earlier character Meera in Love Aaj Kal. Later Diana Penty got Meera's role. Interestingly, earlier in their modeling career, Diana had replaced Deepika as Maybelline's brand ambassador.
The film's first official trailer got phenomenal response as its YouTube link got more than 1 million hits in just 3 days.
The apartment scenes shown in 'Daaru Desi' were shot with green screen in background of the apartment set. The city landscape is added digitally in both the scenes when Deepika dances sitting on balcony and Saif is twisting Diana's nose.
Fans were upset when Honey Singh song Agrezi Beat was not included in the soundtrack. The song had been used in the trailer making people think it was to be used for the soundtrack and film. This did not happen causing many fans to feel cheated. Kareena Kapoor had heard the song and loved it. She requested Saif to use it for the trailer.
Imran Khan and Ranbir Kapoor were offered the film but did not like the script.
