Meet the Man Betting Big on Fremantle’s Scripted Strategy
Image
Thomas Rabe was born in tiny Luxembourg, the mini-nation squeezed in between France, Germany and Belgium. But when it comes to business, as CEO of pan-European broadcast giant Rtl Group and chairman and CEO of Rtl’s parent, global media conglomerate Bertelsmann, Rabe likes to think big.

At an Rtl shareholders’ meeting back in August 2021, Rabe dropped a bombshell: Fremantle, Rtl’s production division, making of entertainment formats like X Factor and American Idol and already one of the biggest independent TV producers in the world, was about to get a lot bigger. In four years, Rabe said, Fremantle would boost revenue by a cool $1.1 billion (€1 billion) to hit a new revenue target of $3.3 billion (€3 billion) by 2025.

Rtl gave Fremantle the cash to pump into M&a expansion, fueling a buying spree that has seen the company spend more than a quarter of a billion dollars in the past three years snatching up independent companies,...

Hulu New Releases: August 2023
Image
We might be entering the dog days of summer but Hulu isn’t slowing down. The streamer’s list of new releases for August 2023 is a pretty impressive collection of content.

The biggest Hulu original this month is season 3 of true crime comedy Only Murders in the Building on Aug. 8. This time around Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are joining the already-stacked cast that features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. This season’s central murder appears to take place at a theater (outside the building) but I think we’ll let it slide.

That’s far from the only worthwhile original in August as Aug. 2 sees the premiere of the third and final season of superb comedy Reservation Dogs. That will be followed by South Korean sci-fi series Moving on Aug. 9, Solar Opposites season 4 on Aug. 14, and A Murder at the End of the World on Aug. 29. Of course,...

Some of these networks have robust channel offerings on their respective apps, while others have mostly channels that can be accessed with TV Everywhere credentials, keeping the free ad-supported TV (Fast) channels they own on separate apps.

America’s National Parks season 2 is here with lengthy looks into a new selection of the country's most beautiful protected parks. Season 1 of the National Geographic series was released last year and transported viewers to the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Big Bend, Badlands, and Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Parks. America’s National Parks season 2 explores locations that may be lesser known but just as beautiful, including California’s Channel Islands and Florida’s Biscayne.

In addition to exploring the beautiful landscapes of America’s natural wonders, America’s National Parks shines a light on the flora and fauna that thrive within park bounds. Season 2 presents the unique animals of the Channel Islands and the brown bears of Lake Clark, as well as species that migrate to and from national parks during the year. Screen Rant is excited to exclusively premiere a clip from the first episode of the season about one such...
